San Diego Padres SP Max Fried (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Wednesday, Aug. 20. Fried finished last season 6-7 with a 3.49 ERA in 23 starts. He was the team's first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 2012 draft.

San Diego Padres P Max Fried (forearm) is dealing with forearm soreness, and that continues to delay his assignment to one of the team's lower-level minor-league affiliates. He is the team's top pick in the 2012 draft. The team hopes to get Fried out to pitch sometime next month, perhaps with Class A Fort Wayne. "We will slow him down and make sure we knock out all the soreness before he throws again," general manager Josh Byrnes said.

San Diego Padres SP Max Fried (elbow) has been shut down from throwing for a "minimum of two weeks" with elbow soreness. The soreness is in the flexor-mass area of his left arm after doing long toss from 120 feet earlier this month. He had an MRI exam Feb. 11, but the results were "benign." Fried is one of the team's top left-handed arms and was ranked 43rd overall on MLB.com's prospect list this year.
