Angels | Kole Calhoun back from injury

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:00:57 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (calf) is back in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Roberto Hernandez Friday, April 17. Calhoun, as usual, is starting in right field and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Calhoun ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is a strong play at FantasyScore this evening while going against a weak starting pitcher in Hernandez. Calhoun also hit .277 with 15 of his 17 home runs against righties in 2014 in 390 at-bats.

Angels | Kole Calhoun out until weekend

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 14:37:55 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (calf) said he doesn't plan on returning to the lineup until Friday, April 17, at the earliest. He's dealing with an injured right calf.

Fantasy Tip: Calhoun ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) should be avoided in all FantasyScore contests for the rest of the week to be on the safe side. Collin Cowgill ($2,000, 4.0% of cap, who had an impressive spring and homered Monday night, should fill in. He won't be a bad sleeper pick for daily lineups Tuesday night against Texas Rangers' hittable starter Nick Martinez.

Angels | Kole Calhoun leaves early

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 16:40:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (shoulder) left the game early with a trainer Thursday, March 26. He was hit in the right shoulder by a pitch and also slid hard into second base during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to check back for updates on Calhoun before jumping to conclusions. It was likely a precautionary move. Hitting in front of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols is a nice spot for fantasy value, but be careful not to overvalue Calhoun. He is a great source for runs and has nice pop, but he slid to a .254/.301/.395 slash line in the second half last season. At 27, there might not be a another level of production in store, either.

Angels | Kole Calhoun tweaks hand

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:38:23 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (hand) felt something in his hand while swinging Monday, March 23, and was removed from the game. He said he feels fine, though, and expects to play Tuesday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Calhoun had an excellent 2014 season, but ascending to another level may not be in store for the 27-year-old outfielder who has just 711 career at-bats. Additionally, he may lose the occasional start against left-handed pitchers and any stolen bases should be considered a bonus. Still, he profiles as a nice three category contributor hitting leadoff, and most importantly in front of Mike Trout. Just be careful you're not paying for more than what you'll receive. Calhoun profiles much better as your third outfielder than your second.
