Sun, 19 May 2013 18:32:41 -0700 The Washington Redskins have seven running backs on the roster right now, with only RB Alfred Morris guaranteed of a job in Washington this season. Based on the current roster, it appears RB Evan Royster will be battling Jawan Jamison, and RB Roy Helu Jr. will be battling Chris Thompson for the two running back spots behind Morris.
Wed, 15 May 2013 11:04:50 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris wants to be more patient running the football in 2013, after feeling that he left a lot of yards on the field in 2012. "I left a lot of yards on the field last year," Morris said. Looking back on film, a lot of it was my aiming points in certain runs, or I was too tight and I couldn't get outside. Being more patient with my cutbacks — I tended to cut back too soon. I was blessed, and I definitely don't take it for granted. Last year's behind me — I'm beyond that." Fantasy Tip: It is a good sign that Morris has studied the film and is learning how to improve moving forward. If he can accomplish being more patient on the field, then he may improve on the 1,600 yards he ran in 2012.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 11:33:56 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris said he does not expect to deal with a sophomore slump next season because he is working out hard this offseason to improve his all areas in his game. "I set the bar very high, I love a challenge. If you give me easy, I don't want easy, I want hard, I don't care. A sophomore slump? I don't see it happening. I'm going to bust my butt this offseason. I've got to get better. I can't be satisfied with a year when, as a lot of people say, you're only as good as your last performance. I love what I do and I have fun doing it and I want to do it as long as possible and being complacent won't help me. It's time to set the bar even higher next year," Morris said. Morris has been working on improving his strength and flexibility. Fantasy Tip: Morris came out of nowhere to become one of the better running backs in the NFL this season. Morris will be an every-week starter for fantasy teams in 2013 and could see more carries early in the season if Robert Griffin III (knee) is not ready to play, but there are concerns Morris could be bottled up if Griffin is not on the field.
Wed, 02 Jan 2013 06:48:21 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17.
Mon, 31 Dec 2012 03:54:37 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris became the first player in Week 17 to ever run for 200 yards and score three touchdowns in a game against the Dallas Cowboys, and the sixth rookie to do so since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
Sun, 30 Dec 2012 22:20:46 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris ran for 200 yards and he scored three touchdowns in the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He finished his rookie regular season with 1,613 yards, the most by a first-year player since Los Angeles Rams RB Eric Dickerson in 1983 (1,808). He also set the single-season franchise record for rushing yards, passing former RB Clinton Portis. Fantasy Tip: The sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic University will be a popular pick in postseason fantasy pools, even though he faces a fairly difficult matchup in the NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 6.
Wed, 26 Dec 2012 14:41:19 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is 104 yards shy of setting the single-season franchise rushing record after running for 91 yards on 22 carries in Week 16. Morris has run for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 49 carries in the absence of QB Robert Griffin III (knee) recently.
Sat, 22 Dec 2012 08:10:24 -0800 Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has gained most of his yards this season after contact. He has 909 yards after contact. The closest in that category are Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (572) and Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (543).
Sun, 16 Dec 2012 14:36:10 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns in 27 carries in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fri, 14 Dec 2012 12:36:26 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (illness) was limited in practice Friday, Dec. 14, and is probable for Week 15.
Sun, 09 Dec 2012 21:50:39 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 23 times for 122 yards and a touchdown in the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He did not have any receptions, and he lost a fumble. Fantasy Tip: Morris has run for 113 or more yards in each of the past three games, and he has managed six 100-yard rushing yards this season. After failing to score in four straight games from Week 7 through 11, he has found the end zone twice in the past three outings. He remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues heading into a favorable matchup in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fri, 07 Dec 2012 18:21:07 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is the fifth rookie running back under head coach Mike Shanahan to run for more than 1,000 yards. Morris currently sits with 1,106 yards, and he joins former Denver Broncos RBs Mike Anderson, Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary and Clinton Portis in the club.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 21:31:59 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 22 times for 124 yards in the Week 13 game against the New York Giants Monday, Dec. 3. It wasn't all great, as he lost a fumble. Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Florida Atlantic University has hit the century mark in back-to-back games, and he has gone over 100 rushing yards five times this season. While he has only one rushing score over the past six games, he remains a solid low-end RB1 or must-start RB2 in all fantasy formats.
