Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports St. Louis Rams have re-signed OL Todd Steussie and will likely start him in Week 12. The team had placed Steussie on the injured reserve earlier in the season, but reached an injury settlement with him within five days of placing him on reserve and released him. A league rule allows a player to become a free agent if he is released within five days after being placed on injured reserve, then to sign with any other team initially, or to return to his original team after a waiting period. Steussie's waiting period to return to the Rams ended after Week 11, allowing the team to re-sign him this week and get him back on the field. Steussie will likely play at right guard or right tackle.

The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams OL Todd Steussie (foot) suffered a broken left foot Thursday, Aug. 30. Steussie was projected as a backup this season after making 15 starts for the team last year. He will be sidelined six to eight weeks and will undergo surgery as soon as possible. He will also be placed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list.

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports medicals records made public in court documents show St. Louis Rams OT Todd Steussie obtained illegal steroids on numerous occasions while with the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from Dr. James Shortt. Court documents showed seven instances in which Steussie received prescriptions for items such as testosterone or humane growth hormone, according to the Charlotte Observer. The paper claims Steussie had three prescriptions for testosterone cream from Shortt between March 1, 2003, and March 16, 2004. Each prescription was renewable up to five times.

Jacob Jordan, of the Associated Press, reports Jason M. Shortt, accused in a television report of writing illegal steroid prescriptions to three Carolina Panthers' players, was charged with 29 counts of distributing steroids and human growth hormones and one charge of conspiracy. The players named in a CBS News report in March were C Jeff Mitchell and former Panthers players P Todd Sauerbrun, now with the Denver Broncos, and OT Todd Steussie, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The players involved will most likely not face a suspension. Shortt is also being investigated in the death of a woman given hydrogen peroxide intravenously to treat her multiple sclerosis.

Ira Kaufman, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Todd Steussie is determined to land the starting left tackle job this year after an unsuccessful stint at right tackle last season. "Last year they asked me to play a position I'm not comfortable with," Steussie said. "I did it because they asked me to. But for 10 years, I played left tackle and I played it pretty damn well. Kenyatta Walker's a better right tackle than me, but now I'm back to my natural position. I plan on starting this year at some point." Steussie will need to beat out OT Anthony Davis, a feat he is anxious to face. "The reality is I'm giving Anthony Davis every bit of a run for his money as I can," Steussie said. "I'm going to continue to be on his heels all season long."

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports former Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl TE Wesley Walls was a patient of the South Carolina doctor at the center of a federal steroids investigation, according to an HBO report Friday Aug. 12. The "Costas Now" program did not say whether Walls obtained NFL-banned steroids or related substances from Dr. James Shortt. However, Shortt told interviewer Armen Keteyian that he provided anabolic steroids to about half of the one-to-two dozen NFL players he treated and that he injected human growth hormone (HGH) into most of them. Steroids and HGH are not allowed by the NFL or major pro sports. HGH is difficult to detect because scientists have yet to develop a reliable urine or blood test. Walls, who is retired, did not return telephone messages left Friday by the Observer and declined comment to HBO. He becomes the seventh Panther to be identified as a patient of Shortt. HBO also named ex-Panthers DE John Milem and two players from other teams - ex- New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins OG Dave Fiore and former Atlanta Falcons DE Henry Taylor - as patients of Shortt. Milem, the only player interviewed on the program, said he received HGH and supplements from Shortt. Taylor was quoted as saying he got HGH from Shortt but, in retrospect, said he exhibited poor judgment. Fiore's agent, Arthur Weiss, was quoted as saying Fiore saw Shortt twice to receive medical treatment for joint injuries, but that he never received a banned substance. CBS reported in March that C Jeff Mitchell, P Todd Sauerbrun and OT Todd Steussie filled prescriptions written by Shortt for NFL-banned steroids. Only Mitchell remains with the Panthers. Sauerbrun was traded to the Denver Broncos in May. Steussie plays for Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Fortunately, Todd wanted to come back at the minimum. We explored all options, including trades, but no one wants to trade in an offensive tackle right now. There's not a supplemental draft coming up, so yes, we signed Todd," said Allen.

Updating ongoing reports, according to Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times, with OT Kenyatta Walker (knee) still recovering from a knee injury and several rookie offensive linemen unsigned, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might consider keeping OT Todd Steussie as a safeguard if he agrees to restructure his contract, which would pay him $2 million in base salary this year. The speculation has been that Tampa Bay will release Steussie in order to free up salary cap space to sign their rookies. "There's a chance (he'll be back)," general manager Bruce Allen said of Steussie. "Let me answer it a different way: If there was no way he was going to be here, we would've already released him. But there are still some questions that need answers. We want to make sure where Kenyatta is right now."
