|Phillies | Jake Thompson headed to rotation?|
Sun, 17 Jul 2016 04:39:40 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies SP Jake Thompson's turns at Class AAA Lehigh Valley are in sync with those of Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson. Should Hellickson be dealt at the deadline, Thompson could move in as Hellickson's immediate replacement.
Fantasy Tip: Thompson was acquired in the Cole Hamels trade from the Texas Rangers, and his numbers are favorable. He has a 2.42 earned run average in over 111 innings on the mound, with 2.6 walks and 6.2 strikeouts per nine innings. Thompson might make a decent starter in daily-league circles should he be brought up.

|Phillies | Jake Thompson pitching well in minors|
Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:02:29 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies SP Jake Thompson has a 0.76 ERA in five starts with Class AAA Lehigh Valley in June and has held opponents to a .271 on-base percentage and .547 OPS in that span. Overall he's 6-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 15 starts with a 1.17 WHIP and 63 strikeouts and 27 walks in 90 2/3 innings. If he continues to pitch well over the next few weeks, he could be an option to be called up by the Phillies.
Fantasy Tip: Thompson's numbers are nice, but his 6.3 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 aren't all that appealing for prospective fantasy owners, mainly in NL-only and dynasty leagues. Keep Thompson on your radar in those formats but keep expectations in check if he gets a call to join the Phillies rotation in the second half this year.

|Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman|
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700
Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.
Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

|Tigers | Joakim Soria acquired|
Wed, 23 Jul 2014 20:02:55 -0700
The Texas Rangers traded RP Joakim Soria to the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, July 23, according to a source. The Rangers will get RP Corey Knebel, and minor-league P Jake Thompson. The deal is pending physicals.
Fantasy Tip: The bullpen in Detroit has been a dumpster fire this season, and the team would likely be well ahead in the Central Division race if not for its shortcomings. It's uncertain yet whether Soria will step into closer duties in Motown, but fantasy owners of Joe Nathan have to dislike this deal tremendously. Nathan has struggled with plenty of blown saves, and it wouldn't be shocking to see Soria step right into ninth-inning duties.
