Giants | Larry Donnell not slated for surgery

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:07:46 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck), who was placed on the Reserve/Injured list this week, isn't expected to need surgery, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. "Larry is a question of continuously looking at the MRI," Coughlin said. "There's no timetable on the other end of when, in fact, he would be healthy, so therefore, the move was made."

Fantasy Tip: With Donnell done for the year, Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has effectively taken over as the tight end for the Giants. Tye has nine catches in the last two games and has gone over 70 yards receiving in the last two contests, but he'll be sparingly used and isn't a reliable option in daily formats.

Giants | Larry Donnell goes to IR

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 14:18:33 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is officially out for the rest of the season, so Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should continue to start at tight end for the Giants. You can do worse than choosing Tye for your starting FantasyScore tight end. He's still dirt cheap and has tallied at least 70 yards in each of his last two games.

Giants | Larry Donnell to miss another game

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 10:56:49 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Friday, Dec. 4, and has been ruled out against the New York Jets in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: The G-Men could have a field day through the air against the weakened and injured Jets secondary. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) could see plenty of double teams but should still satisfy his owners. Rueben Randle ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is about as attractive a value play as they come this weekend.

Giants | Larry Donnell sits again

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 12:01:58 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) sat out of practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has missed more than a month of action with a neck injury and doesn't appear ready to return this weekend. Avoid him everywhere. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) could have a massive game against the New York Jets without Darrelle Revis. Rueben Randle ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) should be an excellent value play on FantasyScore, too.

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not travel with the team Saturday, Nov. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is expected to miss some time, so Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should be regarded a decent flyer on FantasyScore for the time being.

Giants | Larry Donnell may be out for a while

Sat, 28 Nov 2015 08:19:09 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) said his neck is in rough shape and that he likely will not be able to play for a while.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) likely will miss several more weeks and may not be able to return this season, so owners should monitor the situation. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) likely will continue to start at tight end but should not be a starting option.

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 11:40:02 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is out for Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: There is talk that Donnell's season could be over. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) had five catches for 56 yards last week, but he can't be counted on against the Washington Redskins on FantasyScore.

Giants | Larry Donnell sits Thursday

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 11:35:35 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) was out of practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) doesn't appear promising to play against the Washington Redskins this weekend. He would be a meager play on FantasyScore if he suits up.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't practice

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 10:07:32 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 25, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) hasn't played since Nov. 1 due to a neck injury and would be a very weak tight end pick on FantasyScore if he returns. The Washington Redskins have only allowed two scores to tight ends all season.

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 10:39:50 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) said he has been cleared to play and that he feels completely healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell missed the last two games because of the injury but should return to the starting lineup. Donnell has posted decent numbers this season, but owners should be able to find better options to use at the position.

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 12:50:45 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) has been ruled out of the Week 10 game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) may take over as the starting tight end with Donnell out of the lineup. Owners in all leagues should look for other options to use in their lineups.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't play this weekend

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 12:45:43 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is expected to sit out again in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. He has done some running in practice the last two days, but that has been it. The Giants have a bye week in Week 11, so the Giants could give Donnell extra time to recover.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Donnell in all formats for the foreseeable future with the bye next week. The Giants don't have a tight end that can effectively step up in the passing game that is useful on FantasyScore, either.

Giants | Larry Donnell idle Thursday

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 07:49:44 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) will not practice Thursday, Nov. 12, but the team said he is moving around much better.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) failed to make a big impact last week and isn't a good flyer against the New England Patriots on FantasyScore this week.

Giants | Two Giants miss practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 14:33:34 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Both Cruz and Donnell didn't practice all of last week either and didn't play, so this could be another downward trend. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) would be worth a hard look on FantasyScore after a productive Week 10 in Cruz's absence. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4%) would likely start for Donnell again if Donnell is out, but he didn't do much last week and can be looked past.

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:23:57 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) were out of practice all week and are out for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is a basement option at tight end on FantasyScore against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Giants | No practice for Larry Donnell

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 15:08:48 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) missed practice Thursday, Nov. 5. He is not expected to play in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should start in place of Donnell, assuming Donnell doesn't play this week. He's not a bad under-the-radar pick at tight end on FantasyScore, especially at his current price.

Giants | Larry Donnell unlikely to play

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 15:27:19 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is still experiencing muscle spasms in his neck and is unlikely to play in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Donnell didn't practice Wednesday, Nov. 4, but he expects to return soon.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Donnell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in all formats this week. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should both be safe plays in this one, but keep an eye on Randle's injury.

