The Detroit Lions placed WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') on the season-ending Injured Reserve Wednesday, Oct. 30, and activated RB Montell Owens (knee) from the short-term Injured Reserve in a corresponding move.
Mon, 28 Oct 2013 10:23:17 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon in the team's Week 8 game and will miss the rest of the season. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday, Oct. 29, to repair the injury.
Fantasy Tip: With Broyles out, Kris Durham likely will get a bigger role in the passing game moving forward. Durham should be added in all deeper leagues.
Sun, 27 Oct 2013 19:33:08 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Jeremy Ross started at kick return in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he finished as the punt return man, too, after WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') left with a serious injury.
Sun, 27 Oct 2013 14:24:12 -0700
Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Sunday, Oct. 27, that the initial diagnosis for WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') is a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Broyles left the Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys and was obviously unable to return.
Sun, 27 Oct 2013 12:03:57 -0700

Sun, 27 Oct 2013 11:57:12 -0700
Detroit Lions CB Bill Bentley (knee) and WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') are both listed as questionable to return to Week 8's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Thu, 17 Oct 2013 12:43:55 -0700
The Detroit Lions are being patient with WR Ryan Broyles because they weren't expecting him to play before October while he came back from his second anterior cruciate ligament tear in as many years. He sat out the first two games and played just 17 snaps in week 3, but the team had to accelerate his progress when WR Nate Burleson went down with a broken forearm. Broyles' production has been minimal, though, even though he's played almost 40 snaps per game without Burleson in the lineup. Many times, the coverage has dictated that Detroit go away from the slot receiver, Broyles' position.
Fantasy Tip: There is a glimmer of hope for Broyles still because this is around the same time last year that he started becoming consistently involved in the offense. However, Kris Durham has stepped up and Calvin Johnson (knee) seems to be returning to full health. There are many mouths to feed in Detroit. Don't forget about Broyles, but he hasn't given you any reason to hang onto him in shallow leagues.
Fri, 11 Oct 2013 11:25:28 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) was limited in practice for the second straight day Friday, Oct. 11, and he practiced without wearing a knee brace. However, he struggled when he had to cut in his routes and will be a game-time decision in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fantasy Tip: Megatron clearly isn't 100 percent and won't be even if he plays Sunday, but if he's on the field, you should have him in your lineup. The fact that he's practicing without the knee brace is a good sign. Check back Sunday morning to see if he plays. If he doesn't, Kris Durham, Ryan Broyles and Patrick Edwards will try to pick up the slack in the passing game. It'll be a crapshoot to rely on any of those three.
Fri, 11 Oct 2013 09:57:35 -0700
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan suggested that he thinks WR Ryan Broyles is ready for a full workload this week regardless of whether WR Calvin Johnson (knee) returns to the lineup. "He's right on track so we're real happy he's been able to get this time and progress. Certainly if somebody else isn't available, his availability is going to be leaned on a little bit more." Linehan said that the initial plan this season for Broyles was similar to last year when he was recovering from his knee injury and didn't see any real action until the sixth game of the season.
Fantasy Tip: If you're in a deeper league, it may pay off to hold onto Broyles. His chances for contributing are probably much greater this week if Johnson returns, too. Broyles remains a very risky play, though, until we actually see his involvement in the game plan increase.
Thu, 10 Oct 2013 16:16:41 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) said he's ready to take on a bigger role in the offense after coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last season. "I feel good," Broyles said. "I feel capable of going out there and making plays. I feel like I want to do more." He's played in 87 of 202 offensive snaps (43.1 percent) since returning this year and has been targeted just six times. Broyles has five catches for 61 yards. And he played in 28 snaps last week, which was close to half as many as he had the week prior.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles is a risky play until Detroit shows that they are committed to getting him more involved in the game plan. That probably won't happen right away, either, especially since it's looking like Calvin Johnson (knee) could return this weekend. Keep Broyles benched for now.
Mon, 07 Oct 2013 10:32:55 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles had just two catches for 27 yards on two targets in the team's Week 5 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Broyles ran only 15 routes compared to 46 for WR Kris Durham and 41 for WR Patrick Edwards.
Fantasy Tip: Many believed Broyles' production would soar with Calvin Johnson (knee) sitting out, but that wasn't the case at all. Durham, Edwards and even Kevin Ogletree were looked to more often than Broyles. This suggests they are still easing Broyles into his role. Until we see more from him, he's better off riding pine on your bench.
Sun, 06 Oct 2013 08:30:05 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) has been declared inactive for Week 5.
Fantasy Tip: With Johnson out, Ryan Broyles and Patrick Edwards likely will start at wide receiver with Kris Durham seeing more playing time. Broyles can be a starting option for owners this week, but Edwards and Durahm probably are nothing more than weak flex options in most leagues. Reggie Bush could become more involved in the passing game because of Johnson's injury.
Tue, 01 Oct 2013 16:52:59 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Kris Durham played in 92 percent of the team's 66 offensive snaps in Week 4 win over the Chicago Bears and scored his first touchdown of the season with WRs Patrick Edwards (ankle) and Nate Burleson (forearm) out. Durham played two snaps less than WR Calvin Johnson and 20 more than WR Ryan Broyles. Durham finished with three catches for 58 yards, a career high for him. "It gives me some confidence," Durham said. "I think it gives Matthew some confidence in me. I was in the right place at the right time and made good throws, good catches."
Fantasy Tip: Durham has short-term sleeper value with Burleson out if Edwards misses another game this week. The matchup against the Green Bay Packers is intriguing, too, especially if Broyles isn't exactly 100 percent up to speed.
Fri, 27 Sep 2013 15:11:42 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Patrick Edwards (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and is doubtful for Week 4.
Fantasy Tip: If Edwards doesn't play, as expected, it gives more value to Ryan Broyles, who is guaranteed to have a much bigger role while Nate Burleson (arm) is out. Grab Broyles immediately if he's still available.
Wed, 25 Sep 2013 07:38:28 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles will not be on a limited snap count in Week 4.
Tue, 24 Sep 2013 06:07:39 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson (arm) broke his arm in two places in a car accident Tuesday, Sept. 24, and will undergo surgery. He's out indefinitely. Alcohol was not involved in the incident. WR Ryan Broyles will take over as the primary slot receiver.
Fantasy Tip: Tough luck for Burleson and the team, after he began the season with 23 catches for 239 yards. Detroit's prolific offense should find Broyles the ball, and he's a good pickup as a bye-week fill-in.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 15:06:45 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles caught all three of the passes thrown his way in Week 3 for 34 yards.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles is a candidate to add to your roster in deeper leagues if you're struggling with wide receiver depth.
Sat, 21 Sep 2013 16:46:05 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles is expected to be active for Week 3 because WR Patrick Edwards (ankle) has been ruled out. Broyles was inactive for the first two games of the season.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 13:09:39 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) said he is ready to return to action after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Even offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Broyles is ready. "This is a big week," Linehan said. "With Pat (Edwards, receiver) banged up a little bit right now, Ryan has stepped up his role and his reps this week. He's definitely close, and if called upon, he's ready." Edwards injured his ankle last week and hasn't practiced since. Broyles is primarily a slot receiver, so WR Nate Burleson could be moved outside to accommodate him. Broyles isn't ready to play 30 or 40 snaps in a game yet, but he said he's close to full strength.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles will steadily begin to see action, probably beginning this weekend. He may have the most upside out of any player on your waiver wire, especially in the Lions' high-flying attack. If you're hurting at wideout, it would be a good idea to grab Broyles now.
Wed, 18 Sep 2013 08:54:04 -0700
Detroit Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee), Patrick Edwards (ankle), OT Jason Fox (groin) and Don Carey (hamstring) are not practicing Wednesday, Sept. 18. DT Nick Fairley (shoulder) was limited, and WR Ryan Broyles (knee) was on the field early.
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 11:26:29 -0700