Thu, 22 Nov 2012 19:34:46 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 24 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 win against the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Nov. 22. Fantasy Tip: Morris is certainly not a secret in fantasy anymore, but casual fans might have been getting their first look at Washington's rookie out of Florida Atlantic University. He remains a must-start in all formats despite some mediocre numbers earlier in the month.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 12:55:04 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris (shoulder) said he has no lingering issues from the shoulder stinger he suffered in Week 9.
Sun, 04 Nov 2012 18:01:03 -0800 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 13 times for a game-high 76 yards in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. Fellow RB Evan Royster had four carries for just six yards, but he was able to score a rushing touchdown. Fantasy Tip: The rookie out of Florida Atlantic University has now failed to score a touchdown in three straight games for the first time in his career. Despite the lack of scoring, he remains the top back in Washington and should be treated as a solid RB2 or 'flex' play heading into Week 10.
Sun, 28 Oct 2012 13:17:06 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 13 times for 59 yards in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he did not have any receptions. Fantasy Tip: The yardage total was his second lowest of the season, and this marks for the first time all year Morris has failed to find the end zone in back-to-back games. Don't be impatient, however, as a big game might be just around the corner in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers, a team with a very leaky rushing defense.
Sun, 21 Oct 2012 14:50:06 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris rushed for 120 yards on 22 carries against the New York Giants in Week 7.
Thu, 18 Oct 2012 12:13:36 -0700 Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said RB Alfred Morris forces opposing defenses to commit to stopping him, because he runs hard every week.
Sun, 14 Oct 2012 21:40:32 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 16 times for 47 yards and a score in the Week 6 win against the Minnesota Vikings. He also added nine yards on his only reception of the game. Fantasy Tip: The Florida Atlantic University product has scored in three of his past four games, and he has five rushing touchdowns on the season. In fact, between Morris and QB Robert Griffin III, all 11 of the team's rushing scores have been accomplished by rookies. Morris has emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues, and is a nice play heading into Week 7 against the New York Giants.
Sun, 07 Oct 2012 14:41:14 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris rushed for 115 yards on 18 carries against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5.
Thu, 04 Oct 2012 12:00:36 -0700 Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said RB Alfred Morris has come a long way in pass protection and pass catching since the offseason workouts.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 19:43:06 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris is having a tremendous rookie season, posting 376 rushing yards and four scores over his first four games. He came from a Florida Atlantic University team which went 1-11 last year, and the scouting report on him was he was an unspectacular, straight-ahead runner who might even be better suited to play fullback. However, head coach Mike Shanahan saw a young man who ran exactly the way he wants his running backs to run - one cut and get up the field.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 12:12:32 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan praised RB Alfred Morris after the team's Week 4 game. Shanahan said Morris is improving quickly despite being a rookie. "He never makes the same mistake twice," Shanahan said.
Sun, 30 Sep 2012 22:23:11 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 21 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Morris has scored in back-to-back games, and he has four scores through the first four contests.
Sun, 23 Sep 2012 20:06:40 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris carried 17 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Fantasy Tip: Morris has scored three touchdowns through his first three NFL games, but he should still be considered more of an RB2 or 'flex' player heading into Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Sun, 16 Sep 2012 23:47:37 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris had 16 carries for a game-high 89 yards in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams. RB Evan Royster had just one carry for four yards, and two catches for seven yards, while RB Roy Helu Jr. did not even have one carry, and he had one catch for no gain. Fantasy Tip: Morris appears to have a strangehold on the top tailback job, but that can change at the drop of the hat with head coach Mike Shanahan. Still, fantasy owners can feel confident using Morris as an RB2 or 'flex' play heading into Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals in a very favorable matchup.
Wed, 12 Sep 2012 12:37:15 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris said he is fine after carrying the ball 28 times in Week 1. "They could have gave me 30 more and I would've been fine," Morris said.
