Twins | Tyler Duffey hangs around a while

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 23:36:30 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey allowed four earned runs, six hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision Saturday, July 16, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey hasn't lost in five starts dating back to June 15, but he has lasted at least six innings in each of his past four outings. He still has a sub-.500 record and 5.23 ERA, but he has re-emerged as a useful fantasy option in the deeper of NL-only play.

Twins | Tyler Duffey has nine strikeouts

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 00:06:40 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey struck out nine batters to match a career high Thursday, July 7, in a 10-1 win over the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey looks good so far, but his earned run average is still a robust 5.20. That is not the ERA the Twins will want to see, but it appears Duffey is improving as the second half of the year gets underway. Play Duffey in DFS leagues, but wait and see how he performs long-term before doing anything else.

Twins | Tyler Duffey twirls eight-inning gem

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 13:38:16 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey enjoyed perhaps the finest of his 22 career starts against the New York Yankees on Sunday, June 26, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out eight over as many innings for his first win since May 25.

Fantasy Tip: To put this outing into some perspective, Duffey hadn't even come close to a quality start since tossing seven scoreless innings against the Cleveland Indians on May 15. The eight innings are a career high and the eight strikeouts are one short of another personal best. Despite the dominant outing, Duffey should remain on fantasy benches as he faces the Texas Rangers at home on Saturday.

Twins | Tyler Duffey to remain in rotation

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 22:58:37 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey will remain in the rotation, making his next scheduled start Sunday, June 26, against the New York Yankees, manager Paul Molitor said Wednesday, June 22. Duffey has allowed 18 runs and 23 hits over his past three starts.

Fantasy Tip: While it's good news Duffey will continue to start, he is only worth retaining in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues at this juncture.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph halts long skid

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 22:51:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph ended a 1-for-31 slump over his last eight games by going 2-for-5 with a two-run shot off Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey on Tuesday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Given how poorly the Phillies' offense has been for most of the season and the fact his manager just recently promoted him over Ryan Howard, Joseph is a poor fantasy first baseman at the moment. In leagues he is catcher-eligible, however, his .238 average, eight homers and 14 RBI in 105 at-bats plays pretty well. In those leagues, he is a near must-start.

Twins | Tyler Duffey let down by defense

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 23:29:00 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey allowed six runs - four earned - and six hits with three walks and two strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a loss Wednesday, June 15, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Duffey was let down by his defense on numerous occasions, and his stat line isn't nearly as bad as it looks. Still, overall he has a 2-6 record and 5.56 ERA and his usefulness is limited to the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues at this point.

Twins | Tyler Duffey looking to rebound

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:29:54 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey has not given up less than four runs in a single start since he threw seven shutout innings against the Cleveland Indians May 15. He's sporting an 8.18 ERA in two starts in June and allowed six runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings in his last start against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: There's not a ton to like about Duffey from a fantasy perspective right now other than his 8.1 K/9 on the season. His 5.33 ERA and 1.49 WHIP on the year don't play in most mixed leagues, but a cushy matchup against the weak-hitting Halos lineup make him one to watch this evening.

Twins | Tyler Duffey defeats Kansas City

Wed, 25 May 2016 17:54:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey (2-3) allowed five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 25, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Minnesota's starting rotation has recorded just six wins to date and Duffey has one-third of those wins, making him the only starter on the team with multiple victories. This feat is even more amazing considering that he began the season in the minors. That being said, Duffey is only worth rostering in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Twins | Ervin Santana scratched from start

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 12:15:47 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana (back) was scratched from his start with a sore lower back Sunday, April 24, against the Washington Nationals. SP Tyler Duffey was called up from the minors to pitch in Santana's spot. Manager Paul Molitor said Santana needs to throw a bullpen session before hopefully returning in about a week. Molitor said the team won't rush Santana.

Fantasy Tip: Hang on to Santana for now while he heals. Duffey showed excellent control as a rookie in 2015 and induces plenty of ground balls, but his ability to generate strikeouts is in question with his offspeed pitches. He may only stick around for a little bit until Santana returns, so he's a speculative flyer in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues right now.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco wins fifth spot

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 07:41:07 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco won the fifth starter spot as SP Tyler Duffey was optioned to Class AAA Rochester Tuesday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco is merely an AL-only depth starter at this stage.
