As expected, free-agent C Brian McCann rejected the Atlanta Braves' $14.1 million qualifying offer Monday, Nov. 11. McCann is already drawing interest from 10 teams on the open market. He could also re-sign with the Braves, although that seems unlikely. Cs Evan Gattis and Christian Bethancourt are options to take over at catcher for McCann next year.

Atlanta Braves C Brian McCann (groin) isn't dealing with a significant injury, and the team expects him to catch in the playoffs, with C Evan Gattis playing left field. However, McCann is expected to be rested in the final weekend of the regular season. "That's a nice thing, too, where he can have seven days of treatment and seven days of settling it down. Maybe we pinch hit him on Sunday just to get him an at-bat," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

The Atlanta Braves recalled C Evan Gattis from the minors Tuesday, Sept. 3, and inserted him into the starting lineup. Gattis was hitting only .139 in 36 at-bats in August but went 6-for-13 with two doubles and a home run in three games with Triple-A Gwinnett. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Gattis will likely play four of the next five games.

The Atlanta Braves have optioned C Evan Gattis to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Fantasy Tip: Gattis' stay in the minors will be short-lived, with Gwinnett only having three games remaining in their season. He's expected to receive approximately 12 plate appearances before rejoining the parent club after rosters have expanded, so this move appears to be a way to give him some extra playing time.

Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (jaw) will have surgery Thursday, Aug. 22, to fix two fractures in his jaw. He's expected to miss four to six weeks. Since June 9, he was hitting .291/.373/.495 and was .357/.426/.607 in his last 22 games. OFs B.J. Upton and Jordan Schafer or SS Andrelton Simmons are the candidates to move into the leadoff spot with Heyward out.
Fantasy Tip: As David Schoenfield notes, Schafer is probably the biggest beneficiary of PT with Heyward out. The Bravos could also mix in Evan Gattis in the outfield, too.

Atlanta Braves OF B.J. Upton (groin) doubled in both of his at-bats with Triple-A Gwinnett Thursday, Aug. 1. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in five innings Wednesday, July 31. "For the first time in two weeks facing live pitching, the at-bats were good," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He'll go again (Thursday and Friday) and we'll check with him and see if he needs a couple more days, more at-bats, before we bring him up here."
Fantasy Tip: When Upton returns, possibly this weekend, Evan Gattis will return to less-frequent at-bats, making it tough to hang onto him in deep mixed leagues if he's not playing every day.

Atlanta Braves OF B.J. Upton (adductor) did some running Monday, July 22, but he won't be able to come off the disabled list when he's eligible this weekend. Upton will first go on a rehab assignment.
Fantasy Tip: Jason Heyward will be put into center field until Upton can return, which allows the Bravos to put Evan Gattis in left field. This will give Gattis a boost in short-term deep mixed value.

Atlanta Braves C Gerald Laird (hand) left the game against the Chicago White Sox Sunday, July 21, in the fourth inning, after suffering a left hand contusion when he was hit by a pitched ball. He was replaced behind the plate by Evan Gattis, who had started the game in left field.

The Atlanta Braves are optimistic that OFs Jason Heyward (hamstring) and Justin Upton (calf) will be back in the lineup Friday, July 18.
Fantasy Tip: With B.J. Upton (adductor) going on the disabled list, expect Evan Gattis to see more time in the outfield.
