Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman loses no-no bid

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 11:46:05 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman threw a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings before it was broken up on a single by Boston Red Sox OF Shane Victorino. He made it through seven innings, giving up that lone hit with two walks while striking out seven.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman has been a beast since moving to the rotation. His ERA on the season is now down to 3.21, and he'll surely be picked up in more mixed leagues after this showing.

Blue Jays | Scratch Marcus Stroman at Triple-A

Fri, 30 May 2014 14:06:45 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman was scratched from his start for Triple-A Buffalo Friday, May 30. There are no health issues, according to manager Gary Allenson, and the reasoning has not been made public. SP Esmil Rogers is starting in Stroman's place.

Fantasy Tip: Hmmmm ... is this a sign that he's either joining the big club? Perhaps, in a long shot, is he being shipped to the Chicago Cubs for Jeff Samardzija? Stay tuned for more.

Blue Jays | To focus on rental SP

Fri, 30 May 2014 10:56:57 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are more likely to focus on "rental" pitchers in a trade than Chicago Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija. Kansas City Royals SP James Shields is seen as the preference for the Blue Jays should he hit the trade market. The Jays would also likely have interest in Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano and Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel. The Jays haven't been involved in talks for Samardzija, but sources say the Cubs would want SP Drew Hutchison plus either SPs Aaron Sanchez or Marcus Stroman in return for Samardzija.

Blue Jays | Dustin McGowan to 'pen

Thu, 15 May 2014 13:07:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Dustin McGowan will be moved to the bullpen. SPs Marcus Stroman or Todd Redmond will take McGowan's spot in the starting rotation, according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman has tremendous upside in the rotation and should be scooped up in all leagues, if he isn't owned already.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman to pitch in relief for now

Thu, 08 May 2014 10:40:37 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman will stay in a relief role for now, but manager John Gibbons thinks he has what it takes to succeed as a starter eventually. "I think he could do either one," Gibbons said. "He looks really good in that 'pen down there. He could go anywhere from one to two to three to four innings down there if he really had to." Stroman will need to build his pitch count back up, though, if he's to be a realistic option for the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Stroman is definitely worth stashing for the long-term in very deep mixed leagues and AL-only universes in the event that he moves to the rotation.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman promoted

Sat, 03 May 2014 20:35:48 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays purchased the contract of P Marcus Stroman from Triple-A Buffalo Saturday, May 3. He will work out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in AL-only leagues, deeper mixed formats and long-term keeper leagues will want to stash Stroman immediately. He has tremendous upside, and with Brandon Morrow potentially out for the season, and Dustin McGowan and his propensity for injury, Stroman could be used in the rotation sooner rather than later.

Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman pitching well at Triple-A

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 00:12:03 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman didn't allow a hit in six shutout innings for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, who went on to beat the Louisville Bats 4-1 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo on Tuesday, April 29. Stroman struck out 10 batters over his six frames, and his only baserunner came with a first-inning walk. He was lifted after completing six innings, having thrown 80 pitches (56 of them for strikes).

Fantasy Tip: The team recently adjusted Stroman's pitching schedule so it coincided with starts made by SP Dustin McGowan, fueling speculation McGowan could be sent to the bullpen soon. Keep an eye on Stroman, who has done nothing to prevent a possible callup to the big leagues before Memorial Day.