Sun, 08 Sep 2013 08:44:25 -0700
The Detroit Lions have declared DL Devin Taylor, CB Jonte Green, QB Kellen Moore, OT LaAdrian Waddle, OG Leroy Harris, RB Mikel Leshoure, WR Ryan Broyles inactive for Week 1.
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 08:42:20 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) and RB Mikel Leshoure are both inactive for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles needs to be owned in all leagues despite being inactive. He should be a valuable weapon for Matthew Stafford when he's on the field and makes for a good WR depth piece. Leshoure is a healthy inactive, which confirms that Joique Bell is the better back to own if you're handcuffing Reggie Bush.
Mon, 26 Aug 2013 17:51:04 -0700
Detroit Lions FS Louis Delmas (knee), FS John Wendling (knee), RB Montell Owens (knee), WR Ryan Broyles knee) and OG Leroy Harris (knee) all did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 26.
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 09:44:24 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz indicated Tuesday, Aug. 13, that WR Ryan Broyles (knee) has a new practice schedule. The team is trying to keep him fresh for the regular season, trying to limit any soreness in his surgically repaired knee. "We're flexible with his schedule, but he's been going about two days on and one day off now," Schwartz said.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles showed some glimpses of brilliance last season, and can be a valuable fantasy asset in the high-octane Detroit offense when he is healthy. He has been going off the board in the neighborhood of Rounds 10 through 12 in standard fantasy formats.
Fri, 09 Aug 2013 15:17:32 -0700