Mon, 10 Sep 2012 12:18:03 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that RB Alfred Morris is the starting running back. Shanahan also said that he still believes in RBs Roy Helu and Evan Royster.
Sun, 09 Sep 2012 16:28:22 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris had 28 carries with 96 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints. Fantasy Tip: The Florida Atlantic University product gained steam during the preseason, but then appeared to tumble to No. 3 on head coach Mike Shanahan's depth chart. The crafty veteran coach ran with Morris, who caught fire early. He'll likely use a mix of Morris, RBs Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster, using whichever player fires out of the blocks. That creates headaches for fantasy owners, but such is life. The Redskins face the St. Louis Rams in Week 2.
Sun, 09 Sep 2012 07:53:52 -0700 Washington Redskins rookie RB Alfred Morris is expected to start during Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints. Morris was the team's most impressive back during the preseason. Fantasy Tip: Don't get too excited. Coach Mike Shanahan is no stranger to using a committee approach during the game. Even if Morris starts, that doesn't guarantee he will be given the majority of the touches. He, Roy Helu and Evan Royster are all RB3 material with plenty of risk.
Sat, 08 Sep 2012 07:53:42 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan declined to say Friday, Sept. 7, who will start at running back in Week 1; however, there are signs RB Alfred Morris could get the starting nod. Several people with knowledge of the situation said they believe Morris is the probable starter but they didn't know if a final decision had been made.
Mon, 03 Sep 2012 18:14:15 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris was listed at No. 3 on the Week 1 depth chart released Monday, Sept. 3.
Wed, 29 Aug 2012 23:10:01 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris was a healthy scratch for the preseason finale Wednesday, Aug. 29, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fantasy Tip: Morris has been gaining traction as a fantasy sleeper on draft day, but the strong performances of RBs Roy Helu and Evan Royster Wednesday muddle the tailback picture in D.C. significantly. Head coach Mike Shanahan has been fickle with running backs in the past, and neither appears to be anything more than an RB3 or 'flex' fantasy play in leagues of 12 or more teams at this point.
Mon, 27 Aug 2012 12:22:13 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said RBs Evan Royster, Roy Helu, Tim Hightower and Alfred Morris still have a chance to win the starting running back job.
Fri, 17 Aug 2012 10:34:30 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris may get the start in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, because the team wants to see what he can do against starters. Morris wants to improve on his yards per carry average and prove he can pass block.
Thu, 16 Aug 2012 12:49:04 -0700 Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan announced that RBs Alfred Morris, Tristan Davis and Evan Royster will all get playing time in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, against the Chicago Bears.
Thu, 16 Aug 2012 11:51:00 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris and Tristan Davis are expected to get extra work in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 18, because of the injury to RB Roy Helu (Achilles).
Tue, 07 Aug 2012 17:38:18 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Evan Royster looked like the best back in the team's training camp last week, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. People from the organization have given Graziano the impression that they believe Royster has a higher ceiling than RB Roy Helu, if each is healthy. They also think highly of rookie RB Alfred Morris, who isn't out of the mix, in part because health is their chief concern regarding both Royster and Helu. Fantasy Tip: In other words, don't read too much into who's starting in the first preseason contest. Fantasy players should file the reported opinions of Washington personnel in their memory banks, however.
Tue, 31 Jul 2012 22:37:36 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris, a rookie from Florida Atlantic University, said Tuesday, July 31, that he is open to moving to fullback, but hasn't been asked by the coaches to take on that role.
Mon, 30 Jul 2012 20:14:48 -0700 Washington Redskins FB Darrel Young (hamstring) left practice Monday, July 30, due to a hamstring injury. RB Alfred Morris is expected to see time at fullback in Young's absence. FB Dorson Boyce is also in camp, but considered a long shot to make the final roster.
Wed, 20 Jun 2012 09:07:53 -0700 Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris has shown the ability to play running back and fullback during offseason workouts, which could be an advantage for him to make the final roster.
Sun, 06 May 2012 10:16:29 -0700 The Washington Redskins have signed sixth-round draft choices RB Alfred Morris and OT Tom Compton. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
