Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme's 106.1 passer rating in the 2003 postseason was the highest for a quarterback making his first playoff appearance since 1985. However, he doesn't hold the highest career postseason rating on the team. QB Rodney Peete's career postseason passer rating is 124.2, earned in one game with the Dallas Cowboys and two with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I'm not concerned with that," Peete said. "Chris is a good, young player. He had a great camp last year and he has definitely progressed in his three years here. Whatever decision they make, it's up to the coaches. I'm at a point in my career where I'm not going to get caught up in all of that."

According to Panthers.com, Carolina Panthers backup QB Rodney Peete has been instrumental in the development of starting QB Jake Delhomme. "I can't say enough good things about Rodney, having a guy with all of the experience that he has had," Delhomme said. "When I come off the field to the sidelines, I talk to the coach, but it's always nice to talk to Rodney and kind of just bang ideas off his head. He's telling me things. He's just another coach out there, except it's different because he's a player. He's meant the world to me."

Now that Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme has settled in as the starter, look for the Panthers to use the shotgun formation a bit more. Previous starting QB Rodney Peete didn't like the formation and the team stayed away from it. But Delhomme is a fan of the shotgun and it will be part of the offense. It won't be used often, but will be a factor in obvious passing situations.

Updating earlier reports, Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a three-year deal with free agent QB Rodney Peete (Panthers). He will sign a three-year, $4 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $500,000. In addition to the signing bonus, Peete will collect a roster bonus of $500,000. The base salaries for each of the three years of the new deal are $1 million. The contract also includes "makeable" incentives of up to $1.5 million in 2003 and about $2.5 million for each of the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Steve Reed reports for the Gaston Gazette free agent QB Jake Delhomme (Saints) is expected to visit with the Carolina Panthers on Friday. The Panthers are expected to meet with Delhomme regardless of whether or not they re-sign QB Rodney Peete. Under NFL rules, the Panthers aren’t allowed to have any contact with Delhomme or his agent, Rick Smith, until midnight Friday. Smith told The Gazette this week he “could neither confirm nor deny” he’s made plans for his client to be in Charlotte on Friday, but did say Delhomme has an interest in the Panthers. Smith said Delhomme is also interested in Dallas, Chicago and Denver, all of which are in the market for starting quarterbacks.

Updating previous reports, the Gaston Gazette reports the Carolina Panthers opened discussions Thursday night with Tom Condon about a new deal for his client, QB Rodney Peete. The two sides aren’t close to reaching a deal, though, and Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said the team will not overpay for Peete. “We have an idea of what we’re willing to pay and we’ll go ahead and try to get it done at that price,” Hurney said. “If not, then you look at your other options.”

The Tribune Review reports Carolina Panthers QB Rodney Peete (diziness) left Sunday's game because he felt dizzy after a blow to the back of his head. As noted, he returned to the game in the second half. "I definitely felt a hit to the back of my head,” Peete said. “I don’t know who actually hit me or how it happened. At the half, it kind of got better. I thought I was ready to go back in there and try to help us win.”
