Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden has been working with former NFL quarterback Chris Weinke this offseason, and Weinke is impressed with what he sees. "Brandon's got a special arm, no doubt," said Weinke, the former Heisman winner and Panthers quarterback. "I'm very impressed with him. I'm excited to see how he continues to develop and I think the future is bright for Brandon Weeden."

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke won for the first time in five year Week 16 when the Panthers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 10-3. Weinke ended a personal losing streak of 17 games and earned his first win since Sept. 9, 2001. Weinke was 4-of-7 for 32 yards with one touchdown. Weinke's losing streak was the second-longest in NFL history. Houston Oilers QB Dan Pastorini lost 21 straight games from 1972-74.

The Associated Press reports the Carolina Panthers lost 37-3 to the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 15. The Panthers, who are now 6-8, have lost four consecutive games and their chances at a postseason berth are fading. QB Chris Weinke was 18-of-28 for 170 yards with one interception against the Steelers. He was also sacked five times during the game and is now 1-16 as a starter.

Weinke threw three second-half interceptions as the Panthers lost their third consecutive game Week 14 and fell to 6-7 on the season. Weinke was 34-of-61 with one touchdown as the Panthers lost 27-13 to the New York Giants.

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers backup QB Chris Weinke is quite comfortable returning to back up QB Jake Delhomme for a fourth straight season. Weinke had a chance this offseason to sign elsewhere, but he decided to stay with the Panthers. "There was a lot of talk out there. Teams were like, 'Hey, we'll bring you in and give you a chance,'" Weinke said. "But you don't know. I've seen it too many times where it doesn't work out for guys. The grass isn't always greener on the other side." Weinke insisted he's happy where he is at. The Panthers are thrilled they won't have to train a replacement for such a crucial position.

There may not be the clean shot at a starting job he's hoping for. If he's going to be a backup, it's been made clear the Panthers would love to have him back.

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke is starting to settle in as the team's No.2 quarterback. "This coaching staff has seen what I am capable of doing," Weinke said Wednesday, June 1 the first day of Carolina's summer school program. "If they didn't think I was capable, then I wouldn't be here regardless if I am the No. 2 guy, the No. 3 guy or on the bubble. If they didn't think I was (capable), then I would have been gone a long time ago." Weinke feels he is ready to be the guy to step in should QB Jake Delhomme miss any time due to injury. One thing Weinke has not given up on is being a starting NFL quarterback. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to start in this league, so who knows what is going to happen?" he said. "I've got the confidence in myself to be able to think I can start in this league and my career is far from over."
