Dodgers | Jimmy Rollins still in team's plans

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 10:26:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Jimmy Rollins could become a trade candidate in August if he's passed through waivers, but team brass loves Rollins on the field and in the clubhouse, and he's earned a lot of rope, even with SS Corey Seager breathing down his neck by hitting .375 at Class AAA Oklahoma City. The Dodgers need to be totally certain Seager can succeed in the majors before giving up on Rollins.

Fantasy Tip: Rollins ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) would almost certainly find himself in a bench role if he's traded this summer. The way he's hitting, he's only useful in the deepest of leagues, and he's a weak play on FantasyScore. Seager needs to be stashed away in NL-only leagues now, and he should be already owned in all keeper and dynasty formats.

Dodgers | L.A. not rushing Corey Seager

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 11:41:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager will eventually replace SS Jimmy Rollins at shortstop, but the Dodgers are in no hurry to promote their top prospect after he struggled for three weeks after being called up to Class AAA in May.

Fantasy Tip: Seager should already be owned in all dynasty and keeper formats, and he's even worth stashing in NL-only leagues if you have the room. He'll be a popular waiver wire commodity whenever he does come up, but there's no guarantee that'll come this season.

Dodgers | Corey Seager wearing out the minors

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 13:15:09 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager has 37 runs, nine home runs, 33 RBI with a .326/.373/.537 slash line through 54 games over two levels with Class AA Tulsa and Class AAA Oklahoma City.

Fantasy Tip: With the recent callups of top prospects Joey Gallo and Carlos Correa, Seager might be the best hitting prospect in the minor leagues. He was Baseball America's fifth-rated prospect entering the season, and could receive a cup of coffee with the Dodgers when rosters expand in September. Depending on the settings of your keeper/dynasty league, Seager may already warrant a roster spot. In all other formats, he is worth monitoring.

Dodgers | Corey Seager dominating in minors

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:39:57 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager went 6-for-6 with Class AAA Oklahoma City Thursday, May 28, and he has 12 hits (three home runs, five doubles and five singles) in his last 18 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Seager has been a beast at the plate in the minors this year and has continued his dominance of minor league pitching after his promotion. He should be stashed in all keeper and dynasty leagues. A September call-up in 2015 isn't out of the question, but he's unlikely to make a significant fantasy impact until 2016.

Dodgers | Corey Seager promoted to AAA

Fri, 01 May 2015 09:49:08 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Seager torched Double-A with a .375-5-15 line and has been spending time at third base. He is likely on the cusp of a callup at any time.

Dodgers | Corey Seager playing third

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 07:52:48 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager played his second game at third base in five days at Double-A Tulsa Monday, April 20. The team insists shortstop will remain his primary position.

Fantasy Tip: The team could be grooming the top prospect for a major league callup at third base. Seager is hitting .478 with two homers and 11 RBI in 11 games at Double-A. He needs to be owned in NL-only leagues, and he's worth watching in mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Corey Seager reassigned

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 22:17:09 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers reassigned SS Corey Seager to the minor league camp Wednesday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: Seager will have to wait a little while until he gets his crack in Los Angeles, but he is one of the top prospects in the game and owners in long-term fantasy leagues will obviously want him.

Dodgers | Corey Seager receiving rave reviews

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 13:07:17 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager continues to be praised by the team, and manager Don Mattingly compared the 20-year-old prospect to Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. and former batting champion John Olerud. Seager, a 6-4 shortstop, is the team's consensus No. 1 prospect and is also considered one of the top prospects in baseball. "With Corey, really, there's really nothing not to like," Mattingly said. "He looks comfortable in the box, he looks comfortable on the field, he looks comfortable with our guys. He seems to be handling everything about big league camp." However, Mattingly prefers not to have Seager going back and forth between the majors and minors, in fear it might hurt his development. Seager hit a walkoff double in the spring game Sunday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Seager is the younger brother of Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager. The younger Seager should be on the radar of keeper and dynasty league owners now, but he's unlikely to make a huge impact in the majors in 2015 with Jimmy Rollins around.

Dodgers | Corey Seager won't contribute next year

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 11:09:03 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager isn't expected to contribute at the major league level next year, according to general manager Farhan Zaidi. "The guys that we're looking at … we're comfortable if they're a good fit this year. I think we're going to value positional versatility too, guys that aren't only shortstops but can move around the infield and accommodate a Seager a year from now or whatever."

Dodgers | Cole Hamels to L.A. unlikely for now

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 18:57:23 -0800

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels to the Los Angeles Dodgers via trade is unlikely, at least for now. The Phillies want one of the top prospects from the Dodgers, either SS Corey Seager or OF Joc Pederson, according to major league sources. The Dodgers, rather than part with premium young talent and assume the remainder of Hamels' contract, can purchase a free-agent pitcher for a comparable price and give up no more than a draft pick.
