Giants | Larry Donnell returns to practice

Fri, 09 Dec 2016 12:02:11 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (illness) returned to practice Friday, Dec. 9, and got in a full session.

Fantasy Tip: An illness cost Donnell practice on Thursday, but considering he's not even listed on the injury report, he should definitely be out there on Sunday. However, he's far too inconsistent to trust in the fantasy postseason for most leagues.

Giants | Larry Donnell sits out practice

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 13:50:58 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell actually logged six receptions in his return from a concussion this past week against the Steelers, but he's really a middling TE2 at best. His inconsistency and overall lack of production should keep him on just about all waiver wires for the fantasy playoffs.

Giants | Larry Donnell has six grabs in return

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 16:07:31 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) returned to the lineup in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens. He was targeted seven times, finishing with six grabs for 34 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The stat line wasn't huge, but the yardage total and receptions were actually season bests. He is only worth a look in the very deepest of fantasy leagues if you're desperate for tight end help.

Giants | Larry Donnell takes part in practice

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 12:49:41 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell has a very good chance to play this week and likely will be the starting tight end for the Giants. He has not been much of a factor in the passing game this season and can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

Giants | Larry Donnell listed as limited

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 12:17:13 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell appears to be on track to play against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6, but his status will be known later in the week. He has recorded only 50 yards on eight catches this season and is not a strong fantasy option.

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 14:02:01 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) is expected to be cleared from the concussion protocol and practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is a low-end TE2 at this point and not worth a roster spot in the majority of leagues. Over his past 12 games, he has just 37 receptions for 273 yards and three scores, after all.

Giants | Will Tye to see bulk of snaps for NYG

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 09:35:09 -0700

New York Giants TE Will Tye is expected to see the majority of playing time at tight end while Larry Donnell (concussion) is out, according to the ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Fantasy Tip: Tye was a second-half revelation last season with 36 receptions for 409 yards and three touchdowns in the eight games Donnell missed in 2015. The Giants don't trust high-upside rookie Jerell Adams as a blocker yet, so it should come as no surprise if Tye steps up with a solid performance Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, who have struggled so far to defend the tight end position.

Giants | Larry Donnell ruled out for Sunday night

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 12:36:11 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) has been ruled out for the team's Week 5 game Sunday, Oct. 9, versus the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: This means Will Tye will draw the start at tight end for the Giants on Sunday evening, and he may have some TE2 potential. However, he could also be a risky play, as New York may also elect to get rookie Jerell Adams involved a little bit more as well.

Giants | No practice for Larry Donnell

Thu, 06 Oct 2016 13:16:06 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) did not practice Thursday, Oct. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell's status doesn't look promising for Week 5. Will Tye would make for a cheap, under-the-radar option in daily contests. The Green Bay Packers have been one of the worst fantasy defenses against tight ends this year, so don't completely rule out Tye.

Giants | Larry Donnell misses practice

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 14:41:12 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell will have to pass the concussion tests before he is cleared to play. He has recorded only 50 yards this season and would not be a great option for owners even if he plays.

Giants | Larry Donnell done for the game

Mon, 03 Oct 2016 18:26:47 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion) suffered a concussion in the first quarter of the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings and he will not return.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell scored in the opener in Dallas, but has managed just eight grabs for 50 yards and isn't worthy of a roster spot in most fantasy leagues after an outstanding rookie season. Will Tye will likely pick up any targets Donnell might have previously received.

Giants | Larry Donnell on top of depth chart

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 15:30:25 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell is listed as the starting tight end on the team's first depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell posted decent numbers in 2015 before he suffered his neck injury but will have a chance to keep the job during the preseason. Donnell probably would be a No. 2 tight end in most fantasy leagues if he wins the job.

Giants | Matt LaCosse in mix to start

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 22:10:46 -0700

New York Giants TE Matt LaCosse was impressive in the spring, earning first-team snaps in practice, and he continues to get them in training camp. He has worked his way into a three-man race for the starting tight end job with TEs Larry Donnell and Will Tye.

