Rangers | Texas pushing hard for Chris Sale

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:11:53 -0700

Chicago White SP Chris Sale is a serious trade target of the Texas Rangers. However, the White Sox are demanding 3B/OF Joey Gallo and/or 2B Jurickson Profar in any deal.

Fantasy Tip: Profar and Gallo are coveted assets, but Texas is also loaded with plenty of young talent. This could be a fit. The fantasy impact for Sale relocating to Texas would be negligible, but full-time at-bats for Profar and/or Gallo would be a huge fantasy boost.

Rangers | Jurickson Profar to see more playing time

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:49:07 -0700

Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar and OF Ryan Rua will see more opportunities at first base with 1B Prince Fielder (neck) on the disabled list. 2B Hanser Alberto will be used as a middle infield backup. 3B/OF Joey Gallo was not called up from the minor leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Between first base and outfield with Shin-Soo Choo (back) also on the DL, Profar will likely be an everyday player for the foreseeable future. Profar's .316/.364/.451 slash line with four homers and 14 RBI in 133 at-bats demand attention in all fantasy leagues now. Gallo remains one of the most intriguing prospects yet to make an impact at the big league level this year. His elite power make him stash-worthy in keeper and AL-only leagues, and he could be a trade chip this summer.

Rangers | Joey Gallo, Jurickson Profar are costly

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 11:20:37 -0700

Texas Rangers INF Jurickson Profar and 3B/OF Joey Gallo will require a top-of-the-rotation starter in order to be traded.

Fantasy Tip: Texas has a wealth of resources, and Profar and Gallo could be full-timer players for most clubs in the league, so they're potential trading chips in the right deal. However, the Rangers aren't going to hand either over. It isn't out of the question to speculatively add Gallo now, and Profar should be owned in the majority of seasonal leagues already. Check back for updates leading into the trade deadline.

Rangers | Joey Gallo sent down

Sat, 28 May 2016 07:51:11 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo was sent back to the minor leagues Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo had only one at-bat with Texas before being sent back down. Unless an injury or another circumstance opens up more playing time at the major league level, Gallo can be ignored in the majority of formats. His elite power combined with improvements in plate discipline could make him an immediate contributor whenever he sees consistent playing time, though.

Rangers | Joey Gallo called up to majors

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:43:04 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo was called up to the team Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: If you have a spot available on your roster, you should probably act quickly to secure Gallo's services. The 22-year-old phenom underwhelmed last year in his first taste of the big leagues, but he's been dominating this season at Class AAA Round Rock, where he's registered a .265/.415/.639 line with eight homers and 20 RBI in just 24 games. With both Shin-Soo Choo and Drew Stubbs landing on the disabled list Monday, there will be openings to get Gallo in the lineup regularly, and don't forget the team can also implement him at both corners of the diamond as well as at designated hitter. He has tremendous upside.

Rangers | Joey Gallo activated at Class AAA

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:28:06 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo (groin) was activated from the disabled list by Class AAA Round Rock Thursday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo has tremendous power upside, but he doesn't have any place to play with the Rangers, and he still has some fine-tuning needed in the minors. However, after starting the season with seven home runs and a .254/.400/.642 slash line through just 85 plate appearances with Round Rock, he might be tuned and ready for the majors. He might also only be an injury away from making a jump, too. In deep leagues, Gallo is in the stash conversation.

Rangers | Joey Gallo closer to returning

Thu, 12 May 2016 17:11:47 -0700

Texas Rangers minor league 3B Joey Gallo (groin) is scheduled to report to extended spring training Saturday, May 14, and could be activated from the disabled list the following weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo was batting .254 with seven home runs and 16 RBI through 20 games this season for Class AAA Round Rock prior to suffering a Grade 1 left groin strain. The 23-year-old slugger possesses a tremendous amount of upside and should remain stashed in AL-only, deep mixed and dynasty leagues.

Rangers | Joey Gallo could miss a month

Tue, 03 May 2016 20:47:31 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo (groin) is expected to miss three to four weeks with a Grade 1 left groin strain. He had the same injury in his other leg in 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo has some of the biggest power in the minors and was a popular stash option. It looks like he may not surface in the bigs until closer to the All-Star break. If you need the roster spot in mixed leagues, cut him. He should be held onto in AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Three Rangers sent down

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 09:44:01 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo, OF Nomar Mazara and 2B Jurickson Profar were all optioned to minor league camp Monday, March 21.

Fantasy Tip: All three could have significant roles on the team by season's end. Mazara is a notable prospect that could easily make an impact in left field with Josh Hamilton already hurt and if Ian Desmond doesn't pan out in left. Gallo's power is elite, and he made strides this spring with his plate patience. Profar's shoulder concerns have put him off the fantasy radar the last two years, but he's one to watch if he falls into playing time, too.

Rangers | Joey Gallo turning the corner?

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 16:06:30 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo hit a towering home run in spring action Tuesday, March 15, and he has three home runs in his last four games over 10 at-bats. The homer also came against a left-handed pitcher. He's reached base in 10 of his last 17 plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo's spring bears watching. He's always had immense power, but his inability to make consistent contact was what has been holding him back. An avenue for everyday playing time in Texas remains iffy, but if Gallo continues to make gains with his plate approach, he's certainly worth selecting in the later rounds of deep mixed leagues for his upside.
