Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler said he is not worried about losing time to rookie WR Ryan Broyles. Scheffler frequently played in the slot in the team's two-tight end personnel groupings last season, but Broyles has the skill-set to make plays from the slot as well. "It's one of those things in the NFL where you learn to take care of your business and, as long as I do my job, I'm not really concerned with how he (Broyles) fits in," Scheffler said. "I'll help him out. We'll do a lot of similar stuff, so it's fun to have him. He's a great athlete and shoot, he's one of the best college wide receivers that ever played."

The Detroit Lions saw wide receiver as one of their needs entering the 2012 NFL Draft which is why they selected WR Ryan Broyles in the second round. They wanted to take a receiver because they did not have much depth behind WRs Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and Titus Young.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Saturday, May 12, that he isn't ruling out WR Ryan Broyles (knee) for the regular season opener. "We'll see," Schwartz said. "There's a lot of ground between now and then, but he's on a good path. He's had a good rehab so far, he showed it in his pro day and he's shown it here. It depends on what happens between now and then."

Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) could start his pro career on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Broyles tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a game last season. "He's a possible PUP guy, but I think at some point during camp he'll be ready to go," general manager Martin Mayhew said. "The great thing with him is, we have the ability to take our time and get him healthy and get him on the field."
