Texas Rangers OF Lewis Brinson (shoulder), the team's top pick in 2012 and one of their top position player prospects, is on the disabled list in the minors and will miss several weeks with a left shoulder strain. He was placed on the DL Monday, June 13. The Rangers don't think Brinson will require surgery. He was hitting .219 with a .273 on-base percentage, seven home runs and eight stolen bases at Class AA Frisco.
Fantasy Tip: Brinson's numbers this year on the farm aren't very impressive, but he has an intriguing power-speed combination that should play well in the major leagues eventually. Nomar Mazara's rise as a rookie this year has kind of left Brinson in the prospect shadow in Texas, but he should have more dynasty league appeal in 2017.

Texas Rangers OF Lewis Brinson (shoulder) returned to the lineup Wednesday, April 27, at Class AA Frisco. He had been out of the lineup since April 19 with a shoulder issue.
Fantasy Tip: Brinson is one of the team's top prospects that could emerge at some point this year. Keep him on your watch lists.

Texas Rangers OF Lewis Brinson (shoulder) is out at least a week in the minors with mild instability in his left shoulder.
Fantasy Tip: Brinson, along with Nomar Mazara, is one of Texas' many intriguing prospects. With Mazara already up in the big leagues, though, and Josh Hamilton (knee) working his way back soon, Brinson's journey to the big leagues will have to wait, especially now that he's injured. He could be a candidate to come up later this year, though. Stash Brinson in dynasty/keeper setups and watch him everywhere else.

Texas Rangers OFs Ryan Rua and Nomar Mazara will both receive a look in left field in spring training with OF Josh Hamilton (knee) slated to start on the disabled list. Rua was the Opening Day starter last year but wound up missing two months with a fractured heel. Mazara is the team's No. 2 prospect after hitting .284/.357/.443 with 13 home runs and 56 RBI at Class AA Frisco. OFs Justin Ruggiano, James Jones, Patrick Kivlehan and Lewis Brinson are other internal options.
Fantasy Tip: Rua had a tough break in 2015, but since he displayed those skills last spring, why can't he do it again. He's a speculative stash in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Mazara, only 20, clearly has more upside for the long term and is the better dart throw as a late-round flier.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) is seeking a second opinion on his sore left knee. He had surgery last season to clean out the cartilage in his left knee last season and experienced soreness in the winter. If he isn't ready the team has multiple options including OFs Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo, James Jones, Nomar Mazara, Ryan Rua and Justin Ruggiano.
Fantasy Tip: Itís uncertain how much time, if any, Hamilton will be forced to miss. The remaining outfielders are a hodgepodge and none are worth using outside of a deeper AL-only fantasy league. The team is also looking at a bevy of free-agent outfielders. Stay tuned.

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo and OFs Nomar Mazara and Lewis Brinson aren't expected to contribute until later this season.
Fantasy Tip: Gallo has intrigue late in deep mixed leagues for his power upside at the hot corner. Mazara is perhaps the most intriguing of the three and has the ability to hit for power and average at the next level. Mazara should be high up on your radar in AL-only and keeper leagues, but you'll need to remain patient.
