Indians | Yan Gomes to return Sunday

Thu, 21 May 2015 15:34:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) will return to catch against the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, May 24, according to manager Terry Francona.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) hasn't played since April 11 because of a serious knee injury, but he's returning a little earlier than expected for the Tribe. You should be very cautious in returning him to your FantasyScore lineups before seeing how he responds at the plate. The Indians could ease him back in, too.

Indians | Yan Gomes close to return

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:15:13 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) is close to being activated, according to manager Terry Francona, but he will likely need to a catch a nine-inning game for Class AAA Columbus, first.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should be added in advance in all but the shallowest of leagues. Gomes will still have a chance to approach 20 home runs with plenty of time left in the season.

Indians | Yan Gomes nearing rehab assignment

Wed, 13 May 2015 16:32:49 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) participated in more on-field drills Wednesday, May 13, and manager Terry Francona said Gomes could begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class A Lake County (Ohio) Friday, May 15, as a designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) beginning his rehab assignment is a nice first step in working back into the FantasyScore mix. It would be wise to give him a few games to readjust to major league pitching before utilizing him in daily contests, though. Seasonal owners should continue to stash Gomes in all formats.

Indians | Corey Kluber missing Yan Gomes?

Mon, 11 May 2015 15:21:42 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber is 18-9 with a 2.39 ERA with C Yan Gomes as his catcher since the start of last year, and he's 0-5 with a 5.13 ERA with all other catcher. Kluber was 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA when Gomes was hurt early this season, and he's 0-4 with a 6.10 ERA while pitching to C Roberto Perez. Gomes is expected to be out until June.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) is fanning 9.3 hitters per nine innings and walking just 2.2 hitters per nine, while opponents are hitting .364 on balls put in play. His strand rate is also way down at 62.3%, suggesting that a turnaround is imminent from last year's Cy Young winner. Kluber is an excellent buy-low target, and he'll be a good contrarian play at FantasyScore while others avoid him.

Indians | Yan Gomes throwing

Tue, 05 May 2015 13:45:08 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) is throwing to second base in a crouch before the game Tuesday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) still has a ways to go in his recovery from a knee injury and isn't expected back until next month. Roberto Perez ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) and Brett Hayes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are splitting the catching duties in the meantime. Both are weaker starting catching daily options.

Indians | Yan Gomes aggressive in rehab

Fri, 01 May 2015 13:40:25 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) has been "an animal" in his rehab from a knee injury, according to manager Terry Francona. Gomes is progressing rapidly and will travel with the team to add baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes is unlikely to return for around another month, so you'll need to be patient and continue to stash him in a DL slot. Roberto Perez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has been handling the majority of catching duties in his absence, and he has nine hits (three home runs) in 43 at-bats. Perez has some pop, but he's inconsistent, making him a weak catching option at FantasyScore.

Indians | Yan Gomes taking dry swings

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 21:42:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes (knee) has started to take dry swings, manager Terry Francona said Wednesday, April 29. The team said Gomes would miss six to eight weeks when he sprained his right knee April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Gomes will return closer to the six-week mark than the latter, but he is still a ways off from game action. FantasyScore players can avoid Gomes for now. Roberto Perez ($2,800; or 5.6% of cap) is the guy to focus on for DFS players.
