Padres | Jon Jay remains sidelined

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:53:45 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field again and is hitting leadoff against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: Jay's injury isn't believed to be serious, so he could be back at leadoff any day now. He has very little power but makes good contact and reaches base often with a .280/.340/.371 slash line. That can help for depth in deeper leagues. Jankowski is a scrappy left-hander that has nice speed, but that's about it. Hitting leadoff increases his daily value, but he's still a low-end deep sleeper against Cueto tonight.

Padres | Jon Jay, Brett Wallace sitting

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:09:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay and 1B Brett Wallace are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, May 17. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting ninth, while 3B Adam Rosales is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. Also, 1B Wil Myers moves to the leadoff spot and OF Melvin Upton Jr. is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: We can't recommend Jankowski or Rosales as deep sleeper picks in daily formats while facing the MadBum. Myers loses a little daily value, as well, hitting leadoff without the opportunity to drive in as many runs. Upton is a more of a sleeper option if you're feeling lucky in a tough matchup.

Padres | Jon Jay sitting out

Sun, 15 May 2016 09:38:52 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, May 15. OF Travis Jankowski will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has not received many starts this season and his hitting only .111 this month. Owners should avoid Jankowski and use other players in their lineups.

Padres | Jon Jay has the day off

Sat, 14 May 2016 14:06:31 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is out of the lineup Saturday, May 14, with OF Travis Jankowski leading off in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski is 5-for-20 (.250) with three steals. Wily Peralta has been brutal this season, so the matchup is nice. Jankowski just doesn't present a ton of upside for a DFS play.

Padres | Three Padres sit Game 1

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:09:08 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez (hamstring), OF Jon Jay and OF Melvin Upton Jr. are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, in the first game of a doubleheader. OF Travis Jankowski is leading off, OF Alex Dickerson is hitting sixth and SS Adam Rosales is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has a homer and four RBI in six at-bats this season, and he's worth a basement flyer against Kyle Hendricks. Jankowski and Rosales aren't worth consideration.

Padres | Melvin Upton receives night off

Mon, 02 May 2016 16:44:56 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Melvin Upton Jr. (rest) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in his place and batting eighth versus Colorado Rockies SP Jon Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski collected just six extra-base hits in 90 at-bats last year as a rookie, and thus far through his first 15 ABs, he's got none, while striking out seven times. He'll be facing a pretty good strikeout pitcher in this one, and shouldn't even be considered for daily games.

Padres | Travis Jankowski not 100%

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 12:14:17 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Travis Jankowski (ankle) isn't at 100% but is expected to work out Thursday, March 24, and travel to Mexico City this weekend for the team's games, according to manager Andy Green.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski is a speedy outfielder for the Friars who is likely to serve in some sort of platoon role in center field this year with Melvin Upton. Jankowski is a slap hitter whose main asset is his speed, but he's mostly notable to fantasy owners in NL-only leagues.

Padres | Travis Jankowski back soon

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 09:33:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Travis Jankowski (ankle) thinks he'll be back in a couple of days from a left ankle contusion.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has five steals this spring and could earn a sizeable chunk of playing time. He's a late-round flyer in mixed leagues.

Padres | Travis Jankowski leaves after HBP

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:27:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Travis Jankowski (ankle) suffered a left ankle contusion after being hit by a pitch Tuesday, March 22. He had to leave the game on a cart with his ankle wrapped, but did manage to crack a smile as he was helped off the field.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that he was smiling is good news this won't sideline him for any extended absence, but regardless, he's simply a poor fantasy option going into drafts for just about all leagues. He hit .211/.245/.344 in 34 games as a rookie last year, registering just two home runs and 12 RBI in the process. He'll have to go on a run first before owners should even think of adding him. If he does have to miss time, that would benefit Melvin "B.J." Upton.

Padres | Travis Jankowski injured

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:54:59 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Travis Jankowski (leg) hurt himself running from first base to third base. Jankowski walked off the field with help and appeared to have a left leg injury.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski projects as a backup OF behind Jon Jay in center and Matt Kemp in right, but he could miss some time. That would weaken the Padres outfield and possibly trigger some changes. Stay tuned to see how this pans out.