Giants | Larry Donnell won't be out long

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:25:45 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is confident that the neck injury he suffered in Week 8 won't keep him out for long. Donnell said that he'll be back soon, but the Giants have no timetable for his return. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Donnell is week-to-week. "I'm just taking it until I get motion back in it," he said. "We're just taking it day-by-day. So no timeframe, just whenever I'm able to get all my motion back in it." Donnell wants to be 100% when he returns to action. TE Will Tye is currently the only tight end on the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) sounds doubtful for Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so look to avoid him on FantasyScore. Tye (1,700, 3.4% of cap) has no business being in your daily lineups as a deep sleeper if Donnell sits out.

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 08:12:51 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) is week to week and will not practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has eight catches for 77 yards this season and is a real shot in the dark on FantasyScore against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 12:04:02 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) has avoided a serious injury but is dealing with a sore neck, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Donnell ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is at risk of missing this week's contest or not. If the Giants hold him out, Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4%) would be next in line to start. Look for updates on Donnell's status throughout the week.

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 11:37:52 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (neck) suffered a neck injury during the team's Week 8 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners likely will receive an update on Donnell after the game or in the next day. Will Tye is the only other tight end on the game day roster but is not a great fantasy option at this point.

Giants | Larry Donnell hauls in game winner

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 22:13:57 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell posted six receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He was targeted seven times.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) posted the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. He could see a bigger role in the offense going forward with Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. nursing hamstring ailments.

Giants | Larry Donnell has five receptions

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 16:44:16 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell posted five receptions for 38 yards in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills. He was targeted seven times.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has taken a giant step backward after his surprising rookie season in 2014. He is a bit overpriced given his mediocre production for FantasyScore owners to date.

Giants | Larry Donnell still learning

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 12:36:56 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell still has work to do in order to reach his full potential, according to tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride. Gilbride said Donnell can be a special player if he's willing to do the work to get to that level. Gilbride added that Donnell's blocking techniques have improved, but his route-running isn't up to par yet.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell may not see the 92 targets he saw last year with WRs Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle and RB Shane Vereen all in the mix. Donnell should remain a red zone and goal line threat, but the receptions (63) and yards (623) could be lower. Draft him as your TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell not running yet

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 10:42:22 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') is still not ready to run routes at this point because of an Achilles' tendon injury, according to tight ends coach Kevin M. Gilbride.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell probably will return to the starting lineup once he is cleared to practice. Donnell posted solid numbers last season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a solid No. 2 tight end for owners this season.

Giants | Larry Donnell tapered off in 2014

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 05:25:00 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell scored three of his six touchdowns in Week 4 in 2014 and failed to find the end zone over his final six games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was erratic in the touchdown department but steadily managed to catch passes. His production drop coincided with the emergence of rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Donnell is a shaky TE1 in the deepest of leagues and is best reserved for daily action on FantasyScore.

Giants | Larry Donnell out of walking boot

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:18:08 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') had his walking boot removed.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is a bit of a tease entering this season with so much uncertainty after the first few tight ends are off the board. Donnell had a flashy 63-623-6 line for the season, but three of those touchdowns were in Week 4. Shane Vereen and, most likely, Victor Cruz (knee) will be there to take targets away from him. Don't overvalue him on draft day and view him as a high-end TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell still on the upswing

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 18:09:27 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') missed a good chunk of organized team activities (OTAs) due to an Achilles' problem. If the injury lingers it could open the door for TEs Jerome Cunningham and Adrien Robinson to see more responsibilities in the passing game. However, long term the team feels Donnell is still on the upswing, or has plenty of upside.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is the clear No. 1 tight end on this season after coming out of nowhere to seize the starting job last season. All indications are that his Achilles’ injury is not serious and he should be fine for the regular season. In standard fantasy formats he is considered a Top 15 option at his position and worthy of a selection in the neighborhood of Rounds 11 through 13.

Giants | Larry Donnell in boot

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 15:52:45 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') is in a walking boot as he recovers from Achilles' tendinitis. Donnell said he's taking a day-by-day approach to the injury, but reiterated that it's not serious.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Donnell should be good to go at least by the time training camp begins, as long as the Achilles' doesn't flare up again. If he can stay on the field for a full season, or close to a full season, he could finish with TE1 numbers in 2015.

Giants | Larry Donnell injury not serious

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 11:33:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Giants TE Larry Donnell's (Achilles') tendonitis is not serious and he should be OK in the next few days.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Donnell should be good to go for training camp, unless he suffers any setbacks. Draft him as a low-end TE1 in what could be a prolific Giants' offense.

Giants | Larry Donnell injury update

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 10:29:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') has been dealing with tendonitis in his Achilles' tendon, which is why he is wearing a boot.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation over the next few weeks to see if this is an injury that can linger. Donnell posted solid numbers in 2014 and could be a starting tight end against certain matchups this upcoming season.

