Philadelphia Phillies SP Tyler Cloyd allowed two runs on two hits over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, May 10, with three walks and four strikeouts. After the game, he was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. In a corresponding move, RP Justin De Fratus was recalled from Lehigh Valley.
Fantasy Tip: Because of several off days on the schedule, the Phillies will not need a fifth starter again until May 21, so the decision was made to add an extra bullpen arm for the time being. Cloyd would have been demoted regardless of how well he pitched Friday, but he is expected to return to the majors as soon as the Phils need another starter.

The Philadelphia Phillies optioned SP Joe Savery to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Thursday, May 9, to make room on the 25-man roster for SP Tyler Cloyd, who will make the start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, May 10.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Tyler Cloyd, who will take the rotation spot of SP Roy Halladay (shoulder) and start Friday, May 10, isn't guaranteed to stick around in the rotation for long, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. SP John Lannan (knee) is weeks away from returning and could be an option to replace Cloyd. The Phillies will also consider arms outside the organization.
Fantasy Tip: Neither Cloyd nor Lannan are very intriguing options for fantasy baseball purposes, but they carry enough value with a rotation spot to be considered in NL-only leagues. Lannan obviously has more major league experience, so expect Philly to give him a spot when he's healthy, unless Cloyd has earned to stay in the role or the team acquires a pitcher from outside the organization.

The Philadelphia Phillies will recall SP Tyler Cloyd from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Friday, May 10, against the Arizona Diamondbacks to start in place of the injured SP Roy Halladay (shoulder).
Mon, 06 May 2013 16:49:45 -0700
Philadelphia Phillies SP Jesse Biddle is not an option to take SP Roy Halladay's (shoulder) spot in the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Tyler Cloyd or Ethan Martin are the realistic options to take the rotation spot, which needs to be filled for Friday. Both of these options should only be considered in NL leagues, for now.

The Philadelphia Phillies placed SP Roy Halladay (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation Monday, May 6, and recalled SP Joe Savery from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Halladay admitted he was having shoulder problems after being embarrassed by the Miami Marlins Sunday. The former Cy Young winner had a stretch of three starts where he looked as though he was figuring some things out, but after his latest disaster and now this trip to the DL, we have to seriously wonder if he'll ever be able to pull things together for stretches this season. Halladay's body has not allowed him reinvent himself with his new limitations considered. He has minimal value in mixed leagues now that he's injured.
Savery will be used out of the bullpen. Tyler Cloyd or Ethan Martin makes the most sense to be called up and take Halladay's place in the starting rotation if you're searching for pitching in NL-only leagues.

The Philadelphia Phillies reassigned P Tyler Cloyd, P B.J. Rosenberg, P Mauricio Robles, OF Tyson Gillies and C Sebastian Valle to minor league camp.

Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said the bullpen competition is about to heat up. RP Phillippe Aumont is really the only pitcher that may have jumped ahead of the competition, with RPs Jeremy Horst, Raul Valdes, Justin De Fratus, Michael Stutes and Jake Diekman battling for the other two spots. Ps Tyler Cloyd (forearm) and B.J. Rosenberg (triceps) threw bullpens Thursday, March 7, and are close to game action.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick used to be plucked from the bullpen and plugged into the starting rotation if injuries struck, but now he is cemented as the team's fourth starter. Pitching coach Rich Dubee will use spring training to formulate his depth chart and find the next potential replacement if trouble strikes. The team signed veteran Ps Aaron Cook and Rodrigo Lopez to minor-league deals, and they represent the sort of Triple-A depth a team requires. Ps Tyler Cloyd, Ethan Martin, Adam Morgan and Jonathan Pettibone might also get a chance to move up the depth chart.

Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said SP Tyler Cloyd will have a shot in spring training to win a post in the starting rotation. That's if the team doesn't sign an established starter in free agency this winter, though.
