Astros | Lance McCullers fans 10 in win

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 21:03:50 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers allowed one run on four hits while walking four and striking out 10 over eight innings in a win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: McCullers has 90 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings to go along with a 3.33 ERA. Trouble with walks hurts his WHIP, but he should still be owned in all formats.

Astros | Lance McCullers mastering the curve

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 06:49:57 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers owns the highest K/9 (11.55) in the American League among pitchers with at least 60 innings. And of his 80 strikeouts, 66 have come with his curveball.

Fantasy Tip: McCullers has 209 strikeouts through 188 innings over the first 33 starts of his career, and he projects as a solid No. 3 starter for your virtual rotation going forward. His four wins are an underwhelming total, but with the Astros rounding into contending form, McCullers stands to finish the season strong. He's a nice buy-low candidate, especially in keeper/dynasty format.

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers threw a season-low four innings in a loss to the Oakland Athletics Saturday, July 9, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out six.

Fantasy Tip: Walks are a routine issue for McCullers, but his excellent strikeout stuff makes him worth owning in all formats.

Astros | Scott Feldman to start Tuesday

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:52:11 -0700

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman will make the spot start Tuesday, June 28, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in place of the injured SP Lance McCullers (finger).

Fantasy Tip: Feldman might be a decent low-end DFS play, as his price tag will be low and allow you to load up on high-priced offensive talent using a high-low strategy. His exposure might not be high, either, making him a nice play.

Astros | Lance McCullers scratched from start

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 17:43:56 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers (blister) has been scratched from his start Tuesday, June 28, due to the early development of a blister. SP/RP Scott Feldman will make the start in his place opposite the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: McCullers has already missed the majority of the campaign due to injury, so the team probably wants to be cautious with one of the key cogs in their starting rotation. Although the Angels have the second-fewest home runs in the American League, Feldman isn't an ideal streaming option due to his struggles earlier this season when he was in the rotation.

Astros | Lance McCullers effective again

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 15:16:56 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers recorded a no-decision in his start Wednesday, June 22, opposite the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings, yielding one run on six hits and three walks. He also struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: McCullers is really getting settled in again like he was last year, which is good to see after he missed the first month and change of 2016. Although he allowed more baserunners than fantasy owners would want to see, today's outing goes in the books as the fifth instance in eight tries this season in which he has given up two runs or less. McCullers appears to be trending up right now and is worth riding in many formats as a result.

Astros | Lance McCullers not fully stretched out

Thu, 12 May 2016 14:44:02 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers (shoulder) will not be on a strict pitch count for his start against the Boston Red Sox Friday, May 13, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Hinch did note McCullers is not built up enough to throw 110 pitches, though.

Fantasy Tip: It isn't out of the question to take a wait-and-see approach with McCullers in his 2016 debut, especially since he is facing a daunting opposing lineup. He is a must-own arm in all formats, though. McCullers returned a 3.22 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 through 22 starts as a rookie last season.
