Braves | Atlanta resting three starters

Sun, 01 May 2016 10:44:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Daniel Castro, C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Jeff Francoeur are not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Sunday, May 1. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting fifth in the lineup. C Tyler Flowers will start at catcher and is batting sixth. 3B Adonis Garcia will start in left field, while 2B Jace Peterson will start at third base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is hitting better over the last few days but is not a great option since he has a .186 average this season. Flowers has gone hitless in his last six at-bats but could be used in two-catcher leagues since he is hitting .281 with four RBI. Peterson has struggled at the plate and can be avoided in all leagues.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will be DH

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:30:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will serve as the designated hitter against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. SS Daniel Castro will start at third base, while 2B Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has recorded three hits in his last six games and is hitting .179 this season. Owners should be able to find better players for their lineups and can avoid Johnson.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will see outfield starts

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:32:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will play left field against the majority of right-handed pitchers with 2B/OF Kelly Johnson, 2B Jace Peterson and SS Daniel Castro splitting time between second and third base. OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field against left-handed pitchers with Garcia playing third base.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has a respectable .287/.320/.469 slash line through 269 career plate appearances, and he can provide solid depth in the majority of seasonal leagues. However, he also has just six runs and six RBI to start the season, so there is limited upside. Peterson, Johnson, Castro and Francoeur are nothing more than low-end options in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Braves | ATL waiting on Adonis Garcia's glove

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 12:23:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia owns the worst fielding percentage (.793) of any major leaguer with at least 120 chances as a third baseman dating back to 1910. However, as the only Braves' only position player hitting better than .290, Atlanta is willing to deal with it as long as it believes his offense is superior to his defense.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has six errors on 29 chances this year, but the Braves are exercising patience in part because they lack other quality offensive options and know he is playing out of position. The 31-year-old is going to struggle to be anything more than a low-upside starting option in fantasy because his supporting cast doesn't figure to give him a lot of RBI opportunities or drive him in all that often.

Braves | Three-hit game for Adonis Garcia

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 22:32:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia went 3-for-5 with a run scored and RBI out of the cleanup spot Friday, April 22, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: The Cuban hot corner man has back-to-back multi-hit games, and he has managed six games with two or more hits through 16 outings. He is a solid fantasy option in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Braves | Adonis Garcia returns

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:36:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia (knee) returned to the lineup Thursday, April 21, and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia faces Clayton Kershaw today, but he hit .328-5-10 in 58 at-bats against lefties last season. Garcia is a low-end flyer worth consideration.

Braves | Adonis Garcia scratched

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 12:29:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia (knee) was scratched from the lineup with a left knee contusion Wednesday, April 20. 3B Daniel Castro replaces Garcia at third base and is hitting second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ross Stripling.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how serious Garcia's injury is, so check back for updates on his status going forward. Castro hit .240 with two home runs in 96 at-bats for Atlanta last year. He'll likely just be a utility infielder for the Braves and has more appeal for his glove than his bat. He's a low-end daily pick tonight.

Braves | Adonis Garcia pegged for cleanup spot?

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 14:05:55 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia could hit cleanup between 1B Freddie Freeman and OF Nick Markakis, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: While Garcia is likely best left to deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats, there is upside in the cushy lineup spot. He also hit 10 home runs with 26 RBI and a .497 slugging percentage through 198 plate appearances last season. Garcia is a player to watch in all formats, and with the lack of depth at the hot corner, you could take a much worse late-round flier.

Braves | Jace Peterson a super-utility player?

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 11:17:58 -0800

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson is moving around this diamond this spring and could become a super-utility player for Atlanta to give them more options in the lineup. Other infield options like 2B Gordon Beckham, 3B Adonis Garcia and OF Kelly Johnson could help Peterson become more productive in certain matchups. Beckham could split time at second with Peterson. Peterson has played second base, shortstop, third base and left field this spring.

Fantasy Tip: More avenues for playing time should help Peterson's fantasy cause, but all the possible platoon situations in Atlanta aren't enticing to fantasy owners. Peterson's best asset is his speed, but he doesn't make much contact and lacks power. He's an NL-only player for now.

Braves | Adonis Garcia exits game

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 11:18:28 -0800

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia (ankle) looked to turn his left ankle in spring action Tuesday, March 1, and he left the game, possibly as a precaution.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has raw power, but he's a free hacker that had a fortunate home-run-to-fly-ball rate. He's also on the wrong side of 30, so there is very little upside here. Save him for NL-only setups.
