Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa placed on DL

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:41:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin Wednesday, April 27. In a corresponding move, SP Eddie Butler was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque.

Fantasy Tip: Even in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, De La Rosa isn't a must-stash hurler. He has a 4.48 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through his past 63 starts dating back to the beginning of 2014 and pitches his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, after all. Take a wait-and-see approach with Butler, as the 25-year-old righty has a 5.90 ERA through the first 19 starts of his career.

Rockies | Eddie Butler joining Colorado rotation

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 10:31:32 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler is being promoted from Class AAA to join the starting rotation, likely in place of SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin).

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa was injured in his start last night and should only be retained in deeper NL-only universes. Butler went 3-10 with a 5.90 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings for the Rockies in 2015. Those numbers won't exactly instill confidence in fantasy owners. He throws hard, but there's not a ton else to like right now. Plus, he'll be pitching home games at Coors Field. Take a flier on him in NL leagues, but keep watch everywhere else.

Rockies | Eddie Butler feeling better

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 22:03:08 -0800

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler feels more comfortable this time around in spring training, and he has been working with the coaching staff to try to contain his excitement. "It's something I talked about with the coaching staff and that's keeping my emotions under control and attacking hitters," Butler said.

Fantasy Tip: Butler spun three scoreless innings with two hits and a walk with one strikeout. He has looked good through two spring starts and could be a nice sleeper in NL-only fantasy formats, but pitching in Coors Field is always a drawback for any pitcher.

Rockies | Eddie Butler sent to minors

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 15:15:57 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler was optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) had a 5.90 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and a weak 4.8 K/9 this year after allowing a whopping 17 earned runs in his last 14 innings over three starts. You can drop him if you owned him in an NL-only league. Gonzalez Germen was recalled and could join the rotation in Butler's place. Germen isn't attractive, even in the deepest of leagues.

Rockies | Eddie Butler being demoted

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 14:48:55 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler is being sent to the minors Tuesday, June 9.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been too inconsistent for fantasy players to rely on, posting a 4.80 ERA and 1.82 WHIP while striking out only 4.8 hitters per nine innings. The move likely means David Hale ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) will remain in the rotation for the time being. Chris Rusin is another intriguing matchup option on FantasyScore if he gets a prolonged look in the rotation.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa scratched

Sat, 30 May 2015 13:43:20 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (finger) was scratched from his start Saturday, May 30, and SP Eddie Butler was moved up to start against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been awful thus far and should be avoided on FantasyScore.

Rockies | Chad Bettis starting Thursday

Wed, 13 May 2015 16:04:50 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis has been recalled from the minors and will start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, May 14, with SP Eddie Butler going Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Bettis will stay in the Rockies rotation, but a strong start would certainly help his cause. He'll be dirt cheap at FantasyScore, but against a potent Dodgers lineup, there's no reason to take the huge risk.

Rockies | Eddie Butler has inside track

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 08:55:09 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler has the inside track to one of the final starting rotation spots.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,000, 6.0% of your cap) is a decent prospect that would receive consideration on FantasyScore. However, he has to deal with Coors Field, so mix and match as necessary.

Rockies | Colorado youths eyeing rotation spot

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 15:15:49 -0700

Colorado Rockies SPs Jon Gray and Eddie Butler are competing for the final rotation spot, according manager Walt Weiss. Also in the running are SPs David Hale and Christian Bergman.

Fantasy Tip: Gray and Butler have the fantasy upside, with the former being the team's top pitching prospect. Although until there is an official announcement, it is difficult to roster any of the four outside of NL-only formats, especially pitching their home games at Coors Field. It is a situation to monitor, and if Gray or Butler win the job, they could warrant a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues.
