Royals | Yordano Ventura to be No. 3 starter

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 10:09:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said SP Yordano Ventura will be the team's No. 3 starter behind SPs James Shields and Jason Vargas to open the season. Ventura struck out six in six innings Monday, March 17. SP Danny Duffy will now be given a chance to win a spot in the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura, despite his size, has an electric arm that can touch triple digits. His strikeout upside is extremely high, but he'll have to be consistent with his secondary offerings to survive in the bigs. Now that he's got a firm rotation spot, his inflated draft value seems more justified.

Royals | Yordano Ventura headed for rotation

Mon, 17 Mar 2014 20:49:33 -0700

According to a source, the Kansas City Royals are likely to name SP Yordano Ventura to their starting rotation as early as this week. Ventura has been dominant during Cactus League spring play.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura is worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats for his help in the strikeouts category.

Royals | Yordano Ventura impressing with heater

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 15:54:09 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura touched 101 mph three times during his impressive outing Wednesday, March 12, striking out six and walking none in 4 1/3 innings. "He keeps getting better.. He settled in real well and dominated. Hard not to see him making the club," one scout in attendance said. General manager Dayton Moore won't commit to Ventura being in the starting rotation, however.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura has electric stuff and is quickly becoming a fantasy baseball darling, even though he has yet to lock down a rotation spot. Be careful not to overvalue him; there's a chance the Royals keep him in the bullpen to start or have him go back to the minors to work on his control and secondary offerings.

Royals | Yordano Ventura might be innings eater

Mon, 10 Feb 2014 18:33:06 -0800

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Monday, Feb. 10, that SP Yordano Ventura can throw 200 innings this year.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura could emerge as a very useful fantasy option in AL-only leagues, and he could even be valuable as a flier in deep mixed leagues if he wins a starting spot out of spring training, which is entirely possible.

Royals | Expect Yordano Ventura to make roster

Sat, 08 Feb 2014 09:42:42 -0800

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore said SPs James Shields, Jason Vargas, Jeremy Guthrie and Bruce Chen are penciled into the rotation to start the year. Moore suggested that SP Yordano Ventura may have a leg up on the competition for the fifth and final rotation spot this spring. Moore also said they won't hesitate to use Ventura in the bullpen "if that's how it unfolds." "We think he's ready for the major leagues. Certainly spring training will help validate that opinion," Moore said, adding, "We expect him to be one of our 12 pitchers when we break camp unless something unforeseen happens." Ps Luke Hochevar, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy and Chris Dwyer are all a notch behind Ventura heading into spring training.

Royals | Yordano Ventura to start Tuesday

Mon, 16 Sep 2013 15:18:22 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura will make his major league debut and start against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, Sept. 17, taking the place of SP Danny Duffy (elbow). Ventura went 5-4 with a 3.74 ERA with Triple-A Omaha this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura is one of the team's top pitching prospects with an electric arm; his fastball can reach the upper 90s on occasion. He has high strikeout upside but might be rough around the edges in his first taste of MLB action. It wouldn't be wise to rely on him this late in a mixed league.