Fantasy Tip: LaCosse isn't worth drafting just yet, but if he continues to see first-team reps and has a good training camp and preseason, he might very well emerge as a fantasy option.

Giants | Will Tye the favorite?

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 12:16:34 -0700

New York Giants TE Will Tye is the favorite to start at tight end over TE Larry Donnell, in the opinion of NJ.com's Dan Duggan. TE Matt LaCosse is also expected to compete for the starting job.

Fantasy Tip: This position battle could come down to preseason. Whoever wins, however, should not be viewed as a starting fantasy tight end.

Giants | Two expected to fight for Giants' TE job

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 13:16:14 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell and TE Will Tye are expected to compete for the starting tight end job during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell has more experience than Tye and may be more of an offensive threat, but Tye appears to be a more well-rounded tight end. Donnell would be a No. 2 tight end for fantasy owners if he wins the job but his value mostly depends on his touchdowns. Tye probably would only be a low-end No. 2 tight end in deeper leagues.

Giants | Will Tye could start

Sun, 22 May 2016 10:40:52 -0700

New York Giants TE Will Tye's pass-catching potential and athleticism make him the favorite to start at tight end in 2016 for the Giants, in the opinion of Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. TEs Larry Donnell, Matt LaCosse and Jerell Adams will also be competing.

Fantasy Tip: Larry Donnell's status remains shaky with the neck injury he suffered last year. Tye seems to be next in line if the Giants aren't convinced that Donnell is ready to start, but neither Donnell nor Tye are starting tight end materialy anyway.

Giants | Larry Donnell had serious injury

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 14:07:32 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) said he had a broken bone in his neck last year to a certain extent, adding that the injury was worse than he thought.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell missed half of last season because of the injury after a TE1 campaign the previous year. He still has TE1 potential if he can stay healthy, but he's just too much of a risk to draft as a starting fantasy tight end right now.

Giants | Larry Donnell financials

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:10:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants TE Larry Donnell re-signed his one-year restricted free-agent tender worth $1.67 million Tuesday, April 19, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: There's always risk in drafting a player who is coming off a prolonged injury. Donnell has low-end TE1 potential if he can stay on the field, but it's safer to draft him as a TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell re-signs

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 10:29:35 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell re-signed an undisclosed deal with the Giants Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell suffered a serious neck injury last year and missed most of the season. He's been cleared for activities this offseason and should be ready for training camp, however. He had a career-high 63 catches and six touchdowns in 2014, but that very well may have been his ceiling. He's more of a red zone threat for the G-Men and is a midrange TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell cleared

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 10:31:07 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) received full clearance from doctors, according to his agent, Tamika Cheatham.

Giants | Larry Donnell receives low tender

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 11:06:21 -0800

New York Giants impending free-agent TE Larry Donnell received a low tender worth $1.67 million from the Giants Thursday, March 3.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell could easily be stolen away by another team this offseason. He had just 29 catches for 223 yards and two touchdowns in 2015 after a career-high six scores the year before. He's an inconsistent tight end weapon who is more of a red-zone threat. Donnell is unlikely to be much more than a low-end fantasy backup again in 2016.

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 11:48:50 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) hasn't been cleared to play yet, but the team expects he will be.

Giants | Larry Donnell not slated for surgery

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:07:46 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck), who was placed on the Reserve/Injured list this week, isn't expected to need surgery, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. "Larry is a question of continuously looking at the MRI," Coughlin said. "There's no timetable on the other end of when, in fact, he would be healthy, so therefore, the move was made."

Fantasy Tip: With Donnell done for the year, Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has effectively taken over as the tight end for the Giants. Tye has nine catches in the last two games and has gone over 70 yards receiving in the last two contests, but he'll be sparingly used and isn't a reliable option in daily formats.