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 08:41:00 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (leg) appears to have a walking boot on his left leg Monday, June 1, in organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: There is no word on the reason, but we'll keep you posted. Donnell is a mid-to-low TE1 with upside if it's not serious.

Giants | More snaps for Larry Donnell?

Fri, 29 May 2015 19:22:50 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell has been working on improving as a blocker during the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was an effective red-zone target last season, but his poor blocking skills kept him out of the lineup at times. If he can become even a serviceable blocker, his offensive upside should keep him on the field a lot more in 2015, boosting his fantasy value.

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 10:20:37 -0800

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell was on a Delta Airlines plane that skidded off the runway at New York's La Guardia Airport Thursday, March 5. Donnell was not injured in that incident.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was a nice addition to fantasy rosters last year, but he may struggle to get as many targets again this year with Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz back on the field together.

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell was officially tendered as an exclusive rights free agent Wednesday, March 4. The deal is one year in length and worth $585,000.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell turned into quite the waiver wire pickup last season, tallying 63 catches for 623 and six touchdowns. With Odell Beckham Jr., an ideally healthy Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle still in town, however, Donnell may not get as much attention from QB Eli Manning in 2015.

Giants | Larry Donnell hasn't hit ceiling

Wed, 22 Oct 2014 21:53:33 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell is just scratching the surface, according to tight ends coach Kevin M. Gilbride. Some of his mistakes, including fumbles and blocking deficiencies, are simply the product of a player at the low end of his ultimate progression. "He's so green with everything he does," Gilbride said. "He hasn't been playing the position for very long. But he works at it, he tries to get better and it's paid off in the passing game and he's getting better every week in the run game."

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is a tempting play in FantasyScore at $5,000 (or 10.0 percent of the cap). However, he has done next to nothing lately, and is overpriced, even at this level.

Giants | Larry Donnell does nothing again

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 20:44:36 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell managed just one reception for six yards in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he was targeted just two times.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell exploded onto the scene against Washington a couple of weeks ago, but just as quickly as he emerged, he has faded. Fantasy owners can safely drop him in all but the deepest of leagues.

Giants | Larry Donnell shut out

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 06:25:49 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell didn't record a catch in the Week 5 game Sunday, Oct. 5, and received one target. The Atlanta Falcons paid extra attention to him in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is still a solid TE option most weeks on FantasyScore. However, this is proof there will be teams that key in on him. It's up to the rest of the offense to keep defenses honest.

Giants | Larry Donnell not on stat sheet

Sun, 05 Oct 2014 13:44:15 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell was targeted just once in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons, and he did not have any catches or offensive statistics.

Fantasy Tip: There was no known injury to Donnell, so it just appears the Falcons defense did a good job taking him out of the plan. He has been a decent low-end TE1 to this point, but he is still a rookie and is a risky play.

Giants | Larry Donnell on near-record pace

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 17:52:55 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell is on pace to finish the year with 100 catches, 944 yards and 16 touchdowns. The single-season record for touchdowns by a tight end is currently 17.

Fantasy Tip: Although Donnell's pace is likely to slow now that defenses know that he is big part of the Giants' passing game, his size and athleticism should ensure that Eli Manning will continue to look his way in the red zone. With a salary of $5,900 (11.8% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 5, Donnell could make a great play against an Atlanta defense that has been one of the worst in the NFL this season.

Giants | Larry Donnell three first-half TDs

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 19:06:01 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell caught six passes on six targets for 40 yards and three touchdowns in the first half of the team's Week 4 game Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was a consistent contributor through the team's first three games, but he is on his way to a monster Week 4 performance. It looks like he is quickly becoming one of Eli Manning's main targets, especially in the red zone. With his size and leaping ability, this could be the first of many big performances for Donnell.

Giants | May use committee at TE

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 14:21:43 -0700

The New York Giants may use a committee approach with their tight ends this season based on different situations, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. "I really think that there'll be a group of guys that'll play that'll help us in different situations and will be matched up according to the circumstance," Coughlin said. "I think that's where it's going to go. I think there's a lot of roles for that spot." TEs Larry Donnell, Adrien Robinson, Daniel Fells and Kellen Davis are expected to make the final roster, but no starter has been named.

Fantasy Tip: None of the tight ends have a lot of fantasy value, and none likely should be drafted in fantasy leagues. Robinson has the most upside and could be a waiver wire pickup during the season if he wins the starting job. Donnell could also have some value if he starts at some point.

Giants | Larry Donnell leading TE pack

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 08:31:35 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell is leading the positional race so far, according to Dan Graziano, who said Donnell has the surest hands of the group.
