Mets | Travis d'Arnaud takes important step

Tue, 26 May 2015 17:40:35 -0700

New York Mets C Travis d'Arnaud (finger) caught five innings in an extended spring training game Tuesday, May 26. d'Arnaud went 1-for-3 with a run scored. The Mets plan to have d'Arnaud go on a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie and then with Class AAA Las Vegas before he's activated from the disabled list. d'Arnaud could return for next week's series in San Diego, at which point C Kevin Plawecki will be returned to Las Vegas.

Fantasy Tip: d'Arnaud ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is worth stashing now in 12-team mixed leagues. The Mets offense sorely needs d'Arnaud to return and pick up where he left off before going on the DL.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki sitting out

Sun, 24 May 2015 08:46:58 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 24. C Anthony Recker will be the starting catcher for the Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) probably is just receiving a day off and should return soon. Recker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .200 in 25 at-bats this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki not starting Tuesday

Tue, 19 May 2015 13:29:47 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 19, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is getting a normal night off, and it may be because the game went 14 innings the night before. Sit Plawecki for the night. Anthony Recker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has two hits in four at-bats over the last week, both home runs. He may be worth the low-cost play.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki gets day off

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:36:21 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki will get another day off Sunday, May 17, against the Milwaukee Brewers. C Johnny Monell will start and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Monell ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is a left-handed batter who'll go up against RHP Wily Peralta. Monell has just one hit out of eight plate appearances, and he has struck out 37.5% of the time. FantasyScore owners need to look away.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki to sit out again Friday

Thu, 14 May 2015 11:53:57 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki will sit out again Friday, May 15, in favor of C Johnny Monell, who will be receiving his first major league start against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to manager Terry Collins. Monell is 1-for-4 with two RBI off the bench so far. Plawecki is hitting only .220 with a home run and eight RBI in 17 games since taking over the starting catching duties.

Fantasy Tip: Stay away from Plawecki ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) for the time being. Monell ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) isn't much better of an option for FantasyScore users while going up against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse Friday.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki not playing

Thu, 14 May 2015 09:51:30 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki is receiving a day off Thursday, May 14. C Anthony Recker is behind the dish and hitting seventh in the batting order against Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Recker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting just .176 (3-for-17) in a backup role, and he should be avoided at FantasyScore today.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki has impressed

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:13:57 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki has impressed so much that manager Terry Collins said Wednesday, May 6, that the team will have to figure out how to get playing time for C Travis d'Arnaud (finger) when he returns. "I certainly don't know when Travis is coming back. The closer he gets - and we'll see how Kevin's playing at the time - I think you've got to give yourself an idea of how this is going to work," Collins said.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki ($3,200; 6.4% of cap) has been a solid hitter with d'Arnaud sidelined. He has experience playing first base, so Collins could get creative to keep Plawecki in the lineup if he continues to hit.

Mets | NYM using three catchers for now

Tue, 05 May 2015 17:57:07 -0700

The New York Mets promoted C Johnny Monell from Triple-A Las Vegas Tuesday, May 5, and the club will use three catchers for now. Monell joins Cs Kevin Plawecki and Anthony Recker.

Fantasy Tip: Monell might get a start behind the dish, so FantasyScore owners might find him useful as a low-end option when punting the catcher spot to save salary to spread elsewhere. Plawecki ($3,200; 6.4% of cap) has proven to be the most useful FantasyScore option of the trio while Travis d'Arnaud (hand) has been out.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki taking day off

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 11:39:17 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. C Anthony Recker is starting behind the dish and hitting eighth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP David Phelps.

Fantasy Tip: Recker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a weak FantasyScore selection today at FantasyScore, especially while residing at the bottom of New York's lineup.

Mets | Kevin Plawecki starting vs. Yankees

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:52:13 -0700

New York Mets C Kevin Plawecki is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against the New York Yankees Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Plawecki will be added to the FantasyScore player pool shortly, and the rookie has a shot at taking over regular catching duties for the Metropolitans. He is worth a look in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but his value is fleeting, as Travis D'Arnaud is likely only four to six weeks from returning.
