Chargers | Travis Benjamin adds new element

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 21:34:23 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's ability to stretch the field should open up space for intermediate passing routes, and QB Philip Rivers said it took him a while to adjust to Benjamin's speed and realize he couldn't overthrow him on deep routes.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin won't be as consistent as Keenan Allen or Antonio Gates, but he should deliver his share of big plays and have an occasional big game. He is an all-or-nothing play in standard leagues and daily formats.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin has quiet debut

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 05:37:31 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin caught one pass for 11 yards in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals Friday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin missed some time during training camp because of an injury but should be more involved in the offense moving forward. He likely will be one of the starting receivers this season and can be a No. 4 wide receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin building trust with Rivers

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 23:32:02 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin was singled out by QB Philip Rivers for his work during a joint practice against the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, Aug. 16, specifically for their timing on a comeback route that Rivers deemed his "favorite play" of the evening.

Fantasy Tip: Consider what Benjamin did in Cleveland with no viable QB, and what Rivers did in San Diego with a patchwork line and receiving corps. If the two can get on the same page early they could do some damage over a 16-game slate. Benjamin is best suited as a No. 4 fantasy wideout, but there's sneaky upside there.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin practicing

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 16:24:07 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed) is participating in practice Monday, Aug. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin missed a little over a week because of the injury and probably will be eased back into practice. He likely will be a starter this season and should receive a solid amount of targets in the passing game. Benjamin probably can be a decent No. 4 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin to be returner

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 16:30:47 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin will be the team's punt returner in 2016. Benjamin may not be used as a returner as often if he receives significant snaps at wide receiver.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin should have a solid role in the passing game this season and likely will be on the field most of the time. He should be a middle- to late-round pick in most drafts this season. Owners in leagues that count return stats should have interest in Benjamin.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin absent Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:08:29 -0700

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed) did not participate in any drills at minicamp Wednesday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin's absence is probably nothing to be overly concerned about. He'll enter the 2016 season as the Chargers' No. 2 wide receiver and should be a WR4 option in standard fantasy drafts.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin contract details

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:56:25 -0800

Updating a previous report, the San Diego Chargers agreed with WR Travis Benjamin on a four-year, $24 million deal Wednesday, March 9. The deal includes $13 million guaranteed and $18 million in the first three years.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin provides the Bolts with a valuable deep threat now that Malcom Floyd is retired. He'll help Philip Rivers stretch the field and could be a really nice WR3 for fantasy owners, but he has more value in traditional fantasy leagues because of his boom-or-bust personality as a deep threat.

Chargers | Travis Benjamin headed to San Diego

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 06:37:33 -0800

Free-agent WR Travis Benjamin (Browns) has agreed to a deal with the San Diego Chargers Wednesday, March 9. Benjamin's deal is expected to eclipse $6 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has teased us with a few big games, and the speedster will have a ton of protection with Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates running patterns with him. He'll be in the WR3 mix with room for more.

Falcons | Atlanta eyeing Travis Benjamin

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:08:45 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin has drawn interest from the Atlanta Falcons, according to a source. Benjamin played for current Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Cleveland in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: This year's free-agent market for wide receivers is a relatively weak one, making Benjamin one of the better free-agent receivers this year. The Falcons may have to pay up if they really want Benjamin. He would be the No. 2 wide receiver in Atlanta if signed, but he shouldn't be considered more than a low-end WR2 in the fantasy realm.

Browns | Travis Benjamin dialogue continues

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 06:53:33 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin continues to talk with the Browns about a new deal, according to executive vice president Sashi Brown.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin showed some flashes, but the entire team struggled to find consistency. He could be a solid WR4 flyer in 2016.

Browns | Keeping free agents difficult

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 13:21:32 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agents FS Tashaun Gipson, OT Mitchell Schwartz and C Alex Mack will be difficult to retain, according to head coach Hue Jackson. "I would love to keep them all. But again, they have to want to stay. It goes both ways," Jackson said. Impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin's talks with the Browns and he will enter the free-agent market, as reported earlier.

Browns | Travis Benjamin to enter market

Tue, 23 Feb 2016 15:24:20 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin's talks with the Browns have broken down and he will enter the free-agent market, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin will be one of the bigger names among free-agent wide receivers this offseason. He was the No. 1 wide receiver on the Browns last season and added extra fantasy value with his punt returning. He'll remain a deep threat wherever he goes, but it's still too early to gauge what his value will be in 2016.

Browns | Travis Benjamin, Cleveland near deal

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 19:06:31 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin is nearing a deal with the team, beat writer Tony Grossi said Monday, Feb. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin had a breakout season with 68 grabs for 966 yards and five touchdowns, although he cooled off down the stretch with just one touchdown in his final 13 games after four scores in the first three. He could be a solid No. 3 or 4 fantasy wide receiver in 2016, especially if Josh Gordon returns to the team and the organization upgrades its quarterback situation as expected.

Browns | Travis Benjamin to re-sign soon?

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 17:40:34 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin could be re-signed to a new contract shortly, according to ESPNCleveland.com's Tony Grossi.