Mon, 05 Aug 2013 12:57:58 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) has shown precise route running and the ability to find the open spaces in a defense during training camp. Head coach Jim Schwartz said the team likes Broyles' ability to get open against different defenses. "He has that intangible of being able to get open," Schwartz said. "He's got good body control. He's got really good hands. He's very strong for his size. He might be small, but he's very strong. He just knows how to set up defenders. Plus, he has a really good feel for zones and how to stay open in zones. You can get open in zones, but you have to stay open and a lot of that depends on you knowing how the defense is going to react and where the spots in there are."
Fri, 02 Aug 2013 18:14:01 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Patrick Edwards has worked frequently with the first team offense during training camp, taking snaps in place of WRs Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles.
Fantasy Tip: Edwards will still need to finish camp well, and perform well in preseason games to rise on the depth chart. However, he is one of the biggest surprises in Detroit's camp, and he could emerge as a useful WR4 or flex player in fantasy leagues if he can win, let's say, the No. 3 job in Motown.
Fri, 26 Jul 2013 11:49:41 -0700
The Detroit Lions have 13 wide receivers on their roster heading into training camp, and they're looking for depth in case injuries strike again at the position. The favorite for the No. 4 job behind WRs Calvin Johnson, Ryan Broyles and Nate Burleson has been WR Patrick Edwards. He is a bit undersized at 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, but impressed during offseason workouts. It appears he and newcomer WR Chaz Schilens will jockey for the No. 4 job, and WRs Kris Durham, Corey Fuller and Michael Spurlock also could factor in.
Tue, 02 Jul 2013 06:40:43 -0700
Detroit Lions WRs Nate Burleson (leg) and Ryan Broyles (knee) are far ahead of schedule in their rehab from injuries that ended their 2012 seasons.

Mon, 17 Jun 2013 10:08:23 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) expects to be ready for the 2013 season as he continues rehabbing the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He participated fully in all three days he was active for Detroit's minicamp last week. Broyles said he learned how to take more care this time because he had experience in tearing his left knee back in 2011 at Oklahoma.
Fantasy Tip: A healthy Broyles could offer late-round value, more definitively in PPR leagues.
Fri, 14 Jun 2013 06:16:47 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) expects to avoid the Physically Unable to Perform list and was a full participant in all three days of minicamp this week.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 11:35:28 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) was able to fully participate in practice for the second consecutive day Wednesday, June 12.
Fri, 31 May 2013 11:14:48 -0700
Detroit Lions WR Patrick Edwards, who missed out on a chance to join the active roster last year due to an injury, has impressed the coaches during a minicamp over the weekend. Edwards finished his career at the University of Houston with 291 catches for 4,507 yards and 43 touchdowns, but he went undrafted in 2012. "He's a lot stronger right now than he was last year," head coach Jim Schwartz said. "He runs much better routes. He has a much better understanding of the offense, which you would expect. He's always had the ability to make a play. He's another guy that's in the mix returning kicks and punts."
Fantasy Tip: With Ryan Broyles rehabbing from a torn ACL, Edwards has an excellent opportunity to move up the depth chart and become the No. 3 wide receiver to start the year. In an offense that should continue to be explosive through the air, Edwards could be a deep sleeper if defenses put all their effort into shutting down Calvin Johnson. Keep Edwards' name in the back of your mind.
Wed, 29 May 2013 13:05:08 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said WR Ryan Broyles (knee) is making progress in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but there is no timetable for his return. "There is really no such thing as a target (to return), but he's making good progress. He's working through, almost in the same position he was last year with the exception of he knows the offense and he had a little bit of experience last year. It's just a matter of getting healthy."
Thu, 16 May 2013 12:34:01 -0700
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team drafted WR Ryan Broyles in part because of his return abilities.
Tue, 05 Feb 2013 06:31:25 -0800
Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson (leg) and WR Ryan Broyles (knee) could have larger roles in the offense next season with WR Titus Young gone. Burleson is coming off a broken leg but should be ready for the start of the offseason program. Broyles is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament and won't be ready until training camp.
Mon, 04 Feb 2013 11:41:06 -0800
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) has begun running in a swimming pool as part of his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and hopes to be ready for the start of the regular season. He said this rehab should be easier than his first torn ACL recovery because he knows what to expect.

Mon, 03 Dec 2012 11:26:40 -0800
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Week 13 and will miss the rest of the season.
Fantasy Tip: Broyles' injury comes at a bad time since he recently became a starter and was coming off a terrific game in Week 12. Mike Thomas likely will take over the starting job but likely will not have much fantasy value except in very deep leagues. Joique Bell, Brandon Pettigrew and Tony Scheffler could receive more targets in the passing game moving forward, which should help their value. Owners thinking that this will help Titus Young are mistaken because he is still not with the team.
Sun, 02 Dec 2012 10:34:56 -0800
Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (knee) left the game early Week 13 because of a knee injury Week 13 and is considered questionable to return.
