Chargers | Griff Whalen learning on the fly

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 21:34:24 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Griff Whalen, signed this week, is utilizing flash cards to learn the offense and get ready for the Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Whalen is the No. 4 receiver in the San Diego offense, so he might not see much in the way of fantasy appeal in the coming weeks. But if injuries continue to rear their ugly head in San Diego, he could see a larger role in the near future.

Dolphins | Griff Whalen on roster bubble

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 17:44:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR Griff Whalen has not done anything to cement the need for the team to carry a sixth wide receiver, especially if they have to go into the regular season with three quarterbacks and three centers.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins are pretty set with their depth at receiver, so even if Whalen does make the team, he wouldn't be in a position to contribute right away from a fantasy perspective. That's a shame, as Whalen displayed notable potential as a rookie a couple of seasons ago, including in the playoffs when he hauled in five catches in the AFC Divisional Round opposite New England. The former Indianapolis Colt has since established himself as an above-average special-teamer.

Dolphins | Two receivers may not make team

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 13:26:19 -0700

Miami Dolphins rookie WR Jakeem Grant's impressive offseason may put WRs Griff Whalen and Matt Hazel in jeopardy for a roster spot, according to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. Grant would serve as Miami's No. 5 wide receiver, and the Dolphins may not necessarily feel obliged to keep more than five receivers.

Dolphins | Griff Whalen to be No. 4 WR?

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 20:12:52 -0700

The Miami Dolphins are looking at WR Griff Whalen as an under-the-radar guy with a legitimate chance at winning the No. 4 receiver job. The staff really likes him, although other competition is likely to be added.

Fantasy Tip: Whalen is important on special teams, too, and it's hard to imagine he will not have some kind of meaningful role in Miami. However, as a fantasy receiver he is only worth a look in the very deepest of seasonal formats.
