Sun, 15 Dec 2013 00:58:41 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris hasn't had as many as 15 carries or more than 52 yards rushing the last three weeks. The Atlanta Falcons, this week's opponent, rank 30th in the NFL against the run but held Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy to 64 yards on 20 carries last week.
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 10:07:35 -0800
New York Giants LB Jon Beason said the team's game plan for Week 13 was to stop Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris, and not QB Robert Griffin III. "We thought going into the game the bellcow was Alfred Morris," Beason said. "You look at when he has a big game vs. when he doesn't have a big game, even when RG3 has a big game, they don't do too well. He's the guy that makes them go."
Fri, 15 Nov 2013 20:06:21 -0800
Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Friday, Nov. 15, that he is uncertain why RB Alfred Morris does not get more attention. "It's only his second time in the league. It's not like he was a big hyped guy coming out of college, so I don't think people started to even know his name until probably halfway through the year last year," Shanahan said. "But he's a good player so more and more people are noticing him and he doesn't draw attention to himself so he doesn't get any extra attention that way."
Fri, 11 Oct 2013 14:21:22 -0700
The Washington Redskins remain committed to RB Alfred Morris and the running game, despite the fact that they are averaging only 22.25 running plays per game compared to 32.43 last season. Morris' 5.3 yards per carry in 2013 are higher than his first four games last season, but he's only averaging 14 carries per contest, and his 296 rushing yards ranks him as tied for 16th in the league. Two blowout losses forced the 'Skins to abandon the running game early. "We believe in the running game," head coach Mike Shanahan said.
"We always believe we're going to have a great game plan, and usually teams that can run the football have a lot of success. We always have that philosophy and hopefully this week, we can get back to where we've been running the football, and play-action game and those types of things." RB Roy Helu took over when Morris was injured in Week 4 and had 13 carries for 41 yards. Morris' ribs are "a little" sore, but he expects to play in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys could present a nice opportunity for the 'Skins to get the ground game moving in the right direction if the passing game can keep Dallas back on their heels enough to open some running lanes. Morris is a good play. Helu could also see enough work but is more of a handcuff option for Morris owners.
Fri, 11 Oct 2013 14:10:10 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (ribs) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 11, and is probable for Week 6.
Fantasy Tip: You're in the clear to start Morris with confidence in a nice matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The 'Skins shouldn't have much trouble moving the ball through the air, which should open up some holes on the ground for Morris.

