Nationals | Michael Taylor starting strong

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 18:25:04 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Michael Taylor is the only member of his team to have a hit in all five games through Saturday, April 11. Taylor leads all National League rookies with six hits so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) only made the team out of spring training due to injuries to both OF Denard Span (hernia) and OF Jayson Werth (shoulder). Taylor's play so far this season will make things difficult for manager Matt Williams upon the return of the two veterans. Taylor is a strong play on FantasyScore until his price goes up.

Nationals | Michael Taylor has opportunity

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 13:54:33 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Michael A. Taylor figures to be the team's starting center fielder on opening day with OF Denard Span (hernia) out four to six weeks. OF Nate McLouth (shoulder) is still recovering from shoulder surgery. Taylor, the team's No. 3 prospect, is coming off a strong year in the minors, but he's played only 29 games above Class AA. The Nats would like to see Taylor have more plate discipline, though, and it might make him a poor fit for the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor is intriguing because of his raw power as a young prospect. With Span not expected to be ready for the start of the season, he might be worth a flier in the late rounds of deeper mixed league drafts.

Nationals | Denard Span to miss opener

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 07:20:30 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) underwent surgery to repair a hernia Monday, March 9, and will miss four to six weeks. OF Michael A. Taylor will receive the bulk of the repetitions in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Span could miss the first month of the season. He hit .302 with 94 runs scored and a career-high 31 steals. Now 31, Span is an OF5 devoid of much upside. As for Taylor, he's a decent late-round flyer. He hit .304 with 22 homers, 61 RBIs and 34 steals, mostly at Double-A Harrisburg last season.
