Lions | Marvin Jones proving his worth

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 20:04:02 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones finished with four catches for a game-high 65 yards in a 30-14 preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Jones continues to thrive in his first year in Detroit, and he has enough upside to grab in the middle rounds as a WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones the top target

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 05:52:50 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones has been the team's top receiver in camp, and it hasn't been close, as WR Golden Tate has had issues holding onto the football. Jones was targeted on seven of the 14 passes QB Matthew Stafford threw in the joint practice Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is coming off a 65-816-4 year with the Bengals, and he had 10 touchdowns the previous year. He looks like a WR3 with a ton of upside right now. Tate is a weaker WR2 in fantasy, but if he slips to the WR3 range, you're in business.

Lions | Marvin Jones to be under microscope

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:48:58 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones will be under the microscope during training camp and the preseason as the team sees how fluid he looks in a system that could reward his skill set.

Fantasy Tip: Jones certainly will not be able to replace the retired Calvin Johnson, but he will try to pair with Golden Tate and Eric Ebron to give the team a handful of reliable targets. Jones is worth a look as a WR3/4 or flex fantasy option in the middle to late rounds on draft day, as he could enjoy great success in Motown.

Lions | Marvin Jones a complete receiver

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 18:30:26 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones was used in a variety of ways by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015, catching all 19 of his targets on quick outs and screens, 21 of his 26 targets on comeback routes and eight of his nine targets from the slot.

Fantasy Tip: Jones will have a steady role in Detroit's passing attack, and you should feel comfortable drafting him as a WR3 in 2016.

Lions | Marvin Jones financials

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:05:09 -0800

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones' contract is five years in length and worth $40 million, according to a source. It includes $20 million in guarantees and $17 million guaranteed. Over three years, the deal is worth $27 million.

Fantasy Tip: Detroit's wide receiver corps will be completely different with Calvin Johnson retiring. Golden Tate will be the top target in the Lions' offense now, but Jones should have a better opportunity to succeed in Detroit's high-flying offense. For now, don't view him as more than a WR3.

Lions | Marvin Jones contract update

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:32:53 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones' deal with the Lions is expected to be around $8 million per year. Jones chose the Lions over the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals. He caught 65 passes for 816 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Jones can't replace Calvin Johnson, who retired on Tuesday. However, he'll be a nice complement to Golden Tate in Jim Bob Cooter's offense and could be considered a WR3 for fantasy owners with some upside for more.

Free-agent WR Marvin Jones (Bengals) has agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, March 9, according to sources.

Bengals | Marvin Jones target of three teams

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:29:41 -0800

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones is of interest to the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: In what is a weaker wide receiver class, Jones will be one of the top wide receiver targets for prospective NFL teams during free agency. Depending on where he plays, he's probably more in WR3 territory.

Bengals | Marvin Jones, George Iloka priorities

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 10:07:38 -0800

The Cincinnati Bengals are intent on re-signing impending free-agent S George Iloka and WR Marvin Jones. The Bengals have roughly $15 million budgeted for free agents. The Minnesota Vikings are interested in Iloka, while the Cleveland Browns want Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Jones had just 65 catches for 816 yards and four touchdowns with the Bengals in 2015. A move to Cleveland and an uncertain quarterback picture wouldn't do any favors for his fantasy value. Staying in Cincy would likely keep him as more of a WR4 or 5.

Lions | Detroit expected to pursue Marvin Jones

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 13:10:30 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Marvin Jones (Bengals) is expected to be one of the Detroit Lions' top targets when free agency begins.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is almost certainly going to land a huge contract as the best free-agent receiver available in a weak class. Calvin Johnson still has not cemented his retirement plans yet, but expect the Lions to prepare as though he will follow through. In Detroit, Jones would team with Golden Tate to give the Lions a serviceable, although unspectacular, set of receivers for Matthew Stafford. If Jones becomes a Lion, owners should view him as a low-end WR3.
