Astros | Carlos Correa not ready

Fri, 01 May 2015 08:55:30 -0700

Houston Astros SS prospect Carlos Correa, who is batting .385 with five home runs and 22 RBI at Double-A Corpus Christi, needs more seasoning before coming up to the major leagues, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. "Carlos is getting close, but he's had 70 at-bats above A-ball, so we'd like to see more," Luhnow said.

Fantasy Tip: Correa is the team's top minor league prospect and is probably already owned in all keeper and deep NL-only leagues. However, he broke his leg last year and needs more time in the minors, especially since he hasn't even appeared at Class AAA. With Jed Lowrie out and the Astros playing great ball, there's no need for Houston to rush him up. Marwin Gonzalez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will hold down the fort at the 6 for now, and he's a low-end flyer at FantasyScore in the right matchups.

Astros | Carlos Correa on fire

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 07:05:15 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa is hitting .400 with five homers and 22 RBI in 70 at-bats at Double-A Corpus Christi.

Fantasy Tip: The team has every reason to be patient with the 20-year-old Correa. However, Jed Lowrie (thumb) is out until the All-Star break and it's not out of the question that his arrival date could be expedited. Keep him on your watch list in deeper leagues.

Astros | Carlos Correa hits 5th home run

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:36:53 -0700

Houston Astros SS prospect Carlos Correa hit his fifth home run Tuesday, April 28, while playing for Double A Corpus Christi. Correa also doubled and drew two walks.

Fantasy Tip: Correa is now hitting .400/.468/.800 for Corpus Christi. The Astros insist they'll be patient with the top prospect, but he's certainly making it difficult for them to keep him in the minor leagues with his hot start. Owners in AL-only, deeper mixed leagues or keeper leagues can go ahead and stash Correa now.

Astros | Carlos Correa unlikely to come up

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 09:57:33 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa is unlikely to be promoted to the major leagues if SS Jed Lowrie (thumb) lands on the disabled list, in the opinion of MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

Fantasy Tip: Correa is hitting .382 with four home runs and 21 RBI in just 16 games with Double-A Corpus Christi this year, and he's the team's top prospect in the minors. The Astros want to be patient with him and likely expose him to Class AAA before calling him up, though. However, he should already be stashed in all AL-only leagues, and you may want to consider stashing him right now in deep mixed leagues if he's available.

Astros | Carlos Correa on fire in minors

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:36:35 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa has homered in back-to-back games in the minors and is hitting .375 with 10 doubles, four home runs, 19 RBI and a 1.147 OPS in 15 games this year.

Fantasy Tip: Correa is one of Houston's biggest prospects in the minros, and he could see a call up to the big leagues at some point this season. However, with Jed Lowrie ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) swinging a hot stick in the early going, the need for him is low right now. Regardless, Correa should be owned in all NL-only leagues, and deep mixed owners may want to consider stashing him before long.

Astros | Carlos Correa sent down

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 14:42:31 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa was sent down to Double-A Corpus Christi in a round of cuts made on Sunday, March 29.

Fantasy Tip: Correa was a former No. 1 draft pick who lost some significant time last year with injuries. If he can be stashed in a deep AL league he might be worth an end-of-draft pickup.

Astros | Carlos Correa to work on baserunning

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 15:28:32 -0800

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa (ankle) said he wants to work on his baserunning this spring and sliding into bases, which he hasn't done since breaking his right ankle sliding into third base in the minors last summer. Correa will slide head-first while stealing bases but will still go feet first to break up double plays. Correa is unlikely to make his major league debut in 2015, and he'll likely start the year at Double-A Corpus Christi.

Fantasy Tip: Correa provides excellent speed and power at a very scarce position. He won't be relevant in single-year formats in 2015, but he's most definitely a strong option for keeper and dynasty formats.

Astros | Carlos Correa making progress

Wed, 03 Sep 2014 20:22:06 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa (leg) is progressing so well that he is able to run and take some ground balls while working out at the team's spring training facility in Kissimmee, Fla. "It's a very good sign, where we feel like we're ahead of plan, which is a good place to be," general manager Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday, Sept. 3. Luhnow said Correa is expected to be healthy enough to play in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
