Twins | Manager praises Byron Buxton

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 15:34:19 -0800

Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor had praise for OF Byron Buxton at the team's fan festival, saying "our team is going to be really good when he's playing center field. We're going to give him a chance to win that job."

Fantasy Tip: Buxton will get every chance to win that job with OF Aaron Hicks no longer on the roster. Still, remember he hit .209 last year and temper your expectations accordingly on draft day.

Twins | Byron Buxton is ready

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 17:35:58 -0800

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is "ready to get out there and go" as he looks forward to taking over the everyday duties in center field with OF Aaron Hicks no longer on the team. "I worked hard this offseason and probably harder than I worked the last three," the 22-year-old said. "I feel like I have to go out there and prove myself and go out there and take it."

Fantasy Tip: It's good to hear Buxton sound so focused and determined heading into his first full season in the big leagues. His stats as a rookie did underwhelm, hitting .209/.250/.326 with just two home runs, six RBI and two steals in 46 games, but he's considered one of the top prospects in the sport for a reason. Definitely keep him on your radar on draft day.

Twins | Torii Hunter could be used as reserve

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 18:43:48 -0700

The Minnesota Twins remain interested in bringing OF/DH Torii Hunter back for the 2016 season, although he would likely be used in a reserve role, with OFs Aaron Hicks, Byron Buxton and Eddie Rosario expected to serve as the club's regular outfielders.

Fantasy Tip: The 40-year-old Hunter still hasn't decided if he will come back for his 20th season and a decision is unlikely to be made before next month. He hit .240 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs over 139 games in 2015, although he hit just .217 after the All-Star break. If he returns, Hunter would likely receive enough at-bats to still be of interest to fantasy owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Twins | Byron Buxton was rushed

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 09:52:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan admitted that OF Byron Buxton was rushed to the majors this year based on team need. Ryan said he would have like to have Buxton spend more time in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Does that mean Buxton will open the 2016 season in the minors? It remains to be seen, but the speedy outfielder remains one of the team's top youngsters. He hit only .209 (27-for-129) with 44 strikeouts in his first taste of MLB action. Buxton will come at a discount in fantasy drafts in the mid to later rounds.

Twins | Byron Buxton draws into lineup

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 11:41:20 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is starting in center field and is hitting ninth in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Aaron Hicks will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for those wanting to use Buxton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap), FantasyScore is not including any of the three early doubleheaders today. There's a good chance that Hicks ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is back in center field for the nightcap.

Twins | Byron Buxton draws in vs. Tigers

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:46:26 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is starting in center field and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Randy Wolf Sunday, Sept. 27. OF Eddie Rosario is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) owns oodles of upside, but his .197/.236/.265 slash line shouldn't be ignored. Still, it is an A+ matchup against Wolf ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) who has allowed a 5.64 EA through his past 215 1/3 innings. Buxton checks out as a potential flier for FantasyScore players.

Twins | Aaron Hicks has a seat

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 15:22:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Aaron Hicks is out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 19, with OF Byron Buxton hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is arguably the best prospect in baseball, but he's hitting just .200 and shouldn't be in your FantasyScore lineup against Garrett Richards.

Twins | Byron Buxton sitting vs. Angels

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 15:15:31 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) continues to be the odd-man out of the lineup Friday, and with the Twins chasing a playoff berth, he could be relegated to pinch-running duties and limited at-bats. He isn't worth a seasonal roster spot outside of keeper/dynasty leagues.

Twins | Byron Buxton odd-man out again

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 15:04:31 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is out of the lineup for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Despite being a top prospect for the Twins, Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) hasn't been able to get results at the major league level, and he's hitting just .200 (23-for-115) with no home runs, two RBI and two stolen bases for the Twinkies. You can't rely on him yet on FantasyScore, especially if he continues to lose playing time.

Twins | Byron Buxton draws out vs. Tigers

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 15:15:38 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is not in the starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: With a .514 OPS over 121 plate appearances this season, and the Twins eyeing the playoffs, Buxton ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) could begin seeing fewer starts down the stretch. Minnesota has been using a four-man rotation in the outfield, but unless Buxton shows more at the dish soon, he could be the odd-man out more frequently. His seasonal value is lowering.
