Cubs | Addison Russell sitting vs. Mets

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:51:17 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 1. SS Jonathan Herrera is starting at second base and batting ninth against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players. Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a .231/.310/.354 slash line over his past 38 games, and he is best replaced in the majority of seasonal formats at this point. There is plenty of upside for Russell, and he doesn't look lost at the highest level, especially in the field. Still, until he strings together a solid run at the plate, he is a low-end fantasy option.

Cubs | Starlin Castro scratched

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:05:14 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro (personal) was scratched Thursday, June 25, due to the birth of his child. SS Addison Russell slides over to short and up to fifth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Russell's ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) prime spot in the order could make him worthwhile on FantasyScore today. Jonathan Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) slips in at second base and hits ninth, but he's really not a feasible option.

Cubs | Addison Russell working on streak

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 21:51:06 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and three RBIs Wednesday, June 17, against the Cleveland Indians, pushing his hitting streak to eight games.

Fantasy Tip: Russell is hitting .345 (10-for-29) with four runs scored, a homer and five RBIs during his eight-game hitting streak. He remains a useful FantasyScore option at $3,400 (or 6.8% of cap) even though he won’t provide a ton of power.

Cubs | Addison Russell out of the lineup

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 10:20:57 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Sunday, June 7. SS Jonathan Herrera will be the starting second baseman and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has played in each of the last 11 games, so he is probably receiving a day off. Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is coming off a two-hit performance in his last start but is hitting only .231 this season and may not be a great option on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Starlin Castro will not start

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 07:25:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup Saturday, June 6. 2B Addison Russell will be the starting shortstop for the game and is batting ninth, while SS Jonathan Herrera will start at second base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup in the next day or two. Russell ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has only three hits in his last six games but could still be an attractive option on FantasyScore. Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting only .204 this season and probably should not be a starting option.

Cubs | Addison Russell moved up in order

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 13:13:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is hitting sixth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP Brad Hand Tuesday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has four homers and 15 RBI while hitting .254 in his rookie season, but he gets lost in the fantasy shuffle often times while hitting ninth in Chicago. A temporary move up in the lineup makes him more attractive to use on FantasyScore tonight. If there was ever a day to pick Russell, it'd be tonight against Hand.

Cubs | Jonathan Herrera playing Sunday

Sun, 24 May 2015 12:26:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Jonathan Herrera is starting against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, May 24, in place of 2B Addison Russell. He is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is receiving the day off and should be removed from all fantasy lineups. Herrera ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is not much more than a low-priced flier in FantasyScore.

Cubs | Addison Russell batting ninth

Sat, 23 May 2015 15:37:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell will bat ninth Saturday, May 23, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) went 3-for-10 in his last two games, but he finds himself batting behind pitcher Jake Arrieta Saturday. While Russell's play has been improving of late, his position in the batting order drastically reduces his value on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Addison Russell settling in with Cubs

Fri, 08 May 2015 12:26:23 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/SS Addison Russell is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, which is the longest of any Chicago hitter this season. During the stretch, Russell has six runs, two home runs, six RBI and a .343/.378/.657 slash line.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap), just 21, is having quality at-bats, and while he is striking out 37.8% of the time, it is tough to ask for more at this stage of his career. He is worth a roster spot in the majority of fantasy leagues and projects to be a low-end starter at shortstop and second base going forward. FantasyScore players have a nice bargain on their hands given his recent surge, too.

Cubs | Addison Russell picking it up

Wed, 06 May 2015 12:49:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Addison Russell is batting .357 (10-for-28) with six extra-base hits and six RBI during his eight-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Russell ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) would appeal more to FantasyScore users if he weren't hitting ninth for the Cubbies, but he shouldn't be ignored just because of that. The youngster has raised his average to .261 (12-for-46), and he has two home runs and seven RBI.
