Cowboys | Alfred Morris not available

Thu, 26 May 2016 19:09:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris and RB Darren McFadden are not available for trade, executive vice president Stephen Jones said Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: After selecting Ezekiel Elliott with the No. 4 pick in the NFL draft, the fantasy value of both McFadden and Morris takes a major hit. McFadden is worth grabbing later in drafts, but it would take an injury to Elliott for McFadden to become a starting-caliber back.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott must earn starting job

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:20:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott must compete to earn a starting role this year, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys and will compete with RBs Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris. "It's a lot faster pace," Elliott said. "The game moves so much faster. Yesterday, I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit shell-shocked. But today I came out. I was a little bit more prepared and was more ready mentally so it was a little bit easier for me."

Fantasy Tip: This is probably just coach speak. Dallas wouldn't have used a top-five pick on a running back if they weren't prepared to start him immediately. Elliott was the top back in the draft by a long shot, and he should contribute nicely for fantasy owners immediately behind an elite offensive line. Take Elliott as an RB2 with upside for more in 2016.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris fine with RB addition

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:12:42 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris said he does not regret signing with the Cowboys this offseason even though the team selected RB Ezekiel Elliott in the first round of the draft. Head coach Jason Garrett has not talked with Morris about his role on offense, but Morris is excited to compete for a job.

Fantasy Tip: Morris likely will be behind Elliott and Darren McFadden on the depth chart if they all make the final roster. Morris could be used as a change-of-pace back but likely would see limited touches. He could be a late-round option in some leagues but probably would only be depth for fantasy teams in 2016.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris not worried about role

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 17:48:07 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris said he doesn't care what his role will be in 2016, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to play for the Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Morris will likely open the year sharing carries with Darren McFadden to some degree. He is a low-end RB3 as it stands, but McFadden's injury history gives Morris a lot of upside.

Dolphins | Miami had interest in Alfred Morris

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 10:33:19 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris had drawn interest from the Miami Dolphins before he signed with the Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Morris and Miami never gained much traction, and the Dolphins are still in need of another running back. Jay Ajayi is currently their lead back, and they've missed out on guys like Morris and C.J. Anderson. Depending on who they acquire, Ajayi can tentatively be considered a RB2 to RB3.

Redskins | Matt Jones receives vote of confidence

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 14:43:38 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) appears to be the prohibitive favorite to shoulder the load in 2016, according to head coach Jay Gruden. "Matt played well and we're very excited about him; we let a heck of a running back, and a very productive running back (Alfred Morris), go because we have Matt. … We're taking a bit of a gamble here, but based on our professional opinion, we believe he can handle it and be very, very effective at it, toting the rock," Gruden said.

Fantasy Tip: General manager Scot McCloughan likely drafted Jones with the intention he would eventually become a carbon copy of Marshawn Lynch, who McCloughan traded for when he was in the Seattle Seahawks' front office. While Washington will probably let Chris Thompson and perhaps Pierre Thomas steal some occasional snaps in 2016, it appears Jones will be given a shot to be a featured back. Owners should view him as a solid RB2 - with RB1 upside - at the moment.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden still starter in Dallas

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 14:35:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is still viewed as the starting running back, according to owner Jerry Jones, although Jones said newly acquired RB Alfred Morris will still have a substantive role.

Fantasy Tip: This is one of those running back committees that don't necessarily prompt you to cheer or show any positive emotion. Morris will likely be used mostly on short-yardage and goal-line carries, while McFadden should be used more in the passing game. McFadden has added value in PPR leagues and could still finish as an RB2 in PPR formats. Morris is in RB3 to RB4 territory.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris signs two-year deal

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 08:18:46 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris signed a two-year, $3.5 million deal that could be worth as much as $5.5 million.

Fantasy Tip: Morris fits the team's zone-blocking scheme well, but he's likely to split time with Darren McFadden. Both backs are in the low-RB2, high-RB3 range with Lance Dunbar falling back as an RB5.

Cowboys | Alfred Morris signing with Dallas

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 06:43:05 -0700

Free-agent RB Alfred Morris (Redskins) will sign with the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, March 22, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Morris lands behind one of the best offensive lines in the game in Dallas. Sure, Darren McFadden is coming off his best season since 2010, but he'll be 29 with a lengthy injury history. Morris will hold more value in non-PPR leagues, where McFadden thrives, but it's a situation he could rekindle his value after his yards per carry dipped each of the last three years. Lance Dunbar could factor in some packages as an RB5 in fantasy. Morris and McFadden will be in the low-RB2, high-RB3 range entering drafts.

NFL | Multiple teams eyeing Alfred Morris

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 12:35:09 -0700

Free-agent RB Alfred Morris (Redskins) is meeting with the Dallas Cowboys Monday, March 21, but the Cowboys aren't the only team interested in Morris. Those teams were not disclosed, however.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys are the only team to have met with Morris so far, but he could very well be meeting with other prospective teams in the near future. Wherever he goes, Morris takes the less-than-endearing term of "plodder" with him. He'll likely be part of a committee and should not be considered more than a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3.
