Rangers | Joey Gallo won't be out long

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 14:32:47 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo (ankle) is currently in a walking boot but doesn't expect to miss much time at Double-A Frisco after having surgery on the trigonum bone in his ankle. He'll meet with a doctor and have stitches removed Friday, April 10. "I should also miss 10 games if that," Gallo said. "That's why we did it now. I must have done something to jar it loose." Gallo had two home runs and six RBI in 32 spring at-bats, and he struck out just eight times.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has immense power upside for fantasy owners, but he may not be brought up to the majors until later this year. He's a stash candidate in deep AL-only and keeper leagues for the time being.

Rangers | Joey Gallo undergoes ankle surgery

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 14:38:29 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo (ankle) underwent surgery to remove the Os Trigonum bone in his left ankle Friday, April 3, and will start the minor league season on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: While a DL stint is never a good thing, the recovery time is minimal, and Gallo shouldn't miss an extended period of time. Geovany Soto had the same surgery last year and missed just 16 days. Gallo remains a high-end power prospect, and a strong showing in the minors could earn him a summer promotion to the majors, where his huge power would immediately make him fantasy relevant.

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo will open the season with Double-A Frisco.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is one of the best power-hitting prospects in the game. He still needs more minor league seasoning, though, and is a stash candidate in AL-only and keeper leagues.

Rangers | Texas sends Joey Gallo down

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 14:50:57 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo was sent down to minor league camp Monday, March 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo is an impressive young prospect in Texas' organization that is most known for his off-the-charts power at the plate. He's currently blocked by Adrian Beltre at the hot corner, but he's a candidate to come up later in 2015 when rosters expand. Gallo is only a candidate for AL-only and keeper league rosters.

Rangers | Joey Gallo won't play OF

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 09:56:03 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo will not play in the outfield, according to manager Jeff Bannister.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo is one of the Rangers' top prospects, but he's currently blocked at third base by Adrian Beltre. There's a chance he sees the majors in 2015, but it may not be until the second half of the season. He'll be a popular target in AL-only and keeper leagues, but you can likely avoid him in standard leagues for now.

Rangers | Joey Gallo hits his second spring homer

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 16:19:17 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo hit his second homer of the spring Friday, March 13.

Fantasy Tip: The power-hitting third baseman is blocked at his primary position by Adrian Beltre. He tallied 291 plate appearances in Double-A last year and should receive more seasoning in the minors. A strong showing could earn him a summer promotion to the majors, though, where his huge power would immediately make him fantasy relevant. Gamers can consider spending a late-round pick to stash the powerful Gallo, but beware of his strikeouts and the low batting average likely to accompany the homers.

Rangers | Strikeouts a concern for Joey Gallo

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 15:25:59 -0800

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo struck out 179 times between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco, and the No. 1 thing on the agenda is to quiet Gallo's swing to limit his strikeouts, according to hitting coach Dave Madadan. "He's a big guy so he has a lot of moving parts. If we can cut down those variables and be more consistent with his swing, we can cut down those strikeouts, and his pitch selection will improve. It improved last year over 2013, so if we can continue that trajectory, we'll have a pretty special player."

Fantasy Tip: With just 68 at-bats at the Double-A level, Gallo is expected to start the season in the minors. Still, he is one of the premiere power prospects in baseball and is worth consideration in the endgame of deeper drafts, especially if he has a solid spring. Keeping tabs on his progress during the season for an early speculative add is encouraged in all formats.

Rangers | Joey Gallo reaches 40 bombs

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 10:45:11 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo hit his 40th home run of the season Sunday, Aug. 17, with Double-A Frisco. Gallo became the first hitter to record consecutive 40 home run seasons at the minor league level since 1982.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers stated they aren't going to recall Gallo in September. He hasn't played above the Double-A level, so expect Gallo to begin 2015 in the minors. He could hit his way to the Texas lineup during the season, though.
