Cubs | Starlin Castro with day off

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 08:42:52 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 29, with SS Addison Russell moving up to sixth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is still trying to figure it out offensively and isn't a good start on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Addison Russell moved up order

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 13:29:26 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is batting sixth in Game 2 of the doubleheader against Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani Wednesday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) went 1-for-3 in Game 1 with a run and a double, and he entered the contest with a .280 batting average and .419 on-base percentage over his past nine outings. The lineup boost could land Russell in a few more RBI opportunities, and he stands as an upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Wednesday.

Cubs | Jonathan Herrera playing second base

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 12:10:50 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Jonathan Herrera will bat ninth and start at second base against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller Sunday, July 19. 2B Addison Russell will receive the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is batting .389 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs this month and can be viewed in FantasyScore as a productive means of salary cap relief.

Cubs | Manager believes in Addison Russell

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 14:42:50 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell has the confidence of his manager Joe Maddon. "I like his swing, I have no problems with his approach, his bat speed," Maddon said. "It's going to happen, and this kid is going to be really good."

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is riding a 23-for-120 run at the dish with just nine runs, a home run, eight RBI and a .537 OPS over his past 38 games. Just because Maddon has confidence in the 21-year-old middle infielder, doesn't mean fantasy owners should. Reserve Russell for deep mixed leagues and keeper/dynasty formats at this point.

Cubs | Javier Baez could be up in second half

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 14:50:44 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez (finger) could become the team's starting second baseman once his broken finger is fully healed. Baez would replace 2B Addison Russell at second base or allow him to move over to shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Although Baez struggled mightily in his first big-league experience in 2014, he was hitting .314 (44-for-158) with eight home runs and 29 RBI for Class AAA Iowa before being injured and was very close to a call-up to help the Cubs in interleague play. Russell end the first half with just four hits in 30 at-bats (.133) in July to drop his average under .230 on the season. Baez will be a popular waiver wire acquisition in all leagues if he returns to the show in the second half.

Cubs | Addison Russell starting night game

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 14:54:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is starting and batting ninth in the second game of the Cubs' double-header against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is riding a pretty nasty cold streak into this game. He has two knocks in his last 34 at-bats. While Russell is a risky play on FantasyScore tonight considering his recent struggles, Tim Cooney, the opposing pitcher for the Cardinals tonight, has posted a 5.40 earned run average and has allowed three home runs in his first two starts of the season.

Cubs | Addison Russell sitting out

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 07:45:34 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is out of the lineup Tuesday, July 7, in Game 1 of a doubleheader in favor of 2B Jonathan Herrera.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) isn't in there for his offense and isn't a good FantasyScore option.

Cubs | Starlin Castro returns to action

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 12:15:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is back in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Saturday, July 4, batting fifth. INF Addison Russell, who started at shortstop Friday, July 3, will play second base and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) received a scheduled day off Friday. He is 6-for-21 over the past week and is hitting .273 against the Fish this year.

Cubs | Addison Russell sitting vs. Mets

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:51:17 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 1. SS Jonathan Herrera is starting at second base and batting ninth against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players. Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a .231/.310/.354 slash line over his past 38 games, and he is best replaced in the majority of seasonal formats at this point. There is plenty of upside for Russell, and he doesn't look lost at the highest level, especially in the field. Still, until he strings together a solid run at the plate, he is a low-end fantasy option.

Cubs | Starlin Castro scratched

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:05:14 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (personal) was scratched Thursday, June 25, due to the birth of his child. SS Addison Russell slides over to short and up to fifth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Russell's ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) prime spot in the order could make him worthwhile on FantasyScore today. Jonathan Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) slips in at second base and hits ninth, but he's really not a feasible option.