Fantasy Tip: It's important for the Browns to bring back Benjamin as he was undoubtedly their best wide receiver last season. He also gives Cleveland one of the better punt returners in the NFL, which gives him added fantasy value, too. He's in WR3 territory.

Browns | Travis Benjamin likely staying

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 13:17:54 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin said he could get a deal done with the Browns before March. Furthermore, he spoke with new head coach Hue Jackson, who said he loves Benjamin's skill set and that 2016 will hopefully be a great season for the Browns.

Fantasy Tip: The writing seems to be on the wall for Benjamin to stay in Cleveland. They'll need him, too, as he was far and away their most productive wide receiver last season. He also gives them one of the league's best punt returners. The quarterback situation isn't ideal, though. Consider Benjamin a WR3.

Browns | Travis Benjamin deal done soon?

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 13:34:52 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin may receive a new deal in the near future, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin is certainly worth of a new contract following last season. He was by far Cleveland's No. 1 wide receiver and a big threat as a punt returner. He may not be the most reliable starter in the fantasy football realm, partly due to inconsistent quarterback play, but view him as a WR3 for 2016.

Browns | Travis Benjamin a priority for Browns?

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 12:13:37 -0800

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin could be a top priority for the Browns this offseason after totaling 68 catches for 966 yards and five touchdowns. He was also fourth in the NFL with 11.6 yards per punt return.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin was by far Cleveland's best wide receiver in 2015, and the second best pass-catcher on the team behind Gary Barnidge. He provides the Browns with a serious deep threat and a lethal punt returner.

Browns | Travis Benjamin to face Pittsburgh

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 09:09:20 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ankle) is active for Week 17's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) was listed as questionable after serving as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 31, and Friday, Jan. 1. He merits consideration as a FantasyScore value play this afternoon.

Browns | Travis Benjamin questionable for Week 17

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 14:17:54 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and he is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has upside at a cheap price for FantasyScore players, especially against the Steeler's leaky defense. Still, with Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0%) under center, he is far from a sure thing, especially with the limited repetitions in practice through the week.

Browns | Travis Benjamin listed as limited

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 17:02:52 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Benjamin ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a decent chance to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, so owners should keep an eye on his situation. He had success against the Steelers earlier this season and could be a cheaper option to consider on FantasyScore.

Browns | No practice for Travis Benjamin

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 14:39:37 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ankle) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) had another disappointing week last week, and now he's facing the real likelihood that Johnny Manziel (concussion) will be out in the season finale. Even in a great matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Benjamin is too shaky a daily commodity with Austin Davis throwing him passes.

Browns | Travis Benjamin's slump continues

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 17:29:09 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had three catches for 26 yards in a 30-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, and he has managed just 67 receiving yards combined over the last three games.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been up and down all year, and he has really struggled recently against tough opponents. He is an all-or-nothing option at FantasyScore.

Browns | Travis Benjamin to play against SF

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 07:00:58 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) will play in Week 14's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is the most productive Browns receiver from a fantasy standpoint and his cap-friendly price should make him a popular selection as a flex player for FantasyScore lineups, given the favorable matchup against the San Francisco secondary.

Browns | Contract extension for Travis Benjamin?

Sat, 12 Dec 2015 17:12:07 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin is working out a contract extension with the team, and Benjamin said the two sides are close to having a deal.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has emerged as a big-play threat for the Browns, and while he isn't the most consistent option, he offers intriguing upside for the price at FantasyScore.

Browns | Three Cleveland WRs questionable

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 16:43:46 -0800

Cleveland Browns WRs Travis Benjamin (shoulder), Taylor Gabriel (concussion) and Brian Hartline (hip) are listed as questionable for the Week 14 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Benjamin and Hartline were limited during practice, while Gabriel fully participated in practice.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check to see which receivers will be active for the game. Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is the best fantasy option among the Browns receivers this season and could be a starting option if he is active. Owners probably can pass on Gabriel ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Hartline ($2,000, 4.0% of cap).

Browns | Three Browns receivers limited

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 16:21:03 -0800

Cleveland Browns WRs Travis Benjamin (shoulder), Taylor Gabriel (concussion) and Brian Hartline (hip) were all limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) says he'll play against the San Francisco 49ers, and it's certainly a good matchup for receivers. Benjamin and Johnny Manziel have developed a deep connection when they've worked together. Gabriel ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Hartline ($2,000) are both desperation sleeper picks on FantasyScore.

Browns | Travis Benjamin will be able to play

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 14:51:56 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) said he will be able to play in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will once again be taking throws from Johnny Manziel in Week 14, and Manziel has shown some real nice downfield chemistry with the quick receiver. Benjamin isn't a terrible flex pick on FantasyScore with Manziel returning to the starting role against the Niners.

Browns | Travis Benjamin sits out

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:51:57 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) is out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has some success in the past with Johnny Manziel throwing to him. If he's able to suit up, he's a decent flex option on FantasyScore at a midrange price.

