NFL | Black Denies All Allegations

Tue, 06 Jul 1999 07:15:00 -0700

As a follow-up to an earlier story, the AP reports that agent Tank Black has written his response to the NFLPA and he has denied all allegations made against him. The AP, who has obtained copies of his document, reports that the document contains affidavits from six players who all deny receiving illegal payments from Black. NFLPA attorney Richard Berthelsen said Monday he was not aware of any written statement from the players exonerating Black. "The only statement I'm aware of is one Johnny Rutledge has made to the contrary," he said. "Black has not done anything wrong or broken any rules," the response reads. "Yet, the NFLPA has singled out Black and marked him as though he has been tried for and convicted of a crime."

Cardinals | Off The Field News

Wed, 02 Jun 1999 20:55:00 -0700

David Newton, reporting for The State (Columbia, South Carolina), writes that Cardinals draft pick and former Florida LB Johnny Rutledge says that agent Tank Black provided him $500 a month during the past year in exchange for his signing a contract with Black's company. Rutledge also said teammates and fellow draftees Jevon Kearse and Reggie McGrew admitted taking money from Black's company, Professional Management Inc., during interviews in May with campus police. If found guilty in Florida, Black could lose his license with the NFLPA, receive five years in prison and a maximum of $5,000 in fines. Black denies all of the allegations made by Rutledge.
