Reds | Tucker Barnhart not starting

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 16:08:17 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Tucker Barnhart is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain Tuesday, July 26. C Ramon Cabrera will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is hitting .265 with seven RBI in his limited playing time this season. He can be a decent option in NL-only leagues but probably should be avoided in most other leagues.

Reds | Tucker Barnhart catching Sunday

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 07:59:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Tucker Barnhart is back in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, July 17, batting eighth. 2B Brandon Phillips (calf) remains out of the lineup, with INF/OF Jose Peraza batting seventh and playing the keystone position.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart is batting .393 with one home run and seven RBI through 28 July at-bats, making him worthy of consideration as a value play in daily fantasy contests. Peraza has some value in NL-only fantasy leagues because of his speed but isn't a great option in DFS. He is 13-for-13 through 34 career MLB games on stolen-base attempts.

Reds | Brandon Phillips absent from lineup

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 13:10:43 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (calf) is not in the lineup Saturday, July 16, against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson. 2B Jose Peraza will fill in for Phillips at second base and hit seventh, while C Ramon Cabrera will replace C Tucker Barnhart behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Philips has seen his production drop off significantly this season as a result of dealing with foot, ankle and hand injuries. He is batting .260, hasn't homered since May 7 and registered only two stolen bases since the end of April, making him waiver-wire fodder in a number of leagues. Peraza's only desirable fantasy attribute at the moment is his speed and Cabrera doesn't provide much of anything as Barnhart's backup, making both players difficult to recommend in any format.

Reds | Eugenio Suarez resting Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:37:31 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 3B Eugenio Suarez is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Sunday, July 10. INF Ivan De Jesus will bat eighth and start at the hot corner. In addition, C Tucker Barnhart will bat seventh and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus is batting just .223 with a home run and 12 RBI this season and is not a recommended fantasy option Sunday afternoon. On the other hand, Barnhart is hitting .474 (9-for-19) with a double, home run and five RBI during the month of July and makes an excellent value play in DFS.

Reds | Ramon Cabrera catching Saturday

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:01:08 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Ramon Cabrera will bat eighth and start behind the plate against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Saturday, July 9. C Tucker Barnhart is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is batting .254 with six RBI through 67 at-bats but is hitting .350 versus left-handed pitching and .320 during day games. As far as inexpensive fliers go in DFS, you could do much worse.

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 08:26:47 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Tucker Barnhart is out of the lineup Tuesday, July 5, with C Ramon Cabrera hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is hitting .254 with five RBI this season and really isn't worth the plug-and-play against John Lackey.

Reds | Cincinnati resting two players

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:37:09 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Adam Duvall and C Tucker Barnhart are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg Sunday, July 3. OF Jose Peraza will start in left field and is batting second, while C Ramon Cabrera will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Peraza is hitting .278 over the last seven days but has only three RBI since being recalled from the minor leagues. Cabrera has three hits in his last seven games and has not recorded an RBI in eight games. Neither player should be a starting option for owners.

Reds | Tucker Barnhart sitting vs. Friars

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:35:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds C Tucker Barnhart is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 23. C Ramon Cabrera is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Christian Friedrich Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart is a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only formats, but he does receive the majority of starts, so his volume slightly helps maintain his limited fantasy value. Cabrera is a respectable 23-for-73 (.315 batting average) in the majors, and he could be utilized as a low-priced flier in daily contests Thursday.
