Lions | Marvin Jones' status in question

Fri, 09 Dec 2016 16:25:34 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (quadriceps) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 9, and is listed as questionable for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was targeted 11 times in the last game but finished the game with four receptions for 54 yards. He will still have a role in the passing game but there are other options that probably will receive more targets. Jones could be a flex option in deeper leagues but should be passed over in most leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones logs limited practice

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 14:20:35 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (quadriceps) was a limited participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jones missed a crucial game for fantasy owners this past weekend, but it appears he's trending towards a return in Week 14. Even so, it's hard to trust him right now, as while the Lions have surged the past couple of months, winning seven of their last eight, Jones has topped 55 yards only once over that stretch, and he hasn't scored since Week 6. It's tough to see him turning it back around while playing at less than 100 percent.

Lions | Limited practice for Marvin Jones

Wed, 07 Dec 2016 13:55:12 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (quadriceps) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was limited in practice last week too and ended up not playing, so don't start getting all positive about his status just yet. If Jones is sidelined again or limited at all then Golden Tate should be viewed as a WR1 versus the mediocre Chicago Bears pass defense.

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 08:58:23 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (thigh) will not play in Week 13's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will be sidelined despite participating in practice on a limited basis throughout the week. Golden Tate, Anquan Boldin, Eric Ebron and Theo Riddick should each see an increased number of targets versus New Orleans as a result.

Lions | Marvin Jones unlikely to play

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 07:37:07 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (thigh) is considered a long shot to play in Week 13's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was limited in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. If he is officially declared inactive, WRs Golden Tate and Anquan Boldin should see an increase in fantasy value, along with TE Eric Ebron and RB Theo Riddick.

Lions | Marvin Jones' status in question

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 16:43:03 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (thigh) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 2, and is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had a decent outing in Week 12 with 54 yards, but he has posted at least 55 yards in only one of his last seven games. Jones should have a favorable matchup in Week 13 and can be a No. 3 receiver in some fantasy leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones limited

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 14:20:08 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has been somewhat dormant since the first few weeks of the season, but facing the New Orleans Saints is a prime opportunity for a rebound. Most position players in this contest are startable, Jones included. View him as a WR3 with WR2 potential.

Lions | Marvin Jones limited Wednesday

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 13:17:05 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (thigh) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions' matchup with the New Orleans Saints is one of the most promising games of the week. Jones has been quiet since making himself known earlier in the year, but he should not be overlooked in what could be a high-scoring affair. If he's active, he should be started as a low-end WR2 or high-end WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones nearly invisible

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 17:55:25 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones posted just one catch for 15 yards on two targets in the Week 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Jones started off on fire, but he has been very quiet in recent weeks. He has plenty of potential, but right now is nothing more than a WR4 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Lions | Marvin Jones struggling

Sat, 19 Nov 2016 09:53:17 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has recorded at least 38 yards in only one of the last five games after a terrific start to the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had at least 74 yards in each of the first four games of the season but is coming off a five-yard performance in the last game. He will continue to have a role in the passing game, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better options and keep Jones on the bench.

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 15:53:24 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 4, and is not on the injury report for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has seen his numbers drop after a solid start to the season and has less than 40 yards receiving in three of his last four games. He will continue to have a solid role in the passing game and can be a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in all leagues.

Lions | Limited practice for Marvin Jones

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 19:08:36 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Jones faces a tough matchup against a Vikings defense which has had it on lockdown this season, ranking fourth in the NFL against the pass with only one pass play of 40 or more yards allowed. Jones should be used only as a WR3 in deeper fantasy leagues this week.

Lions | Marvin Jones limited at practice

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 14:34:38 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has regressed somewhat after taking the league by storm over the first few weeks of the season. He was targeted 36 times over the first four games of the season, but has only been targeted 23 times in his last four games. The Minnesota Vikings are a tough task, too. Jones is a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3 candidate, but expectations should be lowered.

