Astros | Jason Castro still out

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 10:10:27 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro (hand) is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum Sunday, July 24. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is hitting .357 with two home runs and four RBI over the last seven days and should be an attractive starting option in daily fantasy leagues.

Astros | Evan Gattis back with a bang

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 21:20:09 -0700

Houston Astros C-OF Evan Gattis (hand) returned to the lineup Saturday, July 23, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after missing the game Friday, July 22, due to a bruised right hand. He had two home runs and four RBIs in the return. It was his sixth-career multi-homer game.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to get Gattis back into the active fantasy lineup in all seasonal leagues, and he can be trusted again in DFS for his power potential. He did not show any lingering effects of his hand injury in this one.

Astros | Evan Gattis draws a start

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 14:04:03 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is in the starting lineup and will bat eighth against Los Angeles Angels SP Jered Weaver on Saturday, July 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis isn't the defender Jason Castro is being the plate and has seen his usual designated hitter role filled by a number of players lately, in part due to his .218 average. He's still worth starting in most 12-team-or-larger leagues due to his power, but owners need to recognize the at-bats might not be there like they once were.

Astros | Evan Gattis sitting vs. Angels

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:50:40 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis (hand) is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22, because his right hand is still swollen. C Jason Castro is starting behind the plate and batting ninth, and OF Preston Tucker is batting eighth as the designated hitter against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis' fantasy value is tied to his power and eligibility at catcher, and with 13 home runs and 36 RBI in just 69 games, he's delivering. Expect Gattis to be back in the lineup soon. Castro is seeing enough playing time to remain a low-end starter in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues and has 31 runs, six home runs and 22 RBI for the campaign. Tucker is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats given his .566 OPS this season.

Astros | Evan Gattis day-to-day

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 16:03:03 -0700

Houston Astros C/OF Evan Gattis (hand) is being listed as day-to-day with a hand contusion, according to manager A.J. Hinch. X-rays on Gattis' hand were negative.

Fantasy Tip: Before Wednesday, Gattis was batting a disappointing .220 but with 13 home runs and 36 RBI. He's never been a big average guy, and his power continues to be his main source of usefulness in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Be prepared to hold him out of your lineups over the next few days.

Astros | A.J. Reed, Jason Castro out

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:12:25 -0700

Houston Astros 1B A.J. Reed and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Dillon Overton Tuesday, July 19. OF Carlos Gomez will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Jake Marisnick will start at center field and is batting ninth. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick is hitting only .200 this season and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Gattis is hitting only .147 in July but is still a decent fantasy player in two-catcher leagues because of his power potential.

Astros | No Evan Gattis Monday

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 16:05:17 -0700

Houston Astros C/OF Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 18. C Jason Castro is behind the dish and is hitting ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman.

Fantasy Tip: Castro doesn't move the fantasy needle all that much and is hitting just .213 on the season with six home runs and 21 RBI. He's a second catcher in two-catcher and AL-only leagues, and his fantasy value is limited in DFS formats while hitting ninth tonight.

Astros | Colby Rasmus, A.J. Reed starting

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 10:32:05 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (ear) is batting sixth and playing left field against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Saturday, July 16. In addition, 1B A.J. Reed is batting eighth and serving as the designated hitter. C/DH Evan Gattis is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus is making his first appearance since July 6, but he is just 2-for-17 at the plate this month and is 4-for-22 (.182) in his career against Iwakuma, so he is not a recommended option this afternoon. Reed is 5-for-20 with two homers and three RBI in July and is worth considering as a value play in DFS due to his power potential.

Astros | Dallas Keuchel goes seven strong

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 15:46:12 -0700

Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel nearly came out on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel versus the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, July 10, but he settled for a no-decision when C Evan Gattis tied the game with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Keuchel allowed one run on four hits and a pair of walks while fanning five over seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: Houston won the game in the 10th on a throwing error. Although Keuchel hasn't come remotely close to matching his AL Cy Young Award-winning campaign last year, he is unbeaten over his last five outings, going 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA. He has struck out no more than six in those starts, however. Keuchel will take a 6-9 record, 4.80 ERA and 104 strikeouts over 120 innings of work into the All-Star break.

Astros | Colby Rasmus remains sidelined Saturday

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:25:39 -0700

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (ear) is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Saturday, July 9. INF/OF Marwin Gonzalez will bat leadoff and play left field. In addition, C/DH Evan Gattis will bat seventh and serve as the designated hitter, C Jason Castro will start behind the plate and bat eighth and OF Jake Marisnick will play right field and hit ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is a useful player to have in AL-only seasonal leagues due to his positional versatility but he is not a great option in DFS today. Gattis is just 1-for-18 during the month of July and should also be avoided, while Castro and Marisnick are not recommended options in any fantasy format.
