Cubs | CHC to explore trade talk for two players

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:14:56 -0800

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and 2B Javier Baez are the subject of trade interest, and the team will explore offers, according to sources. 3B Kris Bryant, SS Addison Russell and OF Kyle Schwarber are also attracting attention but the club does not intend to move them.

Fantasy Tip: Soler and Baez would bring back pitching, which is what the Cubs sorely need more of at the moment. Soler will get attention in the middle rounds of most mixed drafts, and Baez figures to go a bit lower.

Cubs | Addison Russell making progress

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 16:13:37 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) is making progress from his strained left hamstring but hasn't resumed hitting yet. He's trying to strengthen his hamstring and wants to be 100% before returning.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) won't be eligible to play at all in the NLCS, so you can avoid him on FantasyScore for now.

Cubs | Quintin Berry added to NLCS roster

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 10:12:35 -0700

The Chicago Cubs have added OF Quintin Berry to their active roster for the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets. He takes the spot of injured SS Addison Russell (hamstring).

Fantasy Tip: If Berry sees action in the NLCS, it will be primarily as a pinch runner or defensive replacement, so he is not a viable FantasyScore option. Including the postseason, he has 32 career stolen bases in 33 attempts.

Cubs | Addison Russell won't play in NLCS

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 11:27:09 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) will not be available to play in the National League Championship Series. He's dealing with a moderate hamstring strain.

Fantasy Tip: It's a big blow to the Cubs as they attempt to get back to the World Series for the first time since 1945. Russell will likely be replaced at the 6 with Javier Baez, who is a promising youngster with plenty of pop. However, he often swings and misses and is very aggressive at the dish, making him more of a sleeper pick on FantasyScore.

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) did not play in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, Oct. 13. He was able to test the injury, but 2B Javier Baez started in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Cubs | Addison Russell likely out for Game 5

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 13:58:44 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) likely would not be available if the team needs to play a Game 5 in their National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, according to head coach Joe Maddon.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) will be sidelined for a while because of the injury, so owners should look for updates on his condition. Javier Baez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) will start at shortstop while Russell is out and could be an option on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Addison Russell out of Game 4 lineup

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 10:30:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) is out of the lineup Tuesday, Oct. 13, with SS Javier Baez hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is a boom-or-bust FantasyScore play with a ton of power against John Lackey.

Cubs | Addison Russell has hammy issue

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 16:31:06 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hamstring) left Game 3 of the division series against the St. Louis Cardinals with tightness in his left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for more updates on Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) and whether he has a chance of playing in Game 4 tomorrow. If he's able to play, Russell is a fine shortstop pick on FantasyScore despite hitting low in the Cubs batting order on a regular basis.

Cubs | Addison Russell leaves Game 3

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 16:29:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell (hand) left Game 3 of the division series against the St. Louis Cardinals early Monday, Oct. 12, after injuring his right hand sliding into third base head-first on a triple. 2B Javier Baez replaced him in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Losing Russell ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) for the rest of the series would be a huge blow to Chicago. Stay tuned on an update on his condition. Baez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has experience at shortstop but isn't as sound of a defender as Russell. Baez also has plenty of power but has more swing and miss to his game. If Russell needs to miss time, Baez has sleeper status in daily games for his power.

Cubs | Addison Russell, Starlin Castro sitting

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 11:53:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell and 2B Starlin Castro are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. 2B Javier Baez is starting at the 6 and hitting seventh, while 2B Tommy La Stella is playing second base and batting fifth against Cincinnati Reds SP Josh Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Baez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is the much more attractive daily pick tonight as a value play than La Stella ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) as a deep sleeper. Smith has allowed seven earned runs in only nine innings in his last two starts against the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets.