Lions | Marvin Jones expected to play

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 15:56:28 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 28, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Jones bounced back in Week 7 after two disappointing performances and has caught two touchdowns in the last three games. He has become the team's top receiver and should be a fine No. 2 receiver for most fantasy owners.

Lions | Marvin Jones returns to practice

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 16:35:51 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (not injury related) returned to practice and got in a full session Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Jones scared owners a bit when he mysteriously was not present at practice on Wednesday, but not only did he return one day later, it turned out it wasn't even injury-related. Regardless, Jones has a solid opportunity to return his usual WR2 value this weekend opposite Houston. He's coming off a week that saw him produce his highest yardage total since Week 3.

Lions | Marvin Jones misses practice

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 15:34:53 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (personal) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Specifics of Jones' absence were not disclosed, but he doesn't seem to be injured. He hasn't produced as much in recent weeks with the emergence of Golden Tate, but he's a viable WR2 even in a less than favorable tilt with the Houston Texans.

Lions | Marvin Jones leads way in Week 7

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 17:42:22 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones posted four receptions for a team-high 94 yards on five targets in the Week 7 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was unable to find the end zone after scoring four touchdowns over his past four games, but his yardage total was his highest since his 205-yard outburst back in Week 3. He remains a decent WR3 in most fantasy formats heading into Week 8 in Houston.

Lions | Marvin Jones not bothered by recent fade

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 10:54:54 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones was the NFL's most productive receiver through four weeks, racking up 482 and two touchdowns on 23 catches. Over the last two weeks, however, he has totaled only 47 yards and two TDs on six receptions. "If somebody is doubling me, we have the players to really wreck shop. Defenses are going to play how they're going to play and you just adjust. We have great game plans that prepare us to adjust to anything. We're not missing a beat," Jones said.

Fantasy Tip: Jones' recent lack of production has coincided with the absence of Eric Ebron, which is allowing defenses to pay more attention to the Lions' top receiver as well. Things aren't about to get any easier for Jones, as he figures to square off plenty against Josh Norman, Xavier Rhodes (twice) and the Houston Texans' second-ranked pass defense in four of the next five games. He has earned Matthew Stafford's trust in the red zone, however, which should keep him in the WR2 conversation during this difficult stretch.

Lions | Marvin Jones held in check

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 20:45:09 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones posted two receptions for 10 yards in the Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was able to find the end zone on one of the catches. Jones was targeted six times.

Fantasy Tip: Jones exploded for 205 yards and a pair of scores in Week 3, but he has seen a decrease in his yardage totals in each of the past three games. He should be treated more as a WR3 in most fantasy formats until he starts to produce more consistency. At least he has touchdowns in each of the past two.

Lions | Marvin Jones scores again in win

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 17:30:48 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) posted four receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Jones didn't show any ill-effects of his foot injury, although his yardage total was a season low. He still has three touchdowns in the past three games and remains a solid low-end WR2 in most fantasy leagues. The Lions host the Rams in Week 6.

Lions | Marvin Jones will play in Week 5

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 09:02:57 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) is officially active for the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: Jones should see plenty of targets this week with Eric Ebron out of the lineup. He has posted terrific numbers this season and should continue to be a No. 2 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones expected to play

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 07:33:45 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) is expected to play in Week 5's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was listed as questionable on the injury report but was a full participant in practice Friday, Oct. 7. Although he is clearly Detroit's go-to receiver and has had an outstanding season thus far, he should be viewed as a WR2 this week against a Philadelphia defense that has not allowed a passing touchdown this year.

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 17:39:35 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Jones should be able to play this week even though he is listed as questionable. He will be facing a solid Philadelphia Eagles defense but can still be considered a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones limited at practice

Thu, 06 Oct 2016 16:44:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Considering he missed practice on Wednesday, this is actually an upgrade for Jones' Week 5 outlook. As long as he plays, he's worth deploying in fantasy lineups, as he's been Detroit's clear go-to No. 1 receiver in the early going. In addition, the former Cincinnati Bengal should benefit as well from tight end Eric Ebron (ankle, knee) most likely sitting out.

