Giants | Larry Donnell still learning

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 12:36:56 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell still has work to do in order to reach his full potential, according to tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride. Gilbride said Donnell can be a special player if he's willing to do the work to get to that level. Gilbride added that Donnell's blocking techniques have improved, but his route-running isn't up to par yet.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell may not see the 92 targets he saw last year with WRs Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle and RB Shane Vereen all in the mix. Donnell should remain a red zone and goal line threat, but the receptions (63) and yards (623) could be lower. Draft him as your TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell not running yet

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 10:42:22 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') is still not ready to run routes at this point because of an Achilles' tendon injury, according to tight ends coach Kevin M. Gilbride.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell probably will return to the starting lineup once he is cleared to practice. Donnell posted solid numbers last season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a solid No. 2 tight end for owners this season.

Giants | Larry Donnell tapered off in 2014

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 05:25:00 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell scored three of his six touchdowns in Week 4 in 2014 and failed to find the end zone over his final six games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was erratic in the touchdown department but steadily managed to catch passes. His production drop coincided with the emergence of rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Donnell is a shaky TE1 in the deepest of leagues and is best reserved for daily action on FantasyScore.

Giants | Larry Donnell out of walking boot

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:18:08 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') had his walking boot removed.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is a bit of a tease entering this season with so much uncertainty after the first few tight ends are off the board. Donnell had a flashy 63-623-6 line for the season, but three of those touchdowns were in Week 4. Shane Vereen and, most likely, Victor Cruz (knee) will be there to take targets away from him. Don't overvalue him on draft day and view him as a high-end TE2.

Giants | Larry Donnell still on the upswing

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 18:09:27 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') missed a good chunk of organized team activities (OTAs) due to an Achilles' problem. If the injury lingers it could open the door for TEs Jerome Cunningham and Adrien Robinson to see more responsibilities in the passing game. However, long term the team feels Donnell is still on the upswing, or has plenty of upside.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell is the clear No. 1 tight end on this season after coming out of nowhere to seize the starting job last season. All indications are that his Achilles’ injury is not serious and he should be fine for the regular season. In standard fantasy formats he is considered a Top 15 option at his position and worthy of a selection in the neighborhood of Rounds 11 through 13.

Giants | Larry Donnell in boot

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 15:52:45 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (Achilles') is in a walking boot as he recovers from Achilles' tendinitis. Donnell said he's taking a day-by-day approach to the injury, but reiterated that it's not serious.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Donnell should be good to go at least by the time training camp begins, as long as the Achilles' doesn't flare up again. If he can stay on the field for a full season, or close to a full season, he could finish with TE1 numbers in 2015.

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 08:41:00 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell (leg) appears to have a walking boot on his left leg Monday, June 1, in organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: There is no word on the reason, but we'll keep you posted. Donnell is a mid-to-low TE1 with upside if it's not serious.

Giants | More snaps for Larry Donnell?

Fri, 29 May 2015 19:22:50 -0700

New York Giants TE Larry Donnell has been working on improving as a blocker during the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Donnell was an effective red-zone target last season, but his poor blocking skills kept him out of the lineup at times. If he can become even a serviceable blocker, his offensive upside should keep him on the field a lot more in 2015, boosting his fantasy value.
