Dodgers | Yasiel Puig more mature?

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:49:03 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig appears to be more mature and grown up this spring. There hasn't been any drama surrounding him at camp this season, and his bat flips are even less audacious. Los Angeles has a more veteran locker room to help Puig along, too. "I think it's just part of his maturity as a player. Last year was his first full season in the big leagues, and he's still very young (24). All we look for is him to get a little better every year," manager Don Mattingly said.

Fantasy Tip: In his second full MLB season, Puig ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) could easily return first-round fantasy value if he stays healthy. A more mature approach to his game could go a long way in a talented L.A. lineup. Puig should be considered on a daily basis at FantasyScore.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig off to slow start

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 13:48:06 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is off to a slow start at the plate in spring training, but manager Don Mattingly isn't worried. Puig is hitting just .174 (4-for-23) with two walks and four strikeouts in nine spring contests after hitting .296/.382/.480 with 16 home runs and 69 RBI in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: As a fantasy owner, you shouldn't be very worried at all about Puig's spring results, either. Puig's high fantasy floor should make him a staple in the very early rounds of drafts.

Sat, 14 Mar 2015 14:12:20 -0700

Dodgers | Andre Ethier demands to start

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 11:17:42 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier said he prefers to be traded if he doesn't have a starting outfield job this year. The team's current plans have OF Carl Crawford in left, rookie OF Joc Pederson in center and OF Yasiel Puig in right field, with Ethier as the fourth outfielder. Ethier hit .249 with four home runs and a .691 OPS in 331 at-bats last year, and his production has declined since 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Pederson isn't guaranteed the starting center field job, he'll have to earn it in camp by beating out Ethier. Regardless, Pederson is an up-and-coming prospect that will be taken in the middle rounds of mixed-league drafts, while Ethier is an afterthought. If Ethier is dealt before the start of the season, he could find some value as outfield depth if he lands in the right situation.

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 05:51:18 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp sought out OF Yasiel Puig and exchanged words with him in the dugout Monday, Sept. 15. Kemp may have been angry that Puig didn't go first-to-third on a single to right field by 1B Adrian Gonzalez. It sounded like it wasn't the first time the Dodgers' tempers have flared at one another. Several sources have described the clubhouse atmosphere as "dysfunctional."