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 17:30:17 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones Jr. led his team's receivers with 74 yards on five catches in a 17-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had 205 yards at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers the week before, so he came back to earth. He will still have decent numbers from week to week, but beware they could fluctuate.

Sun, 02 Oct 2016 09:29:35 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) is officially active for the team's Week 4 game.

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) will play in Week 4's game against the Chicago Bears, despite tweaking a hamstring in practice Thursday, Sept. 28, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has emerged as Detroit's go-to receiver, with 18 receptions for 408 yards and two touchdowns through his first three games this year. He has a very favorable matchup against a shaky Chicago defense and should be viewed as a WR1 in all fantasy formats.

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 17:27:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Jones should be able to play in Week 4 and likely will receive a solid amount of targets. He should be a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in all fantasy leagues since it will be a favorable matchup.

Lions | Marvin Jones 'looked fine' Friday

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 10:03:14 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) participated in the team's open practice Friday, Sept. 30, and appears to be a full-go for Week 4 versus the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Jones gave owners a bit of a scare by showing up on the injury report Thursday, but it appears if the issue is a minor one at most. Coming off his six-catch, 205-yard, two-touchdown effort in Week 3, Jones is a no-brainer WR1 option against the Bears' beat-up defense.

Lions | Marvin Jones limited in practice Thursday

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 15:55:09 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Despite drawing the 'limited participant' tag, Jones should be fine to play in the team's Week 4 contest opposite the Chicago Bears. As long as he's healthy, the former Cincinnati Bengal can be leaned upon in a plus matchup, with him emerging as the decisive No. 1 wide-out in Detroit in the early going. Of course, though, owners should keep an eye on his status in the coming days.

Lions | Marvin Jones strong at WR

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 13:33:30 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones caught six passes for 205 yards and scored two touchdowns Sunday, Sept. 25, in a 34-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions are looking for some identity at wide receiver in the post-Calvin Johnson era, and it helps that receivers like Golden Tate, Anquan Boldin and Jones are coming forward. Jones should be in your fantasy lineup, but you never know who will be the leader from week to week.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 11:53:01 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones caught two passes for 111 yards and one touchdown in the first half of the team's Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Jones caught a 73-yard touchdown pass late in the first half and should continue to be a top target in the passing game. He should be a solid No. 1 or No. 2 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Lions | Marvin Jones leads the way

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:26:08 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones caught eight passes for 118 yards in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 18. No other Lions player caught more than four passes in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Jones continues to show chemistry with QB Matthew Stafford and warrants a start in all PPR formats at this point, especially versus the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. Detroit may need to sling it to keep the pace.

Lions | Marvin Jones fitting in nicely

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 12:18:52 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has had "terrific chemistry" with QB Matthew Stafford. He's averaging 16.2 yards per catch in the preseason, which is the sixth-most among all receivers who have had at least five catches through the first two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: With the Lions recently announcing that they'll mostly be in a no-huddle offense, Jones could end up being one of the biggest beneficiaries of this new strategy, which could make him one of the steals in fantasy at wide receiver. Jones has had success before in Cincinnati, and with Calvin Johnson no longer around for the Lions, it's very possible he could break out and enjoy a career year in 2016.

Lions | Detroit going no-huddle often

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 06:12:39 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and the other Lions quarterbacks have run a no-huddle offense 62% of the time this preseason. The Lions ran a no-huddle offense just 7% of the time last season. According to ProFootballFocus, Stafford has completed all six of his passes for 108 yards when targeting WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones out of the no-huddle. He's 6-for-11 passing for 63 yards on the rest of his throws combined. Overall, Stafford has completed 70.6% of his passes this preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford had a big second half last year with 19 touchdowns and two interceptions when offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter took over. He lost Megatron to retirement, but the show appears to roll on. Stafford is in the lower-middle portion of starting quarterbacks, but he could be on the cusp of that breakthrough year.