Mon, 07 Oct 2013 10:30:13 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (ribs) was participating in practice Monday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: It is a good sign for Morris owners that he is back on the practice field. At this point, short of a setback, plan on using him as you normally would in Week 6.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Sunday, Sept. 29, that nothing is broken for RB Alfred Morris (ribs), after the tailback left the game due to a rib contusion. He said Morris is sore, but the severity of the pain is not yet known.
Fantasy Tip: If you normally depend upon Morris in your fantasy lineup, it might be a good idea to scoop up Roy Helu just in case.
Sun, 29 Sep 2013 15:28:00 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (ribs) was taken to the locker room during the third quarter of the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders. The initial diagnosis was a rib contusion, but he will obviously undergo further testing.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 14:23:57 -0700
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said the team hasn't used much of their read zone offense this year because they have fallen behind quickly in the first half in their first two games of the season. QB Robert Griffin III isn't being limited after having offseason knee surgery. The team has run the zone read option five times in two games, with RB Alfred Morris running it each time. Griffin has nine runs on the year, scrambling six times. "If teams will give us the QB runs then we'll take it," Griffin said. "If they're not giving it to us, then we can't just run those plays." Griffin has seen that teams are taking away the zone read option by positioning their ends and safeties differently than a year ago.
Fantasy Tip: The Redskins are off to a slow start offensively, and although Griffin has looked rusty, he's been healthy. Expect him to shake off the rust, although we don't expect him to run nearly as much as a season ago. This should bode well for the team's receivers.
Mon, 09 Sep 2013 21:36:21 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris lost a fumble on his first carry of the season in the Week 1 game Monday, Sept. 9, against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also mishandled a pitch from QB Robert Griffin III on the sixth play of the game which led to a safety. Fri, 12 Jul 2013 09:47:52 -0700
The Washington Redskins are sorting out their RB depth chart. Roy Helu seems like the best fit for changeup work, and he has improved in his pass protection. Evan Royster will have to be beaten out for his roster spot. Rookie Chris Thompson (knee) would be a solid fit for triple-option reads and third-down plays, as well, but he needs to heal following a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Plus, he needs to gain experience in picking up blitzes. Jawan Jamison, another first-year player, looks to be more in the mold of Royster.
Fantasy Tip: Royster seems like he'd be the best fill-in for Alfred Morris as the main back, but Helu will be the likeliest to have an every-week role if everyone is healthy. But with Mike Shanahan running things, you can't cement a hierarchy.
Sat, 06 Jul 2013 15:40:49 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris said he is feeling more comfortable entering this season than he was last season. "Last year, I was going in there like a lost little puppy," Morris said. "This year, having had that experience and gaining that knowledge of last year, I'm a lot more confident and more comfortable. The more comfortable you get with it, the better you can go out there and do it. It eliminates the thinking process. You can go out there and have some fun."
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 19:06:24 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (knee) remains more than a month away from receiving full clearance to return to action. The fifth-round pick from Florida State is expected to contend for a spot behind RB Alfred Morris, and the training staff feels he will be ready to participate fully when the team opens training camp July 25.
Fantasy Tip: Morris had plenty of question marks last year, and he came out of nowhere last season to seize the No. 1 job. Thompson might not necessarily do that, but head coach Mike Shanahan has a knack for cultivating quality running backs with low draft picks, so Thompson could be one to watch. Take a wait-and-see approach with Thompson, who could be worth a late-round flier on draft day if he has a strong training camp and preseason.
Thu, 30 May 2013 16:02:16 -0700
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RB Alfred Morris has impressed him with his mindset following his stellar rookie season. Morris gained 10 pounds but has already lost five and has kept up good shape so far.
Fantasy Tip: Morris, regardless of Robert Griffin III's (knee) health, should post low-end RB1 numbers more often than not this season, which makes him a steady second-round selection.
Sun, 19 May 2013 18:32:41 -0700
The Washington Redskins have seven running backs on the roster right now, with only RB Alfred Morris guaranteed of a job in Washington this season. Based on the current roster, it appears RB Evan Royster will be battling Jawan Jamison, and RB Roy Helu Jr. will be battling Chris Thompson for the two running back spots behind Morris.
Wed, 15 May 2013 11:04:50 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris wants to be more patient running the football in 2013, after feeling that he left a lot of yards on the field in 2012. "I left a lot of yards on the field last year," Morris said. Looking back on film, a lot of it was my aiming points in certain runs, or I was too tight and I couldn't get outside. Being more patient with my cutbacks — I tended to cut back too soon. I was blessed, and I definitely don't take it for granted. Last year's behind me — I'm beyond that."
Fantasy Tip: It is a good sign that Morris has studied the film and is learning how to improve moving forward. If he can accomplish being more patient on the field, then he may improve on the 1,600 yards he ran in 2012.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 11:33:56 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris said he does not expect to deal with a sophomore slump next season because he is working out hard this offseason to improve his all areas in his game. "I set the bar very high, I love a challenge. If you give me easy, I don't want easy, I want hard, I don't care. A sophomore slump? I don't see it happening. I'm going to bust my butt this offseason. I've got to get better. I can't be satisfied with a year when, as a lot of people say, you're only as good as your last performance. I love what I do and I have fun doing it and I want to do it as long as possible and being complacent won't help me. It's time to set the bar even higher next year," Morris said. Morris has been working on improving his strength and flexibility.
Fantasy Tip: Morris came out of nowhere to become one of the better running backs in the NFL this season. Morris will be an every-week starter for fantasy teams in 2013 and could see more carries early in the season if Robert Griffin III (knee) is not ready to play, but there are concerns Morris could be bottled up if Griffin is not on the field.