Giants | Larry Donnell goes to IR

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 14:18:33 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is officially out for the rest of the season, so Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should continue to start at tight end for the Giants. You can do worse than choosing Tye for your starting FantasyScore tight end. He's still dirt cheap and has tallied at least 70 yards in each of his last two games.

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 10:56:49 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Friday, Dec. 4, and has been ruled out against the New York Jets in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men could have a field day through the air against the weakened and injured Jets secondary. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) could see plenty of double teams but should still satisfy his owners. Rueben Randle ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is about as attractive a value play as they come this weekend.

Giants | Larry Donnell sits again

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 12:01:58 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) sat out of practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has missed more than a month of action with a neck injury and doesn't appear ready to return this weekend. Avoid him everywhere. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) could have a massive game against the New York Jets without Darrelle Revis. Rueben Randle ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) should be an excellent value play on FantasyScore, too.

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 11:45:43 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not travel with the team Saturday, Nov. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is expected to miss some time, so Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should be regarded a decent flyer on FantasyScore for the time being.

Giants | Larry Donnell may be out for a while

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 08:19:09 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) said his neck is in rough shape and that he likely will not be able to play for a while.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) likely will miss several more weeks and may not be able to return this season, so owners should monitor the situation. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) likely will continue to start at tight end but should not be a starting option.

Giants | Larry Donnell out

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 11:40:02 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is out for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: There is talk that Donnell's season could be over. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) had five catches for 56 yards last week, but he can't be counted on against the Washington Redskins on FantasyScore.

Giants | Larry Donnell sits Thursday

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 11:35:35 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) was out of practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) doesn't appear promising to play against the Washington Redskins this weekend. He would be a meager play on FantasyScore if he suits up.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't practice

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 10:07:32 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 25, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) hasn't played since Nov. 1 due to a neck injury and would be a very weak tight end pick on FantasyScore if he returns. The Washington Redskins have only allowed two scores to tight ends all season.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't play this weekend

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 12:45:43 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is expected to sit out again in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. He has done some running in practice the last two days, but that has been it. The Giants have a bye week in Week 11, so the Giants could give Donnell extra time to recover.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Donnell in all formats for the foreseeable future with the bye next week. The Giants don't have a tight end that can effectively step up in the passing game that is useful on FantasyScore, either.

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 07:49:44 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) will not practice Thursday, Nov. 12, but the team said he is moving around much better.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) failed to make a big impact last week and isn't a good flyer against the New England Patriots on FantasyScore this week.

Giants | Two Giants miss practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 14:33:34 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Both Cruz and Donnell didn't practice all of last week either and didn't play, so this could be another downward trend. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) would be worth a hard look on FantasyScore after a productive Week 10 in Cruz's absence. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4%) would likely start for Donnell again if Donnell is out, but he didn't do much last week and can be looked past.

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 15:08:48 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) missed practice Thursday, Nov. 5. He is not expected to play in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should start in place of Donnell, assuming Donnell doesn't play this week. He's not a bad under-the-radar pick at tight end on FantasyScore, especially at his current price.

Giants | Larry Donnell unlikely to play

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 15:27:19 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is still experiencing muscle spasms in his neck and is unlikely to play in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Donnell didn't practice Wednesday, Nov. 4, but he expects to return soon.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Donnell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in all formats this week. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should both be safe plays in this one, but keep an eye on Randle's injury.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't be out long

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:25:45 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is confident that the neck injury he suffered in Week 8 won't keep him out for long. Donnell said that he'll be back soon, but the Giants have no timetable for his return. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Donnell is week-to-week. "I'm just taking it until I get motion back in it," he said. "We're just taking it day-by-day. So no timeframe, just whenever I'm able to get all my motion back in it." Donnell wants to be 100% when he returns to action. TE Will Tye is currently the only tight end on the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) sounds doubtful for Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so look to avoid him on FantasyScore. Tye (1,700, 3.4% of cap) has no business being in your daily lineups as a deep sleeper if Donnell sits out.
