Red Sox | Brian Johnson is healthy

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 16:38:46 -0800

Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson (elbow) allowed two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work in the Grapefruit League opener Wednesday, March 2, but he came out of it feeling healthy. Johnson is expected to start the year with Class AAA Pawtucket.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is an intriguing pitching prospect who has a deep arsenal with plenty of control of all his offerings. Last year's elbow injury limited him, but he could rise quickly with health. He's not much of a strikeout pitcher, though, so his upside could be limited. Keep him on your radar in dynasty/keeper formats.

Red Sox | Brian Johnson has no damage

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 15:08:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson (elbow) has no structural damage in his elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings in his lone MLB start of the season. Johnson walked more batters than he struck out in that game, and he won't be a FantasyScore option upon his return.

Red Sox | Brian Johnson's injury not serious

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 15:23:24 -0700

Updating previous reports, Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson's (elbow) injury isn't considered serious, according to general manager Ben Cherington. Boston will treat Johnson with rest and rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is one of Boston's promising young starting arms, so they're unlikely to rush him back to the majors this year, if at all. He's only worth stashing in dynasty and keeper formats while he's hurt.

Red Sox | Brian Johnson has ulnar nerve problem

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 14:37:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson (elbow) is dealing with an ulnar nerve issue in his elbow, according to manager John Farrell. Johnson is currently on the disabled list in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Ulnar nerve issues can often be the precursor to Tommy John surgery for pitchers, so this could become a serious problem for the Boston pitching prospect. Stay tuned for more information on his injury. Sit tight and continue stashing him for now if you own him in a dynasty or keeper format.

Red Sox | Brian Johnson to minors' DL

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 09:24:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson (elbow) was placed on the minors' disabled list with elbow tightness Tuesday, Aug. 4. He left his start Sunday, Aug. 2, at Class AAA Pawtucket after four innings and was seen flexing his arm.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is arguably the team's top pitching prospect. Keep an eye on any potential scans of his elbow. He's worth stashing in dynasty and AL-only formats.

Red Sox | Brian Johnson loses in debut

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 22:38:34 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Brian Johnson allowed four runs with three hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings in a loss Tuesday, July 21, against the Houston Astros in his major league debut.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's stat line actually looks a little worse than he has pitched. He is a solid FantasyScore option going forward if he gets another chance and his salary remains low.
