Reds | Keyvius Sampson on losing streak

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 04:36:18 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson lost his fifth straight start Sunday, Sept. 27, as he allowed five runs on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings in an 8-1 loss to the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Sampson ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) was largely nicked up by a patchwork Mets lineup with several starters getting a rest the day after clinching the National League East. That doesn't bode well for his success the rest of the way in 2015 and casts a shadow on whether he will be a 2016 rotation candidate.

Brewers | Khris Davis out of Game 2 Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 15:02:37 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader with the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, Sept. 5. OF Shane Peterson is in left field and batting fifth against Reds SP Keyvius Sampson.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is merely out of the lineup to get him some rest. Peterson ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is hitless in his three September at-bats and has no fantasy value.

Brewers | Jonathan Lucroy not in Game 2 lineup

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 14:56:39 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy is out of the starting lineup Saturday, Sept. 5, against the Cincinnati Reds. C Martin Maldonado is starting and batting eighth against Reds SP Keyvius Sampson.

Fantasy Tip: Lucroy ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is simply getting a rest after catching the first game of the double dip. Maldonado ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) may be a cheap source of points thanks to his .667 average in the past week.

Reds | Cincy youngsters to be limited

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 16:31:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said all of the team's young pitchers, including SPs Anthony DeSclafani, Michael Lorenzen, Raisel Iglesias, David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson, Robert Stephenson, Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb will have their innings monitored as the season wears on. "The biggest challenge is for a lot of guys who will be considered for call-ups for September or even earlier. We'll have guys who don't have that first major-league season where they pitched in September and had a chance to take their workload from 145 innings or 150 to 175 or 185. We'll have a lot of guys who we'll have to be cautious with their innings."

Fantasy Tip: That's not what owners of any of these pitchers want to hear, but it's a reality that often affects all young pitchers and their fantasy owners as the season winds down. On FantasyScore, none of the Reds young pitchers is ever a slam dunk, and their daily value will likely only continue to plummet if they are kept on pitch counts or innings limits.

Reds | Keyvius Sampson joining the rotation

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 16:11:08 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson will join the starting rotation and start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Through 39 innings with Class AAA Louisville, Sampson had a 5.08 ERA, a 1.59 WHIP and a 7.6 K/9, so fantasy owners should keep their expectations in check. Still, he'll hold value in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, if he sticks in the rotation. FantasyScore players should take a wait-and-see approach.

Reds | Trio of options for CIN rotation spot

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 19:46:14 -0700

The Cincinnati Reds need a pitcher to replace SP Jon Moscot (shoulder) in the rotation, and the options are SPs David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson and Josh Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Moscot is likely to be sidelined a while due to a dislocation of his shoulder, so the replacement pitcher has a chance to be in the rotation for a while. FantasyScore players could find great value in the replacement.

Padres | Andrew Cashner to DL

Sat, 17 May 2014 13:10:09 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner has been good this season, despite low run support, with a 2.35 ERA and 47 K's in 57 1/3 innings. Juan Pablo Oramas or Keyvius Sampson could be options to replace Cashner at Triple-A El Paso. Neither has much value outside of NL-only leagues, but they have potential with K/9s close to 9.00 on the season.

Padres | Prospects likely to get look

Sun, 25 Aug 2013 20:29:50 -0700

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black indicated Sunday, Aug. 25, that one or more of the team's top prospects might be promoted when rosters expand Sept. 1. P Keyvius Sampson and OF Reymond Fuentes are leading candidates to come up. "I don't know that you'll see both, but you'll see one of them, for sure," Black said.
