Diamondbacks | Socrates Brito sent to the minors

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:22:23 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Socrates Brito was optioned to Class AAA Reno Monday, April 18. In a corresponding move, RP Tyler Wagner was recalled from Reno.

Fantasy Tip: Brito had a chance to grab an extended run with Arizona but went 7-for-31 with eight strikeouts and no walks. He can be dropped in all leagues. Wagner has struggled through his first two starts with Reno (five earned runs through 8 2/3 innings), and is nothing more than a desperation add in all fantasy formats.

Diamondbacks | Tyler Wagner so-so in relief

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 22:20:56 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Wagner made a relief appearance in the Cactus League spring game Wednesday, March 9, against the San Diego Padres. He allowed one run over three innings with three hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Wagner is in the mix for the No. 5 job in Arizona, but he'll need to tighten up a bit. If he is able to secure a spot in the rotation his fantasy appeal would be limited to deeper NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | ARI has battle for two rotation spots

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 17:41:03 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SPs Rubby De La Rosa and Robbie Ray are believed to be the favorites to win the fourth and fifth spots in the team's starting rotation behind SPs Zack Greinke, Shelby Miller and Patrick Corbin, based on how they performed in 2015. SPs Archie Bradley, Zack Godley and Tyler Wagner are also believed to be involved in the competition.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa led all Arizona starters in victories (14) and games started (32) but posted a 4.67 ERA and served up 32 home runs over 188 2/3 innings in 2015. Ray went 5-12 but posted a respectable 3.52 ERA in 23 starts, along with 119 strikeouts in 127 2/3 innings. Both hurlers could be available in the later middle rounds of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, although fantasy owners should monitor the competition throughout spring training to make sure that they crack the rotation.

Diamondbacks | Jean Segura headed to desert

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 15:52:50 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks, along with P Tyler Wagner, in exchange for SP Chase Anderson, 2B Aaron Hill, SS Isan Diaz and cash Saturday, Jan. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Segura's value increases a bit with the jet stream in Arizona's gaps. He had a .257-6-50 line with 25 steals last season, and he could return to double digits in homers.

Brewers | Tyler Wagner shows promise

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 20:45:26 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner allowed one run on seven hits over six innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: After two rough starts to begin his career, Wagner ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was a tough luck loser Saturday. It remains to be seen if he will be in the mix for a rotation spot to start 2016, and even if he is, he doesn't need to be drafted in fantasy leagues.

Brewers | Tyler Wagner starting vs. Cards Saturday

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:52:10 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner will start against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: It will be just the second career start for Wagner, and he checks out as nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats, including at FantasyScore. The 24-year-old righty has pitched well for Class AA Biloxi with a 2.25 ERA and 7.1 K/9 through 25 starts, but the Cardinals stand as a daunting matchup for the rookie.

Brewers | Tyler Wagner will debut Sunday

Fri, 29 May 2015 14:44:34 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner will make his major league debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Wagner should be viewed as a desperation source of cap relief in daily contests and an ill-advised start in seasonal formats. He has performed well at Class AA Biloxi and sports a 5-1 record, a 2.01 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a 6.4 K/9. However, going from Class AA to the majors is a significant leap.

Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner will be recalled to start Sunday, May 31, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Wagner is 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA in Class AA Biloxi, but fantasy owners would be taking a total shot in the dark by trusting him in his debut.
