Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, July 5. SP Eddie Butler was optioned to Class AAA Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Chatwood has been solid for the Rockies this year with a 3.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, but his 5.6 strikeouts per nine innings leaves something to be desired for fantasy owners. He's a matchup play in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he's on the road and not at pitcher-friendly Coors Field. He's starting against the Giants tonight.

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, June 19, with a mid-back strain. SP Eddie Butler is likely to take Chatwood's spot in the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Chatwood was one of the best pitchers in baseball on the road with a 5-0 record and a 1.25 ERA. He's worth stashing if you have space despite his 5.57 K/9. Butler has been nothing short of abysmal in his young career, and he's not worth adding except for depth in NL-only leagues.

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Anderson will make his MLB debut versus the San Diego Padres Sunday, June 12, in place of SP Eddie Butler.
Fantasy Tip: Anderson is a 26-year-old left-hander who went 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA over six starts for three different minor-league affiliates this year, with 13 walks and 30 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings. He should be viewed as nothing more than an inexpensive flier option in DFS.

Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler will pitch against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, May 28, and SP Chris Rusin will be pushed back to start against the Giants Sunday, May 29.
Fantasy Tip: With both outings taking place at hitter-friendly Coors Field, neither Butler or Rusin are viable options in the majority of fantasy formats. After all, Butler has a career 6.70 ERA through 48 1/3 innings at Coors, and Rusin has a 5.95 mark through 84 2/3 innings.

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 24, and he will start that evening's game against the Boston Red Sox. He will be followed in the rotation by SP Jon Gray Wednesday, May 25, and SP Eddie Butler Thursday, May 26.
Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa went 1-3 with a 10.18 ERA in five starts before landing on the disabled list and posted a 4.30 ERA in three rehab outings for Class AAA Albuquerque. Although he is striking out batters at a much higher rate than normal, that's the only good thing that can be said about his performance this year. He should be avoided outside of deep NL-only fantasy leagues.
Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:41:03 -0700
Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin Wednesday, April 27. In a corresponding move, SP Eddie Butler was recalled from Class AAA Albuquerque.
Fantasy Tip: Even in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, De La Rosa isn't a must-stash hurler. He has a 4.48 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP and a 7.7 K/9 through his past 63 starts dating back to the beginning of 2014 and pitches his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field, after all. Take a wait-and-see approach with Butler, as the 25-year-old righty has a 5.90 ERA through the first 19 starts of his career.
Wed, 27 Apr 2016 10:31:32 -0700
Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler is being promoted from Class AAA to join the starting rotation, likely in place of SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin).
Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa was injured in his start last night and should only be retained in deeper NL-only universes. Butler went 3-10 with a 5.90 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings for the Rockies in 2015. Those numbers won't exactly instill confidence in fantasy owners. He throws hard, but there's not a ton else to like right now. Plus, he'll be pitching home games at Coors Field. Take a flier on him in NL leagues, but keep watch everywhere else.