Lions | Marvin Jones proving his worth

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 20:04:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones finished with four catches for a game-high 65 yards in a 30-14 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Jones continues to thrive in his first year in Detroit, and he has enough upside to grab in the middle rounds as a WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones the top target

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 05:52:50 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has been the team's top receiver in camp, and it hasn't been close, as WR Golden Tate has had issues holding onto the football. Jones was targeted on seven of the 14 passes QB Matthew Stafford threw in the joint practice Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is coming off a 65-816-4 year with the Bengals, and he had 10 touchdowns the previous year. He looks like a WR3 with a ton of upside right now. Tate is a weaker WR2 in fantasy, but if he slips to the WR3 range, you're in business.

Lions | Marvin Jones to be under microscope

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:48:58 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones will be under the microscope during training camp and the preseason as the team sees how fluid he looks in a system that could reward his skill set.

Fantasy Tip: Jones certainly will not be able to replace the retired Calvin Johnson, but he will try to pair with Golden Tate and Eric Ebron to give the team a handful of reliable targets. Jones is worth a look as a WR3/4 or flex fantasy option in the middle to late rounds on draft day, as he could enjoy great success in Motown.

Lions | Marvin Jones a complete receiver

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 18:30:26 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones was used in a variety of ways by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015, catching all 19 of his targets on quick outs and screens, 21 of his 26 targets on comeback routes and eight of his nine targets from the slot.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will have a steady role in Detroit's passing attack, and you should feel comfortable drafting him as a WR3 in 2016.

Lions | Marvin Jones financials

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:05:09 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones' contract is five years in length and worth $40 million, according to a source. It includes $20 million in guarantees and $17 million guaranteed. Over three years, the deal is worth $27 million.

Fantasy Tip: Detroit's wide receiver corps will be completely different with Calvin Johnson retiring. Golden Tate will be the top target in the Lions' offense now, but Jones should have a better opportunity to succeed in Detroit's high-flying offense. For now, don't view him as more than a WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones contract update

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:32:53 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones' deal with the Lions is expected to be around $8 million per year. Jones chose the Lions over the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals. He caught 65 passes for 816 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Jones can't replace Calvin Johnson, who retired on Tuesday. However, he'll be a nice complement to Golden Tate in Jim Bob Cooter's offense and could be considered a WR3 for fantasy owners with some upside for more.

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 06:30:45 -0800

Free-agent WR Marvin Jones (Bengals) has agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, March 9, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is coming off of a 65-816-4 season and will help fill the void that Megatron's retirement has left. Jones will be a WR3 consideration with some upside with Golden Tate and Eric Ebron also lining up with him.

Bengals | Marvin Jones target of three teams

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:29:41 -0800

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones is of interest to the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: In what is a weaker wide receiver class, Jones will be one of the top wide receiver targets for prospective NFL teams during free agency. Depending on where he plays, he's probably more in WR3 territory.

Bengals | Marvin Jones, George Iloka priorities

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 10:07:38 -0800

The Cincinnati Bengals are intent on re-signing impending free-agent S George Iloka and WR Marvin Jones. The Bengals have roughly $15 million budgeted for free agents. The Minnesota Vikings are interested in Iloka, while the Cleveland Browns want Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had just 65 catches for 816 yards and four touchdowns with the Bengals in 2015. A move to Cleveland and an uncertain quarterback picture wouldn't do any favors for his fantasy value. Staying in Cincy would likely keep him as more of a WR4 or 5.

Lions | Detroit expected to pursue Marvin Jones

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 13:10:30 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones (Bengals) is expected to be one of the Detroit Lions' top targets when free agency begins.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is almost certainly going to land a huge contract as the best free-agent receiver available in a weak class. Calvin Johnson still has not cemented his retirement plans yet, but expect the Lions to prepare as though he will follow through. In Detroit, Jones would team with Golden Tate to give the Lions a serviceable, although unspectacular, set of receivers for Matthew Stafford. If Jones becomes a Lion, owners should view him as a low-end WR3.
