Indians | Tyler Naquin starting in center field

Sat, 14 May 2016 10:38:56 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Tyler Naquin will bat eighth and start in center field against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana Saturday, May 14. OF Rajai Davis will bat ninth and slide over to left field, while INF/OF Jose Ramirez bats fifth and starts at the hot corner. 3B Juan Uribe is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Naquin hit .315 during his first stint with the parent club this season and is back on the 25-man roster because OF Lonnie Chisenhall is on the bereavement list. He's worthy of consideration as an inexpensive flier in daily fantasy leagues Saturday.

Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall to bereavement list

Fri, 13 May 2016 11:36:51 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Lonnie Chisenhall was placed on the bereavement list Friday, May 13, and OF Tyler Naquin was recalled from Class AAA Columbus.

Fantasy Tip: Marlon Byrd will benefit the most from Chisenhall's vacancy in right field. He hasn't done much this year with a .239-2-9 line. He's a low-end outfielder worth considering in good matchups. Naquin could snag some time from Rajai Davis in center, and he hit .315 in his previous stint. He doesn't do much elsewhere, but he's a basement flyer worth consideration.

Indians | Michael Brantley likely to be backup CF

Sat, 07 May 2016 10:10:16 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley, who serves as the team's everyday left fielder, is expected to serve as the backup in center field to OF Rajai Davis, as a result of OF Tyler Naquin being demoted to Class AAA Columbus. OF Lonnie Chisenhall and INF/OF Jose Ramirez have also seen reps at the position, with Chisenhall gaining experience there during his recent rehab assignment and Ramirez playing center field in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley has played 356 career games in center field, while Chisenhall and Ramirez have yet to play the position during an MLB regular-season game, so it's unlikely that the latter two players will see time there except in an emergency. Marlon Byrd has played 849 career games in center but is being used strictly as a corner outfielder and designated hitter by Cleveland.

Indians | Tyler Naquin sent to minors

Sat, 07 May 2016 10:03:43 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Tyler Naquin has been optioned to Class AAA Columbus as a corresponding move for the club recalling SP Cody Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: Naquin played well in his brief stint in the majors, hitting .315 with four extra-base hits, two RBI and eight runs scored through 22 games. He was demoted due to the Indians' surplus of outfielders on the 25-man roster, although he should return to the parent club later this year. Anderson is starting against the Kansas City Royals Saturday, May 7, and is not a recommended fantasy option in any format.

Indians | Juan Uribe, Tyler Naquin sitting

Fri, 06 May 2016 13:13:04 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Juan Uribe and OF Tyler Naquin are not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Friday, May 6. OF Rajai Davis will start in center field and is batting eighth, while SS Jose Ramirez will start at third base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has played well over his last few games with at least one hit in six of his last 10 games and eight RBI during that span. He could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Ramirez has at least one hit in seven of his last 10 games and could also be used in daily leagues.

Indians | Rajai Davis, Lonnie Chisenhall sitting

Tue, 03 May 2016 11:26:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians OFs Rajai Davis and Lonnie Chisenhall are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3. OF Marlon Byrd is in right field and hitting seventh, while OF Tyler Naquin is starting in center field and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Neither Byrd nor Naquin are outstanding picks for daily rosters, but Byrd does have six hits in 13 at-bats against Verlander with a home run. Naquin has handled his own in 48 at-bats (.333 average). Both should be considered midrange outfield options as sleepers.

Indians | Rajai Davis leading off vs. Phillies

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 12:59:13 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis is starting in center field and batting first against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Friday, April 29. OF Tyler Naquin is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has a career .294/.348/.444 slash line against southpaws and is off to a strong start this season with a .286/.333/.482 line. He is a strong option in all fantasy formats Friday. However, his year-long value is decreasing with Michael Brantley back in the fold. Davis will likely see the smaller side of a timeshare with Naquin. Naquin has been strong to start the season, too, as he has gone 13-for-39 with seven runs and a .350 on-base percentage.

Indians | Three Tribe regulars sitting out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:42:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Juan Uribe and OFs Lonnie Chisenhall and Rajai Davis are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. 3B Jose Ramirez is at the hot corner and is batting seventh, OF Marlon Byrd is starting in right field and is hitting eighth, while OF Tyler Naquin sees the start in center field and is batting ninth against Minnesota Twins SP Jose Berrios.

Fantasy Tip: The Tribe is facing a top pitching prospect making his major league debut in Berrios, so their is plenty of risk and reward for all three players in daily formats. However, with all three near the bottom of the lineup, they're more of desperation deep sleeper picks.

Indians | Carlos Santana back in leadoff spot

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:01:07 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B Carlos Santana is hitting leadoff again against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Tuesday, April 26. OF Rajai Davis is not playing, while OF Tyler Naquin is starting in center field and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Santana's leadoff positioning is likely the result of Davis being out of the lineup tonight. Regardless, it's notable, especially in daily contests. Santana homered in his first at-bat out of the leadoff spot Friday and had four hits in 14 at-bats at leadoff over the weekend. Santana is a nice option for all formats tonight. Naquin has played little this year and is a low-end outfield option.

Indians | Tyler Naquin sitting vs. Mets

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:17:01 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Tyler Naquin is not in the starting lineup Sunday, April 17. INF/OF Jose Ramirez draws into the lineup and is starting in left field and batting ninth against New York Mets SP Steven Matz.

Fantasy Tip: Naquin is 5-for-15 to start the season, but he also hasn't drawn a walk or notched an extra-base hit. He is best left to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues at this point, and you'll have to avoid him Sunday. Ramirez is having a nice start with a .500 slugging percentage through his first 28 games, and he is a potential flier in daily contests Sunday. Ramirez's positional flexibility makes him a potential add in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, too.
