Royals | Yordano Ventura goes seven strong

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 13:22:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura settled for a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, July 17, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out six over seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: The first run Ventura gave up was on a balk in the third inning, while the second came on a wild pitch in the sixth. Sunday's outing was his second solid one since getting blasted for 11 runs in eight frames over his previous two starts combined. Still, 2016 has been a disappointing one for Ventura, who should probably be benched in mixed leagues when he faces the Texas Rangers at home on Saturday.

Royals | Yordano Ventura suffers loss

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 06:16:51 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings against the Seattle Mariners Friday, July 8, to suffer his seventh loss of the season. He struck out five batters and walked one during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura has allowed 14 runs in his last three starts and currently has a 5.15 ERA. He should still be used in AL-only leagues, but owners in mixed leagues likely can find better options to use for their starting lineups.

Royals | Yordano Ventura leaves game early

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 14:33:13 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura (ankle) left the game early Sunday, July 3, because of a sprained ankle. Ventura said after the game that the ankle is feeling better but is not sure if he will be able to make his next start.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation over the next week to see if Ventura will be able to make his next start. He is scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners in his next start but is not a great fantasy option since he has a 5.26 ERA.

Royals | Yordano Ventura gets tuned up

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 22:22:55 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura allowed seven earned runs, seven hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings in a loss Tuesday, June 28, against the St. Louis Cardinals to slip to 6-5 while his ERA ballooned to 5.00. He threw just 58 of his 98 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura has allowed six or more earned runs in three of his past six starts, while he has quality starts in the other three outings. It's hit or miss with Ventura, and it's hard for fantasy owners to plan whether they'll get good Yordano or bad Yordano.

Royals | Yordano Ventura reinstated

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 08:59:17 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura was reinstated from his league suspension Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura has had an up-and-down season but has been much better the last month. Aside from a six-run game June 7, he's allowed one run or less in three of his last four outings. However, with an overall ERA of 4.54 and WHIP of 1.42, it's hard to trust Ventura on a start-to-start basis. His 4.1 BB/9 is hard to stomach for owners in seasonal leagues. He's a risk-reward start based on matchups.

Royals | Yordano Ventura begins serving ban

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 06:06:09 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura began serving his eight-game suspension Saturday, June 18, for his role in an on-field fight during a game against the Baltimore Orioles June 7. He will miss his next scheduled start and is eligible to return versus the St. Louis Cardinals June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Since the brawl, Ventura is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA over 13 innings, with one walk and 15 strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander is worth using in all fantasy formats once he's able to return to the mound Friday.

Royals | Yordano Ventura locks down Tigers

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 21:51:31 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura allowed no runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers on Friday, June 17. He walked none and stuck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Coming off his best start of the season, Ventura one-upped himself by not allowing a run for the first time all year. Ever since he and Manny Machado threw down, Ventura has pitched 13 1/3 innings and allowed one run, 11 hits and one walk while racking up 15 K's. It's time for those in standard mixed leagues to think about giving him another chance.

Royals | Yordano Ventura fans season-high 10

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 15:36:43 -0700

Kansas City SP Yordano Ventura enjoyed his finest start of the season on Sunday, June 12, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out 10 across seven frames to pick up the win against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: With the decision expected soon on his appeal of a nine-game suspension for throwing at Manny Machado last week, Ventura gave up a home run to Jose Abreu but mostly plowed through a punchless Chicago lineup after going 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA over his previous four starts. However, the 25-year-old's next start is up in the air since he is unlikely to see much of a reduction in his suspension.

Royals | Yordano Ventura suspended nine games

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 14:50:46 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura has been suspended by Major League Baseball for nine games.

Fantasy Tip: He's also appealing, so it's possible this suspension gets trimmed by a game or two. At the very least, he'll miss at least one start. Ventura was clearly in the wrong, having been criticized around the league for intentionally throwing at Manny Machado, and the suspension likely fits the crime. Of course, his fantasy owners aren't exactly rushing him back, as the flame-throwing right-hander sports an ugly 5.32 ERA and 1.53 WHIP thus far through 12 starts. Dillon Gee will be his likely replacement, but isn't worth adding in most leagues at this point.

Royals | Yordano Ventura wasn't on trade block?

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 14:57:30 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura was not involved in trade negotiations within the past month, according to sources. General manager Dayton Moore would not comment on the rumors that Ventura was on the trade block.

"It's highly inappropriate and reckless to discuss any specific trade talks about players with the media," Moore said Wednesday, June 8. "Any discussions along those lines will remain with our baseball operations people. I will not discuss it."

Fantasy Tip: Ventura owns a 5.32 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP and a 6.0 K/9 this season, which makes him unworthy of a roster spot in the majority of seasonal leagues. Plus, Ventura likely has a suspension looming over his head after the on-field incident against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, June 7.
