Twins | Byron Buxton showing rust

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 14:56:56 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton appears rusty and not where he was two years ago in terms of his swing, according to director of minor league operations Brad Steil. Buxton agrees, "I still haven't gotten my swing down pat yet, but I feel good at the plate. I feel good about my at-bats. It's helping me along the way. My swing is coming."

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Buxton's fantasy value largely depends on league format. In the majority of leagues, he is a player to watch and worth a speculative add if he out produces his surroundings after appears close to being recalled. He is a stash candidate in AL-only formats and cavernous mixed leagues, but don't be surprised if he only sees a September cup of coffee in the majors in 2015. Still, Buxton is one of the most coveted prospects in the minor leagues.

Twins | Byron Buxton visibly stronger

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 13:52:32 -0800

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton hit the gym hard in the offseason, and he's visibly bigger and stronger this spring. "I feel a lot stronger than I've ever been," Buxton said. "I haven't jumped on a scale, but I feel better than I have. I'm trying to stay out of the training room."

Fantasy Tip: More strength should go a long way to keep Buxton healthy in 2015 after an injury-riddled 2014 season that saw him begin the year as MLB.com's consensus No. 1 prospect. Buxton excites mainly because of his speed, but he should grow into his power eventually, and that could come as soon as this year if he is stronger. Don't reach for him in standard 12-team leagues, but he might be worth a late-round pick if you have enough bench spots to stash him for a possible call-up this summer.

Twins | Byron Buxton dealing with flu

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 13:40:41 -0800

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (flu) is downplaying the two days he has missed in camp with the flu. He was back in action Tuesday, March 3, and said he felt fine. Buxton missed 31 combined games between High-Single-A Fort Myers and Double-A New Britain in 2014 with various injuries. After dealing with that, he has a better grasp on how to keep his body healthy this year. Manager Paul Molitor doesn't seem concerned over the time Buxton has missed due to injuries in the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Before his injuries in 2014, Buxton was baseball's consensus No. 1 prospect. Speed is the biggest part of his game, but he should grow into his power stroke over time. Buxton will likely start at Class AA this year, but he could be up in the majors sometime this summer. Draft accordingly in standard mixed leagues.