Sun, 30 Dec 2012 22:20:46 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris ran for 200 yards and he scored three touchdowns in the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He finished his rookie regular season with 1,613 yards, the most by a first-year player since Los Angeles Rams RB Eric Dickerson in 1983 (1,808). He also set the single-season franchise record for rushing yards, passing former RB Clinton Portis.
Fantasy Tip: The sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic University will be a popular pick in postseason fantasy pools, even though he faces a fairly difficult matchup in the NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 6.
Wed, 26 Dec 2012 14:41:19 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is 104 yards shy of setting the single-season franchise rushing record after running for 91 yards on 22 carries in Week 16. Morris has run for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 49 carries in the absence of QB Robert Griffin III (knee) recently.
Sat, 22 Dec 2012 08:10:24 -0800
Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has gained most of his yards this season after contact. He has 909 yards after contact. The closest in that category are Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (572) and Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (543).

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 23 times for 122 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He did not have any receptions, and he lost a fumble.
Fantasy Tip: Morris has run for 113 or more yards in each of the past three games, and he has managed six 100-yard rushing yards this season. After failing to score in four straight games from Week 7 through 11, he has found the end zone twice in the past three outings. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into a favorable matchup in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fri, 07 Dec 2012 18:21:07 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is the fifth rookie running back under head coach Mike Shanahan to run for more than 1,000 yards. Morris currently sits with 1,106 yards, and he joins former Denver Broncos RBs Mike Anderson, Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary and Clinton Portis in the club.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 21:31:59 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 22 times for 124 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Giants Monday, Dec. 3. It wasn't all great, as he lost a fumble.
Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Florida Atlantic University has hit the century mark in back-to-back games, and he has gone over 100 rushing yards five times this season. While he has only one rushing score over the past six games, he remains a solid low-end RB1 or must-start RB2 in all fantasy formats.
Thu, 22 Nov 2012 19:34:46 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 24 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 win against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Nov. 22.
Fantasy Tip: Morris is certainly not a secret in fantasy anymore, but casual fans might have been getting their first look at Washington's rookie out of Florida Atlantic University. He remains a must-start in all formats despite some mediocre numbers earlier in the month.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 12:55:04 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (shoulder) said he has no lingering issues from the shoulder stinger he suffered in Week 9.
Sun, 04 Nov 2012 18:01:03 -0800
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 13 times for a game-high 76 yards in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. Fellow RB Evan Royster had four carries for just six yards, but he was able to score a rushing touchdown.
Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Florida Atlantic University has now failed to score a touchdown in three straight games for the first time in his career. Despite the lack of scoring, he remains the top back in Washington and should be treated as a solid RB2 or 'flex' play heading into Week 10.
Sun, 28 Oct 2012 13:17:06 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 13 times for 59 yards in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he did not have any receptions.
Fantasy Tip: The yardage total was his second lowest of the season, and this marks for the first time all year Morris has failed to find the end zone in back-to-back games. Don't be impatient, however, as a big game might be just around the corner in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers, a team with a very leaky rushing defense.

Sun, 14 Oct 2012 21:40:32 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 16 times for 47 yards and a score in the Week 6 win against the Minnesota Vikings. He also added nine yards on his only reception of the game.
Fantasy Tip: The Florida Atlantic University product has scored in three of his past four games, and he has five rushing touchdowns on the season. In fact, between Morris and QB Robert Griffin III, all 11 of the team's rushing scores have been accomplished by rookies. Morris has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues, and is a nice play heading into Week 7 against the New York Giants.
Sun, 07 Oct 2012 14:41:14 -0700

Mon, 01 Oct 2012 19:43:06 -0700
Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is having a tremendous rookie season, posting 376 rushing yards and four scores over his first four games. He came from a Florida Atlantic University team which went 1-11 last year, and the scouting report on him was he was an unspectacular, straight-ahead runner who might even be better suited to play fullback. However, head coach Mike Shanahan saw a young man who ran exactly the way he wants his running backs to run - one cut and get up the field.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 12:12:32 -0700
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan praised RB Alfred Morris after the team's Week 4 game. Shanahan said Morris is improving quickly despite being a rookie. "He never makes the same mistake twice," Shanahan said.

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 17 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fantasy Tip: Morris has scored three touchdowns through his first three NFL games, but he should still be considered more of an RB2 or 'flex' player heading into Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
