Red Sox | No David Ortiz Monday

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:41:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup in a National League park Monday, April 25. 3B Travis Shaw moves over to first base and is hitting cleanup, while 2B Josh Rutledge draws the start at the hot corner and is batting fifth against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran.

Fantasy Tip: Ortiz may only start one game against Atlanta at first base during the series, so make sure to remove him from your lineups tonight. Shaw receives a slight daily boost hitting cleanup against a pitcher that has been shaky to begin the year. Rutledge is a deep sleeper option for daily formats with three hits in just five at-bats to start the year.

Red Sox | David Ortiz out of lineup

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 06:55:21 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is out of the lineup Monday, April 18, against a left-handed starter. 3B Josh Rutledge is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: It's Rutledge's first action of the season against lefty J.A. Happ. His splits the last three years are pretty identical. Rutledge has power, but he hasn't shown much at the major league level to warrant the DFS flyer.

Red Sox | Three Red Sox cut

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 08:44:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B/OF Allen Craig, 2B Josh Rutledge and OF Brennan Boesch were reassigned to minor league camp Monday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: All three are former fantasy diaper dandies that had AL-only consideration. Rutledge and Craig could still re-emerge into the fantasy landscape in another setting.

Red Sox | Boston veterans sitting vs. Yankees

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:41:32 -0700

Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz and 2B Dustin Pedroia are not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. 1B Allen Craig and 2B Josh Rutledge draw into the lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) are both nothing more than low-priced fliers at FantasyScore Thursday. Rutledge owns a lowly .354 slugging percentage this season, and Craig has a .131/.232/.190 slash line since joining Boston last year. Aim higher in daily contests Thursday.

Red Sox | David Ortiz out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 10:03:00 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen Saturday, Sept. 26. 2B Dustin Pedroia will bat second and serve as the designated hitter, with INF Josh Rutledge playing second base and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Ortiz ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) from your starting lineups. Pedroia ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is batting .486 in 35 career at-bats versus Chen and is hitting .358 with three home runs and eight RBIs this month, so he definitely deserves to be in your FantasyScore lineups. Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 5-for-17 during the month of September and is worth considering as a value option.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia receiving a breather

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 13:47:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22. 2B Josh Rutledge is starting at the keystone and is hitting second against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore.

Fantasy Tip: Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has hit well in his short time with Boston (.315/.375/.370) but has only a home run and seven RBI to show for it in 54 at-bats. He's in a solid lineup spot to return value in daily leagues and is facing a pitcher still trying to bounce back from Tommy John surgery. Rutledge could be a sneaky deep sleeper.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia sitting vs. Jays

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 12:13:44 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 18. 2B Josh Rutledge is starting at second base and batting eighth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Pedroia ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has a hit in each of his six games since returning from injury, including a two-bomb showing in his last start Wednesday, Sept. 16. He stands to finish the season strong for Boston and fantasy owners. Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has held his own with a .314/.377/.373 slash line over 62 plate appearances this season, but you shouldn't view him as anything more than a flier at FantasyScore Friday.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia sitting vs. Orioles

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 12:20:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia is not in the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 14. 2B Josh Rutledge is starting at second base and batting second against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Pedroia ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is 6-for-19 over his four games since returning from injury, and he stands to have a nice finish to the season. He should be owned in all fantasy leagues at this point. FantasyScore players should view Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) as a potential low-priced flier, but your expectations should be kept in check.

Red Sox | Josh Rutledge playing second base

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 10:47:47 -0700

Boston Red Sox INF Josh Rutledge will bat eighth and play second base against Philadelphia Phillies SP Alec Asher Saturday, Sept. 5. INF Brock Holt, who played the keystone position Friday, Sept. 4, will slide over to third base and bat second Saturday.

Fantasy Tip: Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is batting .325 with a home run and six RBIs through 40 at-bats and could be a decent value play in FantasyScore this afternoon. On the other hand, Holt ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is just 5-for-24 at the plate over the past seven days and should be avoided for now.

Red Sox | Brock Holt sitting out vs. White Sox

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:38:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25. 2B Josh Rutledge is starting at the keystone and batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Strangely, Holt ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) continues to draw out of the lineup in favor of Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap). The former is batting .300 in August with 10 runs and 11 RBI through 17 games. Rutledge, meanwhile, is hitting just .265, and he is nothing more than a low-priced flier at FantasyScore.
