Lions | Marvin Jones cashes in only catch

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 20:49:31 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones had just one catch in Week 2 against the New York Giants on Monday, Sept. 18, but it was good for a 27-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was tied for the team high with five targets, but he and Matthew Stafford were unable to connect. He'll look for more receptions in Week 3 against the visiting Falcons. He remains more of a WR4 or WR5 in most fantasy leagues at this point.

Lions | Marvin Jones gets into end zone

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 16:36:18 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones posted two grabs for 37 yards and a touchdown on two targets in Week 1 against the Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is behind Golden Tate on the depth chart, and he appeared to be behind rookie Kenny Golladay, too, especially late in the game. That's not good for the fantasy appeal of Jones going forward.

Lions | Marvin Jones plays well

Fri, 25 Aug 2017 19:05:25 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones caught four passes for 62 yards and a touchdown against the New England Patriots in the preseason Friday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ran hot and cold in his first season with Detroit but still topped 900 yards. His second year with Matthew Stafford could lead to steadier production, and Jones deserves to be in the WR3 conversation.

Lions | Marvin Jones shines in red zone

Sat, 05 Aug 2017 21:21:20 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has emerged as one of the QB Matthew Stafford's favorite targets in the red zone, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Fantasy Tip: Jones started with a bang but tailed off in his first season with the Lions, but he still finished with 930 yards. WR3 production isn't out of the question in 2017, especially if Stafford is looking his way around the goal line.

Lions | Marvin Jones draws praise from head coach

Sat, 24 Jun 2017 15:51:57 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones focused on strengthening his lower body to improve his explosiveness and also spent time working out with former NFL receiver Randy Moss. "I think Marvin started out (last) season extremely well. He's been doing even better this spring. He's had one of those springs that you kind of look to. This guy is right there on the verge of maintaining that kind of explosive start that he had last year. He's really, really had a real good spring," head coach Jim Caldwell said.

Fantasy Tip: Jones still has some breakout potential in him following the departure of Anquan Boldin, but Eric Ebron would seem to be the first in line to benefit since he runs more routes closer to the line of scrimmage. Rookie Kenny Golladay has also impressed so far. If Jones can improve in the short passing game - he focused on route-running with Moss - perhaps he can move into the WR3 discussion.

Lions | Marvin Jones improving this offseason

Mon, 19 Jun 2017 14:22:46 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones focused on strengthening his lower body to improve his explosiveness this offseason. He worked out with former NFL WR Randy Moss to help him in that endeavor and to improve his yards after the catch. Head coach Jim Caldwell praised Jones for the offseason he has put together so far. "This guy is right there on the verge of maintaining that kind of explosive start that he had last year," Caldwell said. "He's really, really had a real good spring."

Fantasy Tip: Jones has been overlooked somewhat since that fast start last season. He remains the Lions' No. 2 wide receiver behind Golden Tate, but T.J. Jones and rookie Kenny Golladay are asking to take targets away. That being said, Jones is a solid low-end WR3 to high-end WR4 option after nearly gaining 1,000 yards and four scores in 2016.

Lions | Marvin Jones more comfortable

Sat, 27 May 2017 18:51:59 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones said he is a lot more comfortable with offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter's system entering this season after struggling to master the offense last year.

Fantasy Tip: Jones cooled off after a scorching start to last season, but he still flirted with 1,000 yards. He enters 2017 as Detroit No. 2 receiver, and Jones is worth drafting as a low-end WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones unhappy with season

Tue, 10 Jan 2017 19:22:31 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones was disappointed with how his season turned out, admitting, "In terms of my standards, it wasn't good at all." He added, "When you look at how I started, you wouldn't think it would end this way."

Fantasy Tip: He has a point, as through the first four weeks of the campaign, Jones was second to only Julio Jones for most receiving yards in the league. However, the former Cincinnati Bengal should also take away positives from this year, as he did manage to record a career-high 930 yards to go with 55 catches and four touchdowns in 15 games. Jones has the potential to be a fine WR3 option next season.

Lions | Coverages hurting Marvin Jones

Sat, 31 Dec 2016 17:15:26 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones had 408 receiving yards in the first three games but just 446 yards over the last 11 games, and Jones said double-coverage and an offense designed to spread the ball around has resulted in his lack of production.

Fantasy Tip: There is no denying that Jones has been slumping for a while, but he could be worth taking a chance on against Green Bay in Week 17. The first time he faced the Packers, he finished with 205 yards and two scores.
