Saunders is using a bigger bat to warm up with, but he's also using a bigger bat in games. "It's just a bigger head and a longer barrel," Saunders said. "It's feeling very comfortable. I'm seeing the ball well. Not only did I work hard on the physical side and the mechanical side, but I also worked hard on the mental side. Just bringing fire and passion to the game, expecting to do damage every time I come to the plate." He's gone 4-for-7 with a three-run home run, double and three walks in three intrasquad games.

He said some of his defensive woes in the minors were related to the shoulder injury, but he refuses to place all the blame on his injury. Catricala plans on shoring up his defense this spring as he competes with Kyle Seager, Chone Figgins, Alex Liddi, Francisco Martinez and Carlos Triunfel for the third base job. Catricala also dropped five pounds this winter and added some speed to his game.