Browns | Travis Benjamin won't miss time

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 11:26:25 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) isn't expected to miss time after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Brian Hartline really benefitted from Benjamin's absence, but Benjamin and Gary Barnidge should continue to be Cleveland's top-two targets even with Johnny Manziel starting at quarterback.

Browns | Travis Benjamin won't return

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 11:59:18 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (shoulder) has been ruled out against the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, Dec. 6, with a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin is by far the Browns' best receiver this year, so he will need to be monitored after the game and throughout the week. If he misses extended time, Brian Hartline should see an uptick in targets.

Browns | Travis Benjamin gets loose for score

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 21:52:30 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin posted six receptions for 90 yards in the Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens Monday, Nov. 30, including a 42-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He was targeted 13 times.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin has been one of the most exciting players this season for the Browns, and is really the only Cleveland player fantasy owners should be looking to on a regular basis outside of perhaps Gary Barnidge.

Browns | Shorter passes for Travis Benjamin?

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 14:41:42 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin averaged 7.5 more yards per reception with QB Johnny Manziel than he has with QB Josh McCown.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is by far the Browns' best and most productive wide receiver this year. He's still not a bad play with McCown starting; his targets may not just be as deep. Benjamin is a good start this week versus the Baltimore Ravens despite the change at quarterback.

Browns | Travis Benjamin breaks out

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 16:30:46 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had seven catches on 11 targets for 113 yards in a 30-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) had failed to reach 50 yards in his three previous games, and the speedy receiver remains a high-risk, high-reward lottery ticket at FantasyScore.

Browns | Travis Benjamin with sure hands

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 09:03:29 -0800

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin has the most targets (71) without a drop in the NFL this season.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) could receive a boost with Josh McCown (ribs) possibly returning. He has a good matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers and is a low-end flex option on FantasyScore.

Browns | Travis Benjamin posts nine grabs

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 20:47:16 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had nine receptions for 117 yards in the Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos. He was targeted a team-high 13 times.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has not scored a touchdown over his past three games, but he does have 79 or more receiving yards in each of the outings. He remains a decent WR3 or flex option in FantasyScore and he comes with a nice mid-tier price tag.

Browns | Travis Benjamin will be ready

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 13:33:03 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ribs) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 2, and is probable for Week 4 against the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has had better chemistry so far with Johnny Manziel under center, and he's best used in standard-scoring leagues and not point-per-reception formats. The Chargers have held their own so far against opposing wideouts, too, so Benjamin isn't the sexiest daily pick.

Browns | Travis Benjamin takes part in practice

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 14:10:27 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ribs) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has become the team's No. 1 receiver and should continue to receive a good amount of targets. Benjamin could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore this week.

Browns | Travis Benjamin limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 15:19:17 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin is on one of the hotter streaks in football right now, scoring four touchdowns in the first three games of the season. He's a riskier play this week, however, against a San Diego Chargers defense that is allowing just 193.7 receiving yards per game -- least in the NFL.

Browns | Travis Benjamin scores again

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 18:44:22 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had four receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Week 3 game against the Oakland Raiders. It was his fourth touchdown reception in three games, with at least one in each outing.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) was a tremendous value for FantasyScore players, although it looked like he was going to disappoint until a fourth quarter touchdown. Josh McCown was trying to find him again for a score in the closing minutes, but the ball was intercepted. Benjamin has quickly emerged as the only Cleveland player worth using in FantasyScore.

Browns | Travis Benjamin makes bold claim

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 18:38:34 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin said that he is the fastest player in the NFL. "I would say so," Benjamin said. "You've never seen a player just put speed on tape each and every time."

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is coming off a three-touchdown performance, and he is averaging a league-best 34.0 yards per catch. His dependence on big plays makes him a boom-or-bust option at FantasyScore, but he isnít a bad sleeper to gamble on in Week 3 when the Browns face a Raiders team allowing 33.0 points per game.

Browns | Receiving game lacking for Browns

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 08:12:15 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin has caught the NFL on fire so far with six catches for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He has all of the Browns' receiving touchdowns and more than half of their receiving yards through two games. Overall, however, Cleveland's receiving game is at the bottom of the league. They are last in catches (26) and 30th in receiving yards (403).

Fantasy Tip: It was to be expected that the Browns would be subpar in the receiving game this year. Their wide receiver corps is far from impressive. Benjamin's pace will decrease as the season progresses and the quarterback play, whether it be from Josh McCown or Johnny Manziel, is unreliable.

Browns | Travis Benjamin totals three TDs

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 18:44:03 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had three receptions for 115 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, and he added a 78-yard punt return for score.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is going to be a very popular addition off the waiver wire in standard fantasy formats this week. In FantasyScore, he is worth a look in Week 3 against a Raiders pass defense which has been trampled in their first two games.

Browns | Travis Benjamin posts game high

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 19:18:09 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin had three receptions for a game-high 89 yards with a touchdown in the Week 1 game against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Someone has to step up for the Browns, and Benjamin ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has plenty of speed to burn. Going forward he is worth a look in FantasyScore, especially if Dwayne Bowe continues to miss time.
